Programs

ABC News and Current Affairs broadcasts agenda-setting programs across multiple radio and television networks, as well as online. The programs draw on the resources of ABC reporters across Australia and correspondents around the globe to cover the full spectrum of current events, with some programs focusing on specialist subjects such as world affairs, domestic politics, rural issues or business.

7.30

7.30 provides the best analysis of local, national and international events from an Australian perspective, weeknights on ABC1. Leigh Sales anchors the program from Sydney, Monday to Thursday, with local state and territory editions on Fridays. Political Editor Chris Uhlmann covers the federal political stories of the day from Canberra. The program's imperative is to provide up-to-the minute, balanced coverage of the most important issues of the day whether they be political, economic, medical, environmental, social, sporting or cultural.

On Friday nights the 7.30 state editions focus on the local issues of the week and the stories that matter in each region. You can catch-up on iview or through repeats on ABC News 24, and story items and full state-editions of 7.30 are archived online and can be seen here.

ABC News Breakfast

ABC News Breakfast covers Australian national and international news, analysis, debate, finance, sport and weather. The program reports news as it breaks in Australia and around the world weekdays from 6:00-9:30am (AEST) on ABC1 and ABC News 24, and streamed live from ABC News Online.

News Breakfast features live crosses to ABC newsrooms across Australia and brings you the latest interviews with newsmakers around the country. Presented by Virginia Trioli and Michael Rowland, with Paul Kennedy bringing you all the latest sports news and Vanessa O'Hanlon with the weather.

AM

AM is ABC Radio's flagship current affairs program presented by Tony Eastley. For more than 45 years AM has been setting the day's news agenda with concise reports and analysis from journalists around Australia and around the world.

The AM team puts together editions at 6:05am on ABC Local Radio, 7.10am on ABC Radio National and the main edition at 8am on ABC Local Radio. A special Perth edition is at 8am, Western Australia time. The program is streamed live from the AM website, and podcasts of full programs or individual story items, as well as MP3s and program transcripts are all available.

Asia Pacific and Asia Pacific Business

Keeping you up-to-date with what's happening in our region, Radio Australia's Asia Pacific brings you the latest coverage and analysis on what's making headlines throughout Asia and the South Pacific. With reports from across the region Asia Pacific Business is a weekly round-up of economic conditions, regulatory changes, mergers and acquisitions, and the pitfalls and opportunities of doing business in new markets. Podcasts, MP3s and web-feeds are all available.

Asia Pacific is on Radio Australia, Monday to Friday at 10.05pm, 1.05pm and 3.05pm (AEST) and at various other times internationally. Asia Pacific can also be listened to on ABC Radio National, Tuesday to Saturday 12.04am and repeated at 5am. Asia-Pacific Business is on Sundays at 6.10pm, Fridays at 5.10pm. On Saturdays Asia Pacific airs at 12.34pm, 2.30pm, 5.30pm and 9.05pm (AEST), and at various other times internationally.

Asia Pacific Focus

Asia Pacific Focus provides a weekly analysis of the biggest stories affecting Asia and the Pacific, featuring interviews with key decision-makers from across the region. The program is on ABC1 on Sundays at 11am (AEST) and across the region on Fridays and Saturdays at various times on Australia Network. Asia Pacific Focus is presented by Jim Middleton.

Australian Story

Australian Story is broadcast on Mondays at 8pm on ABC1 and repeated on Saturdays at 12:30pm. Stories are 'narrated' by the subjects themselves. The program aims to present a varied and contrasting picture of contemporary Australia and Australians from many different perspectives and to contribute to the wider spectrum of coverage of issues and individuals. There are broadband specials with extended footage and interviews, and you can watch the program on iview. The program is repeated on ABC News 24 on Saturdays at 4.30pm and on Australia Network.

Background Briefing

Background Briefing is ABC Radio National's agenda-setting current affairs radio documentary program. It varies from week to week in style and content, sometimes doing straight investigative journalism, sometimes exploring important ideas or social issues with an 'on-the-road' documentary style. You will find profiles of politicians, analysis of behind-the-scenes issues that shape society, and sometimes an exploration of an idea. The program is on Sundays at 8am as part of Sunday Extra with Jonathan Green, and is repeated on Tuesdays at 2pm. Podcasts and RSS feeds are available.

