Children's Commissioner set to get more powers

There is bipartisan support for moves to increase the powers of Tasmania's Children's Commissioner after the state election.

There has been frustration about the role for several years, particularly after the case of 12-year-old girl sold for sex by her mother.

Unrest came to a head last year when the former Commissioner Aileen Ashford quit.

Both Labor and the Liberals say the role will be changed to allow better access to information and to initiate inquiries.
