Christopher Mark Sievey (25 August 1955 – 21 June 2010) was an English musician and comedian known for fronting the band The Freshies in the late 1970s and early 1980s and for his comic persona Frank Sidebottom from 1984 onwards.
Sievey, under the guise of Sidebottom, made regular appearances on North West television throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, even becoming a reporter for Granada Reports. More recently he had presented Frank Sidebottom's Proper Telly Show in B/W for the Manchester-based television station Channel M. Throughout his career, Sidebottom made appearances on radio stations such as Manchester's Piccadilly Radio and on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 5, alongside Mark and Lard.
Sievey grew up in Ashton-on-Mersey, Sale, Cheshire (five miles from Timperley, the town with which Frank Sidebottom would be associated). In 1971 he decided on a career in music and hitch-hiked to London with his brother, staging a sit-in at the Apple Records HQ, demanding to see one of The Beatles. When they were asked to leave they insisted on recording something, and were booked into the studio after playing a song to head of A&R Tony King. Sievey subsequently recorded several demos, which he sent to record companies, receiving many rejection letters which he later compiled into a book. Unable to get a deal, he set up his own Razz label in 1974.
Chris is a short form of various names including Christopher, Christian, Christina, Christine, and Christos. Unlike these names, however, it does not indicate the person's gender although it is much more common for males to have this name than it is for females.
It is the preferred form of the full name of such notable individuals as Chris Tucker and Chris Penn. To find an article about one of these people, see List of all pages beginning with "Chris".
The word is also part of phrases, including Tropical Storm Chris, Ruth's Chris Steak House, and many more which refer to notable people, places, and things. For a list of these, see All pages with titles containing chris.

The Freshies were a punk band from Manchester, England formed in the 1970s and dissolved in the early 1980s, fronted by singer and comedian Chris Sievey (later known by his character Frank Sidebottom).
The ZX Spectrum (UK /zɛd ɛks ˈspɛktrəm/) is an 8-bit personal home computer released in the United Kingdom in 1982 by Sinclair Research Ltd.
Referred to during development as the ZX81 Colour and ZX82, the machine was launched as the ZX Spectrum by Sinclair to highlight the machine's colour display, compared with the black and white of its predecessor, the ZX81. The Spectrum was ultimately released as eight different models, ranging from the entry level model with 16 KB RAM released in 1982 to the ZX Spectrum +3 with 128 KB RAM and built in floppy disk drive in 1987; together they sold in excess of 5 million units worldwide (not counting numerous clones).
The Spectrum was among the first mainstream-audience home computers in the UK, similar in significance to the Commodore 64 in the USA. The introduction of the ZX Spectrum led to a boom in companies producing software and hardware for the machine, the effects of which are still seen; some credit it as the machine which launched the UK IT industry. Licensing deals and clones followed, and earned Clive Sinclair a knighthood for "services to British industry".

In 1983, Chris Sievey (soon to find fame as Frank Sidebottom, and formerly of The Freshies) released a 7" single on his own Random Records label. The A-side was the song 'Camouflage'. Chris had recently started programming on the Sinclair ZX81 home computer, as so many of us did at the time, and included three of his programs on Side-B of the 7", as audio data recordings - exactly as they would sound when saved onto a cassette for storage. Two of the programs were versions of a game called Flying Train, for the 1K and 16K machine respectively. (Note: contrary to what's been written several times on the internet recently, the ZX Spectrum version of FT was never pressed onto vinyl. Sievey distributed this on cassette, probably for the reasons explained below, and would chuck in a copy...
7" single If You Really Love Me ...Buy Me A Shirt / I Am The Walrus (CV Songs) 1982 written by Chris Sievey The Freshies : Chris Sievey (vocals, guitar) Barry Spencer (guitar) Rick Sarko (bass) Mike Dougherty (drums)
Rare interview/informal chat between Frank Sidebottom & Chris Sievey (lead singer of The Freshies), taken from the fantastic ZX Spectrum game, 'The Biz', which was designed, written and programmed by Chris Sievey himself! The game has got it all and tells it like it is! Also included on the cassette, are music tracks, so it also acted as an album as well as a game! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!!

Here is some unseen video from the Frank Sidebottom Statue unveiling 20th October 2013 This is more behind what happened and shows the day before, and the actual installation of the statue. Also what the crowds gather from a few people at 10.37 and boom at 11.37 thousands, causing road blocks in Timperley. This video was shot by a dear friend who sadly passed away June 2015 and I was fortunate enough to given this video to share. RIP Graham Cliff who did this filming.
This is a one hour movie that I edited together from my own footage of Frank Sidebottom, with some of it filmed by my wife, and some extra clips from super-fan Martin's collection. You will see bits from the "Magical Timperley Tour" and footage from Frank Sidebottom concerts at the Timperley Labour Club (or Grange Sports and Social Club) and the LMRCA club at Navigation Station. I put this together for the Frank Sidebottom Celebration Evening a few years ago, and it was SO difficult trying to edit it down to just an hour as there are such a lot of great Frank Sidebottom moments from those shows. Anyway, hopefully you will find these scenes amusing, entertaining, ace and top. I have also uploaded several of the clips used here as separate files as I understand not everyone has a full hour...
