The ongoing detention of three Al Jazeera journalists in Egypt has sparked worldwide protests and a campaign for their release.The group includes Australian correspondent Peter Greste - who's now been held for more than a month. It's clear that reporting in Egypt is now an obvious risk, especially when attempting to interview voices of dissent. Last month Middle East correspondent Hayden Cooper was in Egypt to cover the country's constitutional referendum, and he sent this report about his own brush with Egyptian authorities. More

This week a preliminary hearing began involving the three teenagers charged with the murder of Australian baseballer Chris Lane in Duncan Oklahoma. One of them has become a witness for the prosecution against his co-accused, North America correspondent Michael Vincent has been at the trial. More

Australia and New Zealand are now talking about how they can help Nauru re-establish the rule of law after the country sacked and expelled its resident magistrate, Peter Law, and banned the chief justice, Geoffrey Eames, from visiting the country. Pacific correspondent Sean Dorney reports that the doctrine of the separation of powers between the executive and the judiciary is one that is not embraced wholeheartedly in some Pacific Island countries. The ABC's new correspondent in PNG got a taste of the vibrant colour and - at times - chaos of life on the road in the Land of the Unexpected. Liam Cochrane followed the PNG prime minister on an historic trip to Bougainville, an autonomous island to the east of Papua New Guinea that has been plagued by war and neglect. From baking heat to pouring rain, from being right in the thick of it to being completely left out, it was quite an initiation.
