Murrayfield is an affluent area in the west of Edinburgh, Scotland. It is to the east of Corstorphine and west of Roseburn. The A8 road runs east-west through the north of the area.

It is known mostly for containing Murrayfield Stadium, home to the Scottish national rugby union team and venue for many sporting events such as the 2000 Rugby League Challenge Cup Final which saw Bradford Bulls beat Leeds Rhinos 24 - 18 and the 2002 Challenge Cup final which saw Wigan Warriors beat St Helens 21 - 12. In the shadow of the Stadium is Murrayfield Ice Rink, which currently hosts the Edinburgh Capitals ice hockey team and previously played host to the famous Murrayfield Racers. In the 2006-07 season, Heart of Midlothian played their UEFA Champions League ties at Murrayfield.

In addition to the stadium, there is a Murrayfield Golf Course. Next to this is Easter Belmont Road (a private road), one of Edinburgh's "Millionaire's Rows" and is home to local businessman David Murray and Keith Miller. Aside from sports facilities, there is a lot of residential land use, and the area has a BUPA private hospital and small numbers of shops, businesses including a BMW dealership, and hotels. The Murrayfield area is full of medium and large sized houses.

Christopher Douglas Paterson, MBE (born 30 March 1978 in Edinburgh) is an ambassador and specialist coach for the Scotland and Edinburgh rugby union teams. He is a former professional player who played for Scotland - and for the most part of is career - Edinburgh. Paterson is Scotland’s record cap and points holder with 109 caps and 809 points being capable in a range of positions, including fullback, wing and fly-half. In recent years he played the majority of his rugby as fullback.

Paterson retired from international rugby in December 2011 and as a professional player in May 2012.

Paterson started his rugby career with hometown club Gala, the highlight being a solo try that won Gala the 1999 Scottish Cup at Murrayfield. Soon after Paterson turned professional by signing for Glasgow where he played only two games before signing for Edinburgh Rugby. In becoming a professional player he dropped out from Edinburgh University where he was studying to become a PE teacher.

From 2000-2002 Paterson played in the Magners League predecessor competition the Scottish/Welsh League (prior to the addition of Irish teams). He was part of the Edinburgh squad that reached the Heineken cup quarter finals in 2003/2004. For seven years he was a mainstay of the Edinburgh squad. With the ongoing dispute between the SRU and then Edinburgh Rugby owner Bob Carruthers over the refusal to release Edinburgh players for a pre 2007 World Cup training camp, Paterson left Edinburgh for Gloucester by mutual consent. On the 24th July 2007 Paterson signed a 3 year contract with Gloucester
