Origami dresses by Jule Waibel installed at Bershka stores in 25 cities
See for architecture and design movies at dezeen.com/movies
German designer Jule Waibel has created 25 of her folded paper dresses for fashion brand Bershka's shop windows around the world.
Jule Waibel produces the dresses by hand-pleating large sheets of paper into forms that fit the body. Each takes over ten hours to complete.
She was contacted by Bershka with an offer to exhibit 25 dresses in as many of its flagship stores in cities including London, Paris, Milan, Istanbul, Osaka and Mexico City.
"I was excited and shocked at the same time," Waibel told Dezeen, "25 dresses for 25 shops?!"
Waibel scores the paper horizontally and vertically before folding along the seams, then repeats the process for the diagonal.
The two halves of the sheet are printed with a different pattern, one for the bodice and the other for the skirt.
Most of the dresses are printed with colour gradients, while a few are covered with detailed patterns.
Different colours and graphics were used for each of the cities, but Waibel was keen to move away from stereotypical shades and motifs such as the ones used in the countries' flags.
"I found it too obvious to use the typical colours and instead I wanted to try something different," she explained. "I figured that the people must be bored with seeing the same style all the time."
Her favourites are the black and white design in Paris, the dress patterned with tiny black and orange fish in Berlin and the installation on London's Oxford Street that appears to glow like lava.
Waibel and her team spent just over a week producing the garments and a set of accessories at a studio in Barcelona.
"Together with my supportive pleating assistants we managed to fold 25 dresses, two bags and two umbrellas within eight tough working days!" she said.

The Minutemen Documentary Trailer
In a barren desert surrounded by limitless horizon, there stands a 700 mile perforated barrier separating Us and Them. The sun sets along this rusty fence as a crusty old veteran puffs a cigarette and lowers his binoculars. The day is over and the cold night is theirs. He lowers the flag, salutes a helicopter passing through the darkness, and settles into his dusty camper for another canned meal alone on Patriot Point.
In 2005, aggravated by the influx of undocumented immigrants and fed up with the lack of government involvement, the Minutemen positioned themselves along the U.S. / Mexico border. Armed, energetic, and bound by common ideals, they are a diverse, often fragmented group of disillusioned freedom fighters led by a modern day Don Quixote "Lil' Dog" and his four legged companion "Freckles".
Zealous and often comical, these subjects exist in what many believe to be the realm of vigilantism. This cinema vérité documentary follows nine of these eccentric, self-appointed watchdogs as they fight to regain their sovereignty as well as their own sanity in an isolated and dangerous landscape. Filmed over the course of four years, we examine the motivations of and relationships between these conflicted patriots.
With the new Arizona immigration law raising the public consciousness about border issues, The Minutemen Movie gives insight into the role citizen watchdogs play in influencing government policy.

2008 Baja 1000 Trophy Truck Champions Roger Norman and Larry Roseler of Norman Motorsports - Start to Finish
ENSENADA, Mexico—Relishing in the euphoria of yet another record-setting performance, Roger Norman and Larry Roeseler enjoyed the well-earned fruits of their laborious journey by capturing the overall 4-wheel victories late Friday in the 41st Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race.
Beating a deep and talented field of 347 starters that came from 29 U.S. States and 34 countries, Norman/Roeseler powered their way to the top of the marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck division in the No. 8 Norman Motorsports Ford F-150.
The world’s best known and most prestigious desert race started for the 34th time and finished for the 19th time in Ensenada, 65 miles south of the U.S border at San Diego.
As the final checkered flag dropped Saturday evening for the last of 227 official finishers in the 41st annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, it was obvious that another incredible and colorful chapter had been added to the legacy of this popular desert race in the magnificent Baja California, Mexico, peninsula.
The 347 starters are the most ever in race history for a ‘loop’ race and the third most of any race in the 41-year history of the event. The 227 finishers are also the third-most in event history. The finishing percentage this year was an impressive 65.4 percent.
Roeseler, Irvine, Calif., drove the first 400 miles and Norman, Reno, Nev., the final 231.35 as the daring duo mastered the Mexico’s magnificently mysterious northern part of the Baja peninsula to finish in a jubilant time of 12:40:33 at an average speed of 49.81mph in the No. 8 Norman Motorsports Ford F-150.
Roeseler’s overall win gave him a race-record 13 overall race wins, including three in the 4-wheel division to go along with his 10 on a motorcycle. It was also Roeseler’s 17 career class win in this race.
It was Roger Norman’s first win in this race. It was also the second straight win of the year for Roeseler/Norman, who first won the SCORE Terrible’s Primm 300 in September.
Roeseler now has three career SCORE Trophy-Truck race wins while Norman has earned two. It was also Roeseler’s fifth straight class win in this race, having won the last for years driving with Troy Herbst in Class 1.
Winning the overall ATV and Class 25 victory was the team of Wayne Matlock, El Cajon, Calif./Harold Goodman, Brownstown, Mich./Marc Spaeth, Ramona, Calif./West Miller, Fallbrook, Calif., with a championship time of 14:47:25, averaging 42.69mph in a Honda TRX700XX. The talented team swept all three SCORE Baja races this season to earn the season point title in their class.
“I got in the driver’s seat in the lead thanks to Larry and I just had to bring it home, but that is easier said than done,” said Norman, the Northern Nevada developer who owns the Crystal Bay Casino in North Lake Tahoe. “I took it easy and kept gaining a little ground on B.J. (Baldwin).”
“This is the toughest and greatest race in the world and we were racing against the greatest desert racers in the world. I knew we had to have a flawless day to win and we did. We had no flats; our BFG Tires were tougher than the Baja rocks. The only little thing is we went too strong off of a jump around Valle de Trinidad and our top lights came off so we stopped for about a minute and a half to put them back on and they were fine. We’re here and we have a team that won’t quit and we made it to the finish line with all the body parts.”
Said Roeseler regarding his continuing winning streak in this cherishe d race, “It was a fantastic day. I followed B.J. off the start. He started 30 seconds in front of us and Brian Collins was doing a heck of a job. It was exciting all the way down until we finally got by the field. We were first on the road and we kept that spot ever since. B.J. was keeping us honest. If he got back in front of us, then we would have had to have finished within 30 seconds of him.”
“Roger (Norman) did a heck of a job. He kept that five, six-minute lead all the way from when I gave him the five or six minutes. What a wonderful, wonderful race. I went all day today to the 400-mile marker with no flats and I’m pretty sure Roger went all the way to the finish with no flats, so we won the SCORE Baja 1000 with no flat tires. Winning Primm was a great race for us and great momentum for the team so coming to the 1000 with that momentum, for sure, got us going and with our pre-running and preparation, it all paid off.”

