Plot
Based on the true story about the famous murderers, 'Burke And Hare' follows the hapless exploits of these two men as they fall into the highly profitable business of providing cadavers for the medical fraternity in Nineteenth Century Edinburgh, then the centre of medical learning. The one thing they were short of was bodies.

An accident or a - or a natural disaster. Something which generates the large numbers of cadavers I need for my work.::Patterson: Wouldn't that be nice sir?

Plot
Scotland 1865. An old shepherd and his little Skye terrier go to Edinburgh. But when the shepherd dies of pneumonia, the dog remains faithful to his master, refuses to be adopted by anyone, and takes to sleeping on his master's grave in the Greyfriars kirkyard, despite a caretaker with a "no dogs" rule. And when Bobby is taken up for being unlicensed, it's up to the children of Edinburgh and the Lord Provost to decide what's to be done.

Plot
In 1860 Ediburgh, sheep herder Jock Gray finds a Collie puppy on the loose. When she is unclaimed, he takes her as his own and calls her Lassie. They are soon inseparable but when Jock dies and is buried in an unmarked grave, Lassie takes to sleeping in the churchyard to be near him. Jock's good friend John Traill is prepared to find a good home for Lassie but no matter how hard he tries, she always manages to get away and despite any obstacles put in her way, manages to get back to Jock's grave. It all comes to a head when a local magistrate orders her destroyed for not having a license leading Traill to take his case to a higher court.

A Lord Provost is the figurative and ceremonial head of one of the principal cities of Scotland. Four cities, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow, have the right to appoint a Lord Provost instead of a provost (mayor). The Lord Provosts of Edinburgh and Glasgow enjoy the style of "The Right Honourable" before their names.
A Lord Provost has a higher status than Lord Mayor in other parts of the United Kingdom. He is ex officio the Lord Lieutenant for that city, in accordance with section 1 of the Lieutenancies Act 1997 - allowing the city council to choose its own representative from the Queen.
Permission to use the title 'Lord Provost" is granted to a city by The Queen under the Royal Prerogative, acting on the advice of Government Ministers.

The Right Honourable Lord Provost of Glasgow is the convener of the Glasgow City Council. They are elected by the city councillors and serve not only as the chair of that body, but as a figurehead for the entire city. They are equivalent in many ways to the institution of Mayor that exists in many other countries.
The Lord Provost of the City of Glasgow, by virtue of office, is also:
Each of the 32 Scottish local authorities elects a provost, but it is only the four main cities, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Dundee that have a Lord Provost, who also serves as the Lord Lieutenant for the city. This is enshrined in the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994.
The current Lord Provost, elected to the position in 2012, is Sadie Docherty.
The Mediaeval burgh of Glasgow was administered on behalf of the Bishops of Glasgow by officials known as Bailies' or Provosts'. The office of Provost as a single chief magistrate was not created until the early 1450s.

Robert 'Bob' Winter (born 1937 in Maryhill, Glasgow, Scotland) is the Lord Provost of Glasgow. He was first elected a Labour councillor on Glasgow City Council in 1999, serving the Summerston ward. In 2007, he was re-elected as one of four councillors for Ward 15, which includes Maryhill and the Kelvin area of Glasgow's West End. Following his re-election, he was nominated as Lord Provost by fellow councillors on Glasgow's ruling Labour group.
From 1996 to 2003, he served as a trustee of Greater Glasgow Primary Care NHS Trust. He was Member of the General Medical Council from 1996 to 2003, and an Associate Member from 2003. He has been Chairman of the Risk Management Authority since 2004.
Winter was previously director of social work at Strathclyde Regional Council.
He is a former pupil of Allan Glen's school and an alumnus of Glasgow and Strathclyde universities.
