GSK has an established global Regenerative Medicine Discovery Performance Unit in R&D; which drives the discovery and development of regenerative medicines inside and outside GSK, including partnerships with The Harvard Stem Cell Institute (stem cell-based assays for drug discovery), and Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (stem cell gene therapy for rare genetic diseases). Progress in these alliances will be presented together with the discovery and development of the approved GSK drug, Promacta, a small molecule activator of endogenous progenitor cells, as an example of new regenerative medicines.