Larry's Testimony in Support of HB 2372
Testimony of Larry Halloran in support of HB 2372;
Chairman Kinzer and Members of the House Judiciary Committee,
We ask for your support of HB 2372; An Act concerning immigration; requiring verification of employment eligibility and making other amendments concerning immigration.
The fundamental question today is not illegal immigration itself. If we are a nation of laws and are faithful to our obligations as citizens or legislators then we will rightfully conclude that the rule of law is the bedrock foundation of our society and passage of this legislation should require little debate.
I would not dispute that employer and citizen alike have found the blind eye beneficial to their pocket book but financial gain, open borders or humanitarian compassion are not acceptable substitutes for the rule of law. Yesterdays benefit (however perceived) is today's liability as our citizens find themselves struggling to meet the increased burden of illegal immigration on our society that cannot be measured in financial terms alone.
The blessings and benefits of America are bountiful. But, if they are to be preserved for our posterity and those seeking the benefit of citizenship they must be secured by principled adherence to our state and federal Constitutions.
Illegal immigration is a festering cancer that damages both our society and those unlawfully seeking employment. It creates the necessity for a second society operating under the radar that inhibits the necessary assimilation of new immigrants into the America family. We are no longer concerned with a few thousand illegal immigrants that could be easily absorbed but rather tens of millions that now tax the limits of our social networks. It is past time for the half measured approaches, nod and wink policies and felonious excuses of citizen, employer and legislator alike related to the employment eligibility of illegal immigrants are put to rest. It is time that a lawful approach to employment eligibility verification becomes the rule for all employers and the accepted social norm for all citizens. Of even greater importance is that you, the citizen legislator, honor your oath of office and uphold the rule of law.
Our Founders studied the laws and customs of many nations (both failed and existing) and took from them guidance for our Constitution that best protected a free people and society. For over 200 years, our Constitution has served as the legal binder for our citizens and those wishing to assimilate into a free society. Today, many seek to dilute the authority of our Constitution through substitution of unlawful privileges that in essence establish an equal but separate society within our borders. A society that stands in stark contrast and in opposition to the fundamental necessity of assimilation at the expense of individual liberties guaranteed to all by our Constitution. Such practices serve to disadvantage the citizens and legal immigrants that play by the rules and adhere to our laws by granting unearned favor to the illegal immigrant.
Surely, we are all aware of the inequities, consequences and unquestionable failures of equal but separate jurisprudence practiced at times within our own society. To turn a blind eye or foster such practices is treasonous to our founding principles, documents and the faith of those who gave all to defend and preserve the greatest grant of freedom ever known to man; America.
The challenges before us in preserving the free society and America are indeed great but do include a provision for national suicide. Tolerance does not beget equal but separate in a free society but instead requires assimilation through shared core values and equal application of the laws
Thank you for your favorable support of HB 2372, your service and the defense of freedom for all.
Respectfully,
Larry Halloran, Chairman
