Welcome back to Behind THE Barriers—or, for new fans of cyclocross, welcome to the show that follows along with pro cyclocross racers and offers a glimpse into the euphoric wins, the devastating losses, and every ridiculous moment in between. Originally started by pro cyclocross and four-time National Champion Jeremy Powers at the beginning of his career in pro cyclocross racing, the web series is back and bigger than ever. Things have changed for Jeremy since the show last aired in 2014: Not only has he created Aspire Racing and taken on two pro racers for this season, he’s also become a new dad, and as a team owner and a racer, he’s got a lot going on. But this season of Behind THE Barriers isn’t just about Jeremy: This season, we’re meeting his teammates Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov as well. Get to know the new cast of characters—a silver medalist at Elite U23 Women’s World Championships and a podium finisher at US Nationals—in this first episode that peeks inside of the team’s Western Massachusetts training camp. Get ready to laugh, rethink your feelings on toasters, covet some throwback Rapha kit, and laugh with Jeremy again. We’ll be back all season, and the fun is just beginning.

Things are going great for the Aspire Racing team as Jeremy Powers, Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov headed to Iowa to race the JingleCross World Cup. There’s lot of dancing, eating and bike racing, of course! The European racers are out in full force, Lars van der Haar and the Telenet-Fidea make their first appearance talking high-vis and a little bit of trash. The racing starts under the lights in Iowa with a Friday night race, and Ellen had the crowd going wild with her bunny-hopping skills over on the barriers (watch close for her huge smile after she nails the first set). Then, in almost total darkness, the elite men hit the course, and it is a brutal battle, with many of the top riders in the world duking it out at the front of the race. (Pro tip: “Anytime you don’t do well, call it something other than what it actually was,” Jeremy says after he refers to the night race as his openers.)
On Saturday, the crew learns how to take a good team photo… And Spencer practices his Euro posing for when he has a camper van with his photo on it.
And then, it was time for the World Cup on Sunday. After a fast start, Ellen continued to wow the crowd and make up time by hopping the barriers—even sitting in second for a while during the earlier parts of the race—but it was Katerina Nash who had the top ride of the day, followed by Katie Keough and Sanne Cant. Ellen Finished in a strong eighth place, and was really happy about her fitness and technical skills throughout the race. In the men’s race, it was a Belgian boxing match at the front, and the hot, bumpy conditions were tough on all the racers. Mathieu Van der Poel had the ride of the day, looking almost casual as he sailed around the course to the win. Spencer’s race started incredibly strong, but a nagging back ache caused him to drop back in the rankings…. but watching him climb Mount Krumpet, it’s easy to see how he’s been snagging podiums all season. Jeremy managed to move into 27th position after battling for spots all race.

Travel with the Aspire Racing team to Rochester, New York, for the first UCI race of the season. Jeremy Powers, Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov—along with the team mechanics and manager—are figuring out how the new team dynamics work, making space for each other in the kitchen, perfecting bike measurements and dialing in tire pressure… And that’s all before the racing starts. (Jeremy also shows us his Brachiosaurus imitation, but you have to see it to appreciate it fully.)
In Episode 1, we got to meet the case of characters that make up the Aspire Racing Edition of Behind THE Barriers. But now, it’s game time. Once the whistle blows, we get to see Ellen take her first C1 win, then we see Jeremy hit the podium and Spencer finish 4th in his best C1 race to date. Jeremy also interviews Belgian rider Rob Peeters post-race, and he and Spencer hit a grocery store and almostttt come home with a gallon of hot sauce.
The season has officially started, the team has bonded, and this episode is the first chance viewers are getting to see the full Aspire team doing what they do best. Next up is the first World Cup of the season at JingleCross, so stay tuned!

Jeremy Powers
Jeremy Powers (born June 29, 1983 in Niantic, Connecticut) is an American professional racing cyclist who has won over 60 UCI victories, four USA Cyclocross national championships and the top-ranked American rider in the world.
Jeremy’s love of cycling was apparent from an early age. Jeremy loved to tear around the house on his BMX bike, and it wasn’t long before he started turning heads at local mountain bike races. He soon found his way to the Team Devo junior mountain bike program, and with their support he won his first major race in 2000, the Junior Mountain Bike World Cup in Napa Valley.
Powers was introduced to cyclocross early in his cycling career as a way to stay fit at the end of the mountain bike season. It was the only time of the year when roadies and mountain bikers would converge in one place, and test each other’s skills and fitness. In his native New England, cyclocross has been a regular part of each season for decades, and Jeremy excelled at the short, fast, technical races. Powers discovered that the frenetic pace and camaraderie of cyclocross suited his high energy and outgoing personality.