Behind the News

Informing and entertaining Australian school children for more than 40 years, Behind the News is a high-energy, fun way for upper primary and secondary students to learn about current issues and events in their world. Presented by Nathan Bazley, the program explains the big news events of the week and provides an engaging way for children to learn about what is happening in Australia and the world. 

The website is packed with kids activities, related to each weekly program, as well as broadband versions of the program. There is also an extensive teachers kit available online to assist with the activities and tips on how to expand on the issues dealt with in the program.

There is a Your News section, where students can produce their own news stories and send them into the program. Behind the News is on Tuesdays at 10:00am on ABC1 and repeated on Thursdays at 10.35am. BTN Daily airs Monday to Friday at 4.55pm and BTN Specials on Wednesdays at 10.40am. BTN Extra is on ABC3, Monday to Friday at 12pm.

Capital Hill

In the countdown to the Federal Election on September 14, ABC News 24’s Political Editor Lyndal Curtis takes the political pulse with interviews and discussions live from Parliament House in Canberra, every weekday at 5.15pm (AEST) on ABC News 24.

Correspondents Report

Correspondents Report is broadcast on ABC Radio National every Sunday morning at 8:05am and is presented by Elizabeth Jackson. The program has built up a solid reputation as one of the most authoritative sources of international news analysis on Australian radio. Correspondents Report provides a unique insight into the developments shaping our world, and reveals the sharp observation of some of the ABC's most experienced correspondents. As well as covering major stories at a level of detail not always possible during the week, it gives ABC foreign journalists the opportunity to reflect on the societies and cultures in which they are based.

Friday Late

Friday Late is a weekly interview program from the people who bring you PM. Daily current affairs doesn't always have time to let guests stretch out and expand on their knowledge - Friday Late will fill that gap. Each Friday night at 10pm on ABC Radio National, Mark Colvin talks to three or four newsmakers, analysts and thinkers about the events that shape our time.

Foreign Correspondent

Foreign Correspondent has been Australia's leading international current affairs program since 1992. For more than 20 years reporters, producers, camera operators and sound recordists have travelled to just about every corner of the world - sometimes dangerous, often remote - in pursuit of stories that could be confronting and challenging, heart-warming and moving.

The program is broadcast on ABC 1 on Tuesdays at 8pm (AEST) and on ABC News 24 and Australia Network. You can also watch it on iview or from the Foreign Correspondent website.  This year the program will air in two seasons. These episodes will be complemented by extended Foreign Correspondent specials throughout the year. Foreign Correspondent will return to air on August 13.

Foreign Correspondent stories are also regularly re-broadcast by more than 20 international networks including CNN International, Al Jazeera, NHK Japan and TV NZ.

Four Corners

Four Corners is Australia's premier television current affairs program and has been part of the national story for more than 50 years. Since August 1961 the program has been exposing scandals, triggering inquiries, firing debate, confronting taboos and interpreting fads, trends and sub-cultures.

Its consistently high standards of journalism and film-making have earned international recognition and an array of awards. Four Corners has a series of special broadband editions with extended analysis and extra background information and resources. Four Corners is on ABC1 on Mondays at 8.30pm and repeated on Tuesdays at 11.30pm and can be seen on ABC News 24 on Saturdays at 8pm. Grandstand

Grandstand TV is an exciting blend of news, views and in depth analysis of all that's going on in the world of sport. The program is on ABC News 24, Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm (AEST) and is hosted by the ABC's award winning sports presenter and journalist Peter Wilkins. Grandstand features interviews with the big players and news makers in Australian sport, utilising the full resources of ABC Grandstand's highly credentialed commentators and experts. The program carries on a proud ABC tradition of providing a platform to air the stories of sportsmen and women across all fields of endeavour. 

Inside Business

Each Sunday at 10am on ABC1, Inside Business provides news and analysis from the corporate world around Australia. Presented by Alan Kohler, one of Australia's leading financial journalists, the program combines interviews with newsmakers and examination of the issues making waves each week, with hard business news stories. You can watch the broadband versions of the features stories, as well as read program transcripts online.

