Louis Adam

Louis Adam (December 3, 1758 – April 8, 1848) was a French composer, music teacher, and piano virtuoso. His son, Adolphe Adam, was the composer of the score for the ballet Giselle.

Life and career

Born in Muttersholtz, Alsace, Adam went to Paris in 1775. He spent over four decades, from 1797 through 1842, as Professor of Pianoforte at the Conservatoire de Paris, and died in the city, aged 89. As professor, he was the teacher of a number of notable students, including Joseph Daussoigne-Méhul, Friedrich Kalkbrenner, Ferdinand Hérold, and Henry Lemoine. In addition to being a skilled pianist, he composed a number of piano pieces that were in vogue at the time, especially some variations on Le bon roi Dagobert. He also wrote two standard instruction books for piano: Mithode ou principe générale du doigté pour le Forté-piano (1798) and Méthode nouvelle pour le Piano (1802). In 1804 he published an influential work: Méthode de piano du Conservatoire, which contributed to the advancement of piano technique in Paris.

Adam

Adam (Hebrew: אָדָם‎; Aramaic/Syriac: ܐܕܡ; Arabic: آدم‎) is a figure from the Book of Genesis who is also mentioned in the New Testament, the deuterocanonical books, the Quran, the Book of Mormon, and the Book of Iqan. According to the creation myth of the Abrahamic religions, he was the first human.

In the Genesis creation narratives, he was created by Yahweh-Elohim ("Yahweh-God", the god of Israel), though the term "adam" can refer to both the first individual person, as well as to the general creation of humankind. Christian churches differ on how they view Adam's subsequent behavior of disobeying God (often called the Fall of man), and to the consequences that those actions had on the rest of humanity. Christian and Jewish teachings sometimes hold Adam and Eve (the first woman) to a different level of responsibility for the Fall, though Islamic teaching holds both equally responsible. In addition, Islam holds that Adam was eventually forgiven, while Christianity holds that redemption occurred only later through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The Bahá'í Faith, Islam and some Christian denominations consider Adam to be the first prophet.

Adam Young

Adam Randal Young (born July 5, 1986) is an American singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, best known for creating the electronica project Owl City.

Owl City, created in 2007, has enjoyed significant popularity since its inception. Posting songs to MySpace and iTunes, Young sold 2,000 tracks per week. Young, under Owl City, independently released Of June in 2007 and Maybe I'm Dreaming in 2008. In 2009, Young gained mainstream popularity after signing a deal with the record company Universal Republic and releasing the quadruple-platinum song "Fireflies", from the album Ocean Eyes.

Young began his musical career by creating small musical projects, promoted by himself on PureVolume and MySpace. In 2002 Young co-founded Windsor Airlift with Anthony and Andy Johnson, which has released five studio albums to date.

Young also has other musical projects including Port Blue and Sky Sailing. He is also a co-founder of Swimming With Dolphins. Young is currently working on a monthly orchestral composition project called Adam Young Scores.
