"Age" means "deep fried" and "Dashi" means "broth". Thus: deep fried Tofu steeped in Dashi-based sauce. I think most Japanese restaurants overseas have it on their menu, and it is the most ordered dish than in Japan! hehe --------------------------------- Agedashi Tofu (Deep Fried Tofu with Dashi Based Sauce) Difficulty: Easy Time: 15min Number of servings: 2-3 Ingredients: 1 (350g=12.5oz) Momen-Dōfu (cotton Tofu / firm Tofu) Katakuriko (potato starch) *corn starch or regular flour is ok vegetable oil for deep frying Dashi Sauce * 150ml Dashi broth (you can use Dashi powder to make it) * 3 tbsp. soy sauce * 3 tbsp. Mirin (sweet Sake) Toppings * Daikon Oroshi (grated Daikon radish) * grated ginger * chopped green onion Directions: 1. Cut Tofu into 6 pieces. Drain on a strainer for 5 minutes. Then you can also remove excess water with paper towel if necessary. 2. Heat the vegetable oil for deep frying to 170-180C (340-350F). 3. Coat Tofu with Katakuriko (potato starch). Drop into the oil immediately after coating. Deep fry until puffed and lightly golden (about 2 min). Then drain well. 4. Bring Dashi Sauce to a boil. 5. Place the Tofu in a serving bowl, garnish with some toppings of your choice: Daikon Oroshi, chopped green onion, and grated ginger, then pour the Dashi Sauce over it. Plot
Vegetarians are disappearing from the little town of Bisbee, AZ. When a group of locals discover that their secret hallucinatory cactus garden has been used as a human barbecue and burial site, the existence of the Bisbee Cannibal Club becomes horrifyingly apparent. They form a vigilante gang, calling themselves "The Bisbee Cannibal Hunters, " to avenge their garden.

Plot
The New Women is a post-apocalyptic adventure about Lisa LaStrada (Mary Woronov) and her small town group of women friends who clearly haven't come a long way, baby. Lisa spends her nights pining over the infidelities of her philandering sheriff husband who is having an affair with her nemesis, Virginia Van Upp (Roma Maffia). A recovering alcoholic, Lisa falls off the wagon and tries in vain to drown her sorrows in booze, drugs and RV fantasies until one day, at a local barbeque, along comes a huge rainstorm that quite literally puts everyone in the entire world to sleep. In a couple of days, slowly but surely, all of the women wake up to a world that has come to a complete standstill. Well, not a complete standstill, their men remain fast asleep in comas, getting erections every forty-five minutes. There was definitely something in that rain! Now Lisa and her friends struggle to rebuild their world (and face their issues of low self-esteem) until they realize by degrees, as their men start dying and food starts to run out, that there's no hope for survival in isolated Lacuna. So they hit the road following a shaky radio signal to find a new model of society made by women for women called Elysium. But the brave new world has way more out there than they bargained for. Will the new-age hippy chicks and angry, jilted lady bikers they cross on the winding path to Elysium stand in our heroines' way of true happiness? Or is Elysium, too, just another impossible dream?

Agedashi Tofu or Agedashi Dofu is a very popular traditional Japanese appetizer dish.
"Age" means "deep fried" and "Dashi" means "broth". Thus: deep fried Tofu steeped in Dashi-based sauce.
I think most Japanese restaurants overseas have it on their menu, and it is the most ordered dish than in Japan! hehe

Agedashi Tofu (Deep Fried Tofu with Dashi Based Sauce)
Difficulty: Easy
Time: 15min
Number of servings: 2-3
Ingredients:
1 (350g=12.5oz) Momen-Dōfu (cotton Tofu / firm Tofu)
Katakuriko (potato starch) *corn starch or regular flour is ok
vegetable oil for deep frying
Dashi Sauce
* 150ml Dashi broth (you can use Dashi powder to make it)
* 3 tbsp. soy sauce
* 3 tbsp. Mirin (sweet Sake)
Toppings
* Daikon Oroshi (grated Daikon radish)
* grated ginger
* chopped green onion
Directions:
1. Cut Tofu into 6 pieces. Drain on a strainer for 5 minutes. Then you can also remove excess water with paper towel if necessary.
2. Heat the vegetable oil for deep frying to 170-180C (340-350F).
3. Coat Tofu with Katakuriko (potato starch). Drop into the oil immediately after coating. Deep fry until puffed and lightly golden (about 2 min). Then drain well.
4. Bring Dashi Sauce to a boil.
5. Place the Tofu in a serving bowl, garnish with some toppings of your choice: Daikon Oroshi, chopped green onion, and grated ginger, then pour the Dashi Sauce over it.
You can of course use "Kinugoshidofu (silken Tofu)" but remember it is very soft and fragile.

Tofu, also called bean curd, is a food made by coagulating soy milk and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks. It is a component in many East Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines. There are many different varieties of tofu, including fresh tofu and tofu that has been processed in some way. Tofu has a subtle flavor and can be used in savory and sweet dishes. It is often seasoned or marinated to suit the dish.
Tofu originated in ancient China. Chinese legend ascribes its invention to prince Liu An (Chinese: 劉安 Liú Ān, 179–122 BC). Tofu and its production technique were introduced into Korea and then Japan during the Nara period. It also spread into other parts of East Asia as well. This spread likely coincided with the spread of Buddhism because it is an important source of protein in the vegetarian diet of East Asian Buddhism.Li Shizhen in the Ming Dynasty described a method of making tofu in Bencao Gangmu.
Tofu has a low calorie count, relatively large amounts of protein, and little fat. It is high in iron and, depending on the coagulant used in manufacturing, may also be high in calcium and/or magnesium.