There’s lot of dancing, eating and bike racing, of course! The European racers are out in full force, Lars van der Haar and the Telenet-Fidea make their first appearance talking high-vis and a little bit of trash. The racing starts under the lights in Iowa with a Friday night race, and Ellen had the crowd going wild with her bunny-hopping skills over on the barriers (watch close for her huge smile after she nails the first set). Then, in almost total darkness, the elite men hit the course, and it is a brutal battle, with many of the top riders in the world duking it out at the front of the race. (Pro tip: “Anytime you don’t do well, call it something other than what it actually was,” Jeremy says after he refers to the night race as his openers.)
On Saturday, the crew learns how to take a good team photo… And Spencer practices his Euro posing for when he has a camper van with his photo on it.
And then, it was time for the World Cup on Sunday. After a fast start, Ellen continued to wow the crowd and make up time by hopping the barriers—even sitting in second for a while during the earlier parts of the race—but it was Katerina Nash who had the top ride of the day, followed by Katie Keough and Sanne Cant. Ellen Finished in a strong eighth place, and was really happy about her fitness and technical skills throughout the race. In the men’s race, it was a Belgian boxing match at the front, and the hot, bumpy conditions were tough on all the racers. Mathieu Van der Poel had the ride of the day, looking almost casual as he sailed around the course to the win. Spencer’s race started incredibly strong, but a nagging back ache caused him to drop back in the rankings…. but watching him climb Mount Krumpet, it’s easy to see how he’s been snagging podiums all season. Jeremy managed to move into 27th position after battling for spots all race.

Once the whistle blows, we get to see Ellen take her first C1 win, then we see Jeremy hit the podium and Spencer finish 4th in his best C1 race to date. Jeremy also interviews Belgian rider Rob Peeters post-race, and he and Spencer hit a grocery store and almostttt come home with a gallon of hot sauce.
The season has officially started, the team has bonded, and this episode is the first chance viewers are getting to see the full Aspire team doing what they do best. Next up is the first World Cup of the season at JingleCross, so stay tuned!

Behind THE Barriers - Aspire Racing Edition Episode 3
Things are going great for the Aspire Racing team as Jeremy Powers, Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov headed to Iowa to race the JingleCross World Cup. There’s lot of dancing, eating and bike racing, of course! The European racers are out in full force, Lars van der Haar and the Telenet-Fidea make their first appearance talking high-vis and a little bit of trash. The racing starts under the lights in Iowa with a Friday night race, and Ellen had the crowd going wild with her bunny-hopping skills over on the barriers (watch close for her huge smile after she nails the first set). Things are going great for the Aspire Racing team as Jeremy Powers, Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov headed to Iowa to race the JingleCross World Cup. There’s lot...
Things are going great for the Aspire Racing team as Jeremy Powers, Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov headed to Iowa to race the JingleCross World Cup. There’s lot of dancing, eating and bike racing, of course! The European racers are out in full force, Lars van der Haar and the Telenet-Fidea make their first appearance talking high-vis and a little bit of trash. The racing starts under the lights in Iowa with a Friday night race, and Ellen had the crowd going wild with her bunny-hopping skills over on the barriers (watch close for her huge smile after she nails the first set). Then, in almost total darkness, the elite men hit the course, and it is a brutal battle, with many of the top riders in the world duking it out at the front of the race. (Pro tip: “Anytime you don’t do well, call it something other than what it actually was,” Jeremy says after he refers to the night race as his openers.)
On Saturday, the crew learns how to take a good team photo… And Spencer practices his Euro posing for when he has a camper van with his photo on it.
And then, it was time for the World Cup on Sunday. After a fast start, Ellen continued to wow the crowd and make up time by hopping the barriers—even sitting in second for a while during the earlier parts of the race—but it was Katerina Nash who had the top ride of the day, followed by Katie Keough and Sanne Cant. Ellen Finished in a strong eighth place, and was really happy about her fitness and technical skills throughout the race. In the men’s race, it was a Belgian boxing match at the front, and the hot, bumpy conditions were tough on all the racers. Mathieu Van der Poel had the ride of the day, looking almost casual as he sailed around the course to the win. Spencer’s race started incredibly strong, but a nagging back ache caused him to drop back in the rankings…. but watching him climb Mount Krumpet, it’s easy to see how he’s been snagging podiums all season. Jeremy managed to move into 27th position after battling for spots all race.

