LTFRB: Bus inspections start before road mishaps

THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) had an ongoing inspection of bus companies prior to the separate deadly road accidents involving Don Mariano and GV Florida, an official said Monday.
In an interview, LTFRB chairperson Winston Ginez said the agency has already conducted inspections on bus companies included in the "horror list" of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC).
"'Yung horror list doon nakalista 'yung mga buses na karaniwang na-i-involved sa mga aksidente," Ginez said.
He said inspections are being conducted on a regular basis.
"Hindi kami ningas kugon," he added.
Late last year, a bus owned by the Don Mariano transit fell off the elevated skyway in Taguig City killing eight passengers.
Last week, 14 people were killed when a GV Florida bus ferrying more than 40 passengers fell into a ravine in Bontoc, Mountain Province.
The LTFRB cancelled the franchise of Don Mariano bus lines after it conducted a thorough investigation while a 30-day preventive suspension was issued on the entire fleet of GV Florida pending investigation of the Bontoc accident. (Sunnex)