Insiders

Presented by Barrie Cassidy, Insiders is a fast-moving treatment of national affairs with interviews, discussion, and analysis. Each week the program brings together the experience and insights of leading political commentators and other contributors representing a wide range of opinions.

Podcasts are available and you can watch the broadband versions, as well as read program transcripts. The program is on ABC1 and ABC News 24 every Sunday at 9am to 10am and can also be watched on iview.

Landline

Landline is Australia's national rural issues program and is presented by Pip Courtney. The full hour of Landline can be seen on Sundays at noon on ABC1 and is repeated the following Monday at 11am. 

Since 1991 this program has been ABC-TV's main vehicle for current affairs coverage of regional/rural issues and events. Landline typically features stories, ranging across agri-politics and economics, business and product innovation, animal and crop science, regional infrastructure, climate and weather trends, regional and rural services, music and lifestyle.

As much as anything Landline's enduring popularity is based on its ability to explain and contextualise the issues affecting Australians living and working in the bush to those living in our big cities.

Landline is repeated on ABC News 24 on Sundays at 11pm and is broadcast on the Australia Network on Saturdays at various times. Catch up on episodes on iview.

Lateline

Lateline is a unique nightly news analysis program bringing you up-to-the-minute coverage of Australian and international news and events. The program is on Monday to Friday at 10.30pm and is presented by Emma Alberici, Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and Tony Jones on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In 2010, the program celebrated 20 years on ABC television.

The program engages the foremost experts or commentators - wherever in the world they may be - to bring you insights from a range of perspectives. If they're making news, launching new ideas, or at the forefront of debate, the team at Lateline will track them down and bring them to you.

Video, vodcasts and transcripts of stories and interviews are all available on the website. Transcript archives go back to 1998 and programs are available on iview.

Midday

Midday is on ABC1 and ABC News 24, Monday to Friday at 12pm (AEST) and streamed live from ABC News Online. The program is presented by Ros Childs and provides the latest national and international news. The bulletin has a business focus, with the latest stock market information and what's happening in the world of finance.  An updated Perth edition of the program is done each day.

National Press Club

The National Press Club is Australia's leading forum for discussion and debate and for major statements on politics and public policy. Decision makers, Australian political leaders, foreign heads of state and leaders from all fields of society are among the speakers at the National Press Club. The addresses are broadcast live on ABC1 and ABC News 24 and also streamed live online and archived here.

News Exchange

Hosted by Matthew Cargill, News Exchange is where television meets the web. Each week the team browse the top trending stories online and in social media - covering news, technology, business, sport & entertainment. News Exchange is on ABC News 24 on Fridays at 8pm (AEST). News on 3

News on 3 Updates are hosted by Sophia Thomson and are on Monday to Friday at 3.30pm and 7.55pm on ABC3.   The 5 minute action-packed bulletin features the top news stories and issues of the day. News on 3 is targeted at primary and junior secondary school children.

Newsline

Australia Network's flagship current affairs program, Newsline, provides in-depth analysis of major news events around the region and the world. Anchor Jim Middleton draws on more than 40 years experience to bring you the news behind the headlines. Newsline features interviews, in-depth reports and insights into the issues affecting you and your world today.

With correspondents in Beijing, Tokyo, Jakarta, New Delhi, Bangkok, the Middle East, Moscow, London, Washington, Canberra, Auckland and the Pacific, Newsline is the ideal way to keep up with what's important across the globe. The program is on Monday to Friday at various international times on Australia Network and repeated on ABC News 24 at 12.30pm (AEST).

Offsiders

Barrie Cassidy presents Offsiders on ABC1 each Sunday at 10:30am and repeated on ABC News 24 at 2.30pm (AEST). A program for anyone who's serious about sport, Offsiders provides challenging, insightful, humorous debates about the topic that dominates weekends - sport. Each week the program brings together the experience and insights of leading sporting commentators and other contributors representing a wide range of opinions. One Plus One

One Plus One is the ABC's highly acclaimed interview program. Presented by Jane Hutcheon, the half-hour weekly program features up to three face-to-face interviews from Australia and around the world. Each week, Jane and a team of contributors bring you the best thinkers, personalities, writers, movers and shakers in provocative and often surprising conversations.