Behind THE Barriers - Aspire Racing Edition Episode 7 SRAM Edition
In this special episode of Behind THE Barriers, the crew heads to SRAM and ZIPP headquarters in Indianapolis. All of the cyclocross SRAM athletes were in attendance for a couple of crazy days of videos, research and development, meetings and some info sessions about the latest and greatest gear. In this edition of Behind THE Barriers, Aspire Racing has a ‘home race’ at KMC Crossfest just an hour away in Connecticut. Mechanic Tom Hopper teaches the fans about optimal tire pressure (if you race, you’re going to want to hear about this!) and Jeremy Powers, Spencer Petrov and Ellen Noble tackle the Friday night under-the-lights race. Jeremy the Dud is a comedy set in a world where everyone has a disability, and those that don't are treated with the same prejudice, stigma and condescending attitudes people with disabilities face in our own society. Things are going great for the Aspire Racing team as Jeremy Powers, Ellen Noble and Spencer Petrov headed to Iowa to race the JingleCross World Cup. There’s lot of dancing, eating and bike racing, of course! The European racers are out in full force, Lars van der Haar and the Telenet-Fidea make their first appearance talking high-vis and a little bit of trash. The racing starts under the lights in Iowa with a Friday night race, and Ellen had the crowd going wild with her bunny-hopping skills over on the barriers (watch close for her huge smile after she nails the first set). Then, in almost total darkness, the elite men hit the course, and it is a brutal battle, with many of the top riders in the world duking it out at the front of the race. (Pro tip: “Anytime you don’t do well, call it something other than what it actually was,” Jeremy says after he refers to the night race as his openers.)
On Saturday, the crew learns how to take a good team photo… And Spencer practices his Euro posing for when he has a camper van with his photo on it.
And then, it was time for the World Cup on Sunday. After a fast start, Ellen continued to wow the crowd and make up time by hopping the barriers—even sitting in second for a while during the earlier parts of the race—but it was Katerina Nash who had the top ride of the day, followed by Katie Keough and Sanne Cant. Ellen Finished in a strong eighth place, and was really happy about her fitness and technical skills throughout the race. In the men’s race, it was a Belgian boxing match at the front, and the hot, bumpy conditions were tough on all the racers. Mathieu Van der Poel had the ride of the day, looking almost casual as he sailed around the course to the win. Spencer’s race started incredibly strong, but a nagging back ache caused him to drop back in the rankings…. but watching him climb Mount Krumpet, it’s easy to see how he’s been snagging podiums all season. Jeremy managed to move into 27th position after battling for spots all race.

Mechanic Tom Hopper teaches the fans about optimal tire pressure (if you race, you’re going to want to hear about this!) and Jeremy Powers, Spencer Petrov and Ellen Noble tackle the Friday night under-the-lights race. It’s the first in the four-weekend US Cup series with $10K for both the men’s and women’s overall winners, so it’s kind of a big deal for American cyclocross. The racing is crazy, technical, and Ellen finishes in seventh… with a cameo by her mom and grandmother. Spencer raced to a career best, placing 2nd in a C1 race and the whole crew was absolutely ecstatic. Fellow racers Tobin Ortenblad and Caroline Mani swing into the tent as well, for some post- and pre-race banter. And Sunday was a whole new race, but with a similar result for Ellen in seventh again. Jeremy made it into 7th as well, with Spencer in 11th. Altogether, a solid weekend of racing for the team—and a lot of antics throughout, as always. But the real fun comes when the racing is over and Jeremy starts digging around his mail, doing some yard work, giving the video crew a tour of his stomping grounds in Massachusetts, the team van, and all the fun day-to-day stuff of being a pro… and being the goofy BTB founder that we all remember. Then, Ellen and Spencer sit down and get serious about their eating habits, their roommate agreement, and a normal day in the life for the newest team members.
