Rand Paul on ABC's This Week
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) fired back Sunday against accusations that he plagiarized portions of his speeches from Wikipedia articles, musing "if dueling were legal in Kentucky" he could "challenge" the charges. Last week, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow pointed out that parts of a speech Paul gave in support of Ken Cuccinelli, the Republican candidate for Virginia governor, had been lifted from the Wikipedia page for the film "Gattaca." BuzzFeed also found that another set of Paul remarks had borrowed from the Wikipedia entry for "Stand and Deliver." In an appearance on ABC's "This Week," Paul dismissed the claims. "Yes, there are times when [speeches] have been sloppy or not correct or we've made an error," Paul said. "But the difference is, I take it as an insult and I will not lie down and say people can call me dishonest, misleading or misrepresenting. I have never intentionally done so." He continued, "And like I say, if, you know, if dueling were legal in Kentucky, if they keep it up, you know, it would be a duel challenge. But I can't do that, because I can't hold office in Kentucky then." Paul initially addressed the claims last week, admitting that he "borrowed" from the films in question but insisting that he "gave credit." "The rest of it's making a mountain out of a molehill from people I think basically who are political enemies and have an ax to grind," Paul said in an interview with Fusion. "This is really about information and attacks coming from haters. The person who's leading this attack -- she's been spreading hate on me for about three years now."- published: 03 Nov 2013

The Most Absurd Attack On Rand Paul Comes From A Fellow Republican
"Appearing on Fox News Channel on Sunday, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) defended the National Security Agency from attacks on its intelligence gathering practices. He specifically said the charges made against the NSA by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) are "lies" and that he "doesn't deserve to be a U.S. Senator." "Rand Paul does not know what he's talking about," King said after being asked to respond to Paul's comments about the NSA...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more here from Noah Rothman / Mediaite: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/peter-king-rand-paul-lies-about-nsa-doesnt-deserve-to-be-in-the-united-states-senate/ Download audio and video of the full two hour show on-demand + the members-only post game show by becoming a member at http://www.tytnetwork.com/member-options/. Rand Paul on Obama's NSA Reform: "The Same Unconstitutional Program with a New Configuration" Look for much more coverage of Obama's NSA speech this morning as the day rolls on here at Hit and Run, but Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul's reaction is worth a quick note, via a press release: "While I am encouraged the President is addressing the NSA spying program because of pressure from Congress and the American people, I am disappointed in the details. The Fourth Amendment requires an individualized warrant based on probable cause before the government can search phone records and e-mails. President Obama's announced solution to the NSA spying controversy is the same unconstitutional program with a new configuration," Sen. Paul said. "I intend to continue the fight to restore Americans rights through my Fourth Amendment Restoration Act and my legal challenge against the NSA. The American people should not expect the fox to guard the hen house."- published: 17 Jan 2014

Rand Paul: Obama Poured $1 Trillion Into Economy With His Stimulus Bill But It Didn't Create Jobs
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) went to Detroit this past week to open the first of several Republican outreach centers in inner cities. Sen. Paul discussed his plan for the bankrupt city -- but can he get voters on board? Paul's plan for economic "freedom zones" in depressed areas includes: setting a flat individual and corporate tax rate of five percent, giving parents more school choice and education credits, and loosening visa rules to encourage foreign entrepreneurs. Today on Fox News Sunday, host Chris Wallace noted that critics say more money needs to be poured into inner cities in order to make a difference. Paul countered, "Well, Chris, it hadn't worked. The president poured a trillion dollars into the nation's economy, and when you divided it out it was about $400,000 dollars per job. The problem with a government stimulus is you pick the winners and losers." The senator said his "free market stimulus" would leave the money in the hands of those who earned it. Therefore, customers choose the people who are going to be successful. The unemployment rate among African Americans is 12 percent, over four percent above the national average. In his weekly address, President Obama criticized Republicans for refusing to extend unemployment benefits. Paul argued, "I do support unemployment benefits for the 26 weeks that they're paid for. If you extend it beyond that you do a disservice to these workers. [...] When you allow people to be on unemployment for 99 weeks, you're causing them to become part of the perpetual unemployed group in our economy." In November 2012, 97 percent of Detroit voters supported President Obama for re-election over Mitt Romney. When asked how he'd convince African American voters in Detroit that his plan works for them, Paul answered, "My economic stimulus plan for Detroit would leave over a billion dollars in Detroit's economy and would stimulate Detroit. [...] There's not going to be some grand bailout that's going to go through Congress." He added, "I'm also talking about voting rights, I'm talking about school choice. I think there's a lot to offer in the Republican message that hasn't been offered in the past." Looking ahead to the 2016 presidential election, Paul revealed this week that his wife Kelley is strongly opposed to him running. The senator told Wallace he's "seriously" thinking about running for president, but is also taking into serious consideration the toll it could have on his family. "There are great things to be part of -- the debate over the Fourth Amendment and the Constitution. I love that stuff, but I also hate it when family is attacked."- published: 08 Dec 2013

Rand Paul: ObamaCare Isn't Fixable And Most "Fixes" Coming From The Executive Are Unconstitutional
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was in tonight's "Center Seat" on Special Report. He told the All Star Panel that ObamaCare isn't fixable. The senator believes President Obama's health care law fixes are unconstitutional because it's the legislative branch that's supposed to vote on making amendments to a law. That being said, he admitted that the old system wasn't real capitalism and didn't work well. To make it better, the senator said there needs to be more competition. "I think we went the wrong way. [Obama] narrowed the marketplace." One way to do that is by expanding on the health savings accounts. The tax free accounts, Paul explained, would allow people to use the money left over from their health care costs on other things like college tuition. "Under our system, you'd have higher deductibles but lower premiums. But you'd have more freedom as to how to spend your money." Charles Krauthammer asked Paul if he believes the GOP-led filibuster before the government shutdown was a good tactic, and if he's prepared to do it again as new debt deadlines approach. Paul responded. "Even though it appeared that I was participating in [the shutdown], I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it though is that it's a conundrum. [...] We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions."- published: 19 Nov 2013
