NeuroStar TMS Therapy - Chapter - The Unmet Need of Depression
Each year, over 14 million U.S. adults experience Major Depression. Four million of those sufferers are poorly served, due to either inadequate response or intolerance to the side-effects associated with drug therapy. The STAR*D trial, the largest and longest study ever conducted to evaluate depression medications, demonstrates that as patients move through medication trials: ...the likelihood of achieving remission is limited and declines with each subsequent treatment. ...discontinuation rates due to side effects rise very rapidly.
