Background Story:
The year is
1982, there is an ongoing
Cold War and
Ronald Reagan is the
President.
Inflation continues to climb skyward.
Productivity growth is small, when not negative.
Times are hard with unemployment rates peaking at
10.8%
. Art Buchwald quipped that
1980 would go down in history as the year when it was cheaper to borrow money from the Mafia than the local bank.
Aladena Fratianno aka "
Jimmy the
Weasel",
FBI Informer.
A man in his early seventies. At a first glance he gives a feeling of being in control. He has a relaxed manner but behind that constant smirk on his face you can trace the beast in his black eyes.
He has strong narcissistic and eccentric personal traits. He likes to dress sharp and being noticed. He cares much about his appearance "the way they care about looks in
Las Vegas and
Atlantic City". His dyed hair is combed up in a pompadour, but when he turns his head, streaks of gray are visible on his sides and on the back of his neck. He feels naked without his
Cuban cigar which he constantly keep in his hand or stuck between his teeth.
He enjoys being the center of attention and gets a kick out of all the publicity he gets from telling his stories. He is a cold blooded killer which puts him apart from regular people. He has killed and gotten away with it. A great feeling which makes him feel special.

Becoming an Informer:
In combination with an indictment in
1977 on charges related to the car-bombing murder of a
Cleveland racketeer, Fratianno learned that
Dominic Brooklier of the
Los Angeles crime family had put a "commission contract" out on his life. During the trail prosecutors confronts him with a variety of potential charges. Fratianno strikes a deal to join the witness protection program (
WITSEC) and to serve the
Justice Department as a witness against organized crime. At the trail he pleads guilty to the charges and serves 21 months (of his five-year sentence) in prison before traveling the country as a prosecution witness.
In 1980, Fratianno testified in
Los Angeles at a trial that led to the racketeering convictions of five reputed Mafia figures. Among the charged were the mob bosses,
Frank "
Funzi"
Tieri,
Carmine "Junior" Persico and the head of his own former crime family, Dominic Brooklier.
As a paid informant Fratianno is protected by the federal witness protection program, which provides him with bodyguards, financial support and a series of phony identities
