Every year there are more than one billion passenger journeys through our 17 managed stations. And in 2012-13 saw over 1,600 slips and trips in our stations and 1 fatality.
One area where we see a large number of accidents is on escalators. More commonly on the up escalators, and often because people are rushing or carrying heavy luggage. Watch the video to see what can happen.

Network Rail is the trade name used by Network Rail Ltd (company number 04402220 registered in England and Wales) and its various subsidiary companies. The most prominent public presence is in the form of its subsidiary Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd (company number 02904587 registered in England and Wales) which was previously named Railtrack plc.
Network Rail Ltd is a "not for dividend" private company limited by guarantee and any profits it generates are reinvested back into the rail network. Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd was reported in the 2010 annual company report as 100%-owned by Network Rail Ltd. As a company limited by guarantee, Network Rail Ltd has no shareholders and thus is not owned by anyone. It is however subject to various statutory requirements and liable (as happened with the pre-privatisation Trustee Savings Bank) to any future legislation taking it into government ownership.
Network Rail Infrastructure Ltd is owner and operator of most of the rail infrastructure in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales). It is not responsible for railway infrastructure in Northern Ireland or for the majority of track used by London Underground.
