Transcript

ALI MOORE, PRESENTER: The final investigation into the $16 billion school building stimulus scheme has found most of the complaints about it were valid.

The report, ordered by the Federal Government, looked at more than 300 complaints about value for money.

It found New South Wales and Victoria were least able to deliver buildings that passed a value-for money test.

BRAD ORGILL, B.E.R TASKFORCE: The complaints that we have received by and large have been valid. There have been poor outcomes for many schools, in New South Wales and Victoria in particular. And we need to continue to work to get better outcomes and there are clear lessons for both the government and the construction industry there.

ALI MOORE: The Opposition says the report is damning, and maintains a judicial inquiry is needed to uncover waste and mismanagement.

Editor's note: (September 2) It should be noted that the 300 complaints represented just 3.5% of all the schools involved in the scheme.