One Plus One is on Fridays at 11.30am on ABC1 and 8.30pm on ABC News 24, and repeated on News 24 on Saturdays at 5.30pm and Sundays at 9.30pm. You can also catch up on iview.

Planet America

Chas Licciardello and John Barron take a wry and insightful look at the major issues in the USA and how they impact on the world. Can President Obama's second term bring Americans closer together or will politics get in the way? Planet America is on Fridays at 7.30pm and repeated on Saturdays at 10.30pm on News 24. Also available on iview or here.

PM

PM is one of the grand institutions of Australian public broadcasting. For more than four decades, the program has been reporting on Australia and the world. It was the first Australian current affairs program to use journalists, not announcers or actors, as hosts. PM's timeslot at the end of the day has always given it a strong position from which to produce commentary and analysis on the political events of the moment, both in Canberra and the state capitals and provide the latest reports on the news events of the day. PM is hosted by Mark Colvin.

The program is streamed live from the PM website and podcasts of the full program or individual story items, as well as MP3s and program transcripts are available. PM is on Monday to Friday on Radio National after the 5pm news and after the 6pm news on ABC Local Radio.

Sunday Profile

Each Sunday at 9.05pm on ABC Radio National, Richard Aedy talks to people of interest and influence who are playing a role in public life. Sunday Profile is a national program which focuses on key issues in Australia, providing listeners with detailed analysis of stories, background information and key interviews with major players.

The Business

The day's business and finance news, with the latest trends on international share and currency markets, pointing to what Australians can expect in the day ahead. Presented by Ticky Fullerton at 8.30pm on ABC News 24 , Monday to Thursday at 8.30pm and on ABC1 at 11pm.  You can watch previous programs on the website and podcasts are available.

The Drum

The Drum presents lively and thought-provoking perspectives on the issues of the day from ABC personalities and from a variety of political and social commentators. Building on its online success, The Drum TV program offers opinion and analysis, debate and argument, in an engaging and entertaining way. The Drum website features ABC columnists and other contributors, as well as video, blogs, polls and a 'You Said It' section. The Drum is on News 24, Monday to Friday at 6pm (AEST) is repeated at 10pm and is available on iview.

The Quarters

The Quarters represent a family of genre-based programs that are at 6.45pm (AEST) weekdays on ABC News 24, with encore screenings across the TV schedule. From The Arts Quarter or The Health Quarter to whatever you need to know in finance and business, The Quarters provide 15 minutes on the latest news, issues and developments in the topic that interests you. The Arts Quarter (presented by Ann-Maria Nicholson and Adrian Raschella); The Finance Quarter (Andrew Robertson), The Consumer Quarter (Simon Palan); The Weather Quarter (Jenny Woodward); The Rural Quarter (presented by various rural reporters); The Health Quarter (Sophie Scott) and The Environment Quarter (Sarah Clarke).

The World

The World is on ABC News 24 weeknights at 9pm (AEST). Presented by Jeremy Fernandez on Monday and Tuesday nights and Jane Hutcheon from Wednesday to Friday, the program brings you a complete snapshot of the day’s national and international news, with reports from the ABC’s network of reporters and international correspondents. The World offers a forum for extended news stories, interviews and insights from around the world.

The World This Week

The World This Week is on Saturdays at 7.30am and 9.30pm on ABC News 24, and Sundays at 11.30am and 7.30pm. The World This Week provides a review of the ABC’s best international news stories, presented by Tony Eastley.

The World Today

As its name implies, The World Today reports Australia's place in the world and the way that international issues affect us. Presented by Eleanor Hall, the program is broadcast around the nation at 12.10pm on ABC Local Radio and ABC Radio National. The World Today is essential listening, midway between its stable-mate programs AM and PM, by which time significant stories have developed here and overseas, particularly in Asia, the Pacific and North America.

ABC reporters around Australia and overseas correspondents file up to the minute reports, covering breaking stories and giving you all the background and analysis you'll need. The program is streamed live and podcasts, MP3s and transcripts are all available.

Weekend Breakfast

Hosted by Andrew Geoghegan and Miriam Corowa, Weekend Breakfast covers the latest news from around Australia and the world, with in-depth analysis and interviews, as well as regular news updates, sport, weather and what's happening in the arts.
