Bradley David "Brad" Ausmus (pronounced /ˈɔːsməs/; born April 14, 1969, in New Haven, Connecticut) is a former All Star catcher in Major League Baseball, and currently a special assistant for the San Diego Padres as well as the Manager for Israel's World Baseball Classic team.

In his 18-year major league playing career with the San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers, he was a three-time Gold Glove Award winner (2001–02, 2006). He was also an All Star in 1999. He won the 2007 Darryl Kile Award "for integrity and courage," presented annually by local chapters of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) to players on the Astros and St. Louis Cardinals.

A five-time league-leader at catcher in fielding percentage, he has also led the league twice each in percentage caught stealing and in range factor, and once each in putouts and assists.

He finished his career in 2010 ranked third in major league history with 12,839 putouts as a catcher, trailing only Iván Rodríguez and Jason Kendall, seventh in games caught with 1,938, and 10th in both range factor/game (7.12) and fielding percentage (.994). He also ranked first all-time among all Jewish major leaguers in career games played (1,971), fifth in hits (1,579), and eighth in runs batted in (607; directly behind Mike Lieberthal).

Jack F. Curry (born November 25, 1964) is an American sportswriter, who is currently a commentator on the YES Network.

Until 2010, he was the national baseball correspondent for the The New York Times. Before taking over that beat, he covered the Yankees for the Times. He was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for co-writing a series on the demise of high school sports in New York in 1999.

In 2000, Curry co-wrote a book with Derek Jeter titled Life You Imagine: Life Lessons for Achieving Your Dreams. The book was a N.Y. Times best-seller.^{[citation needed]}

Curry is a frequent guest on local New York sports programs such as the YES Network's "Yankees Hot Stove" and WFAN's "Mike and the Mad Dog" radio program. He has been seen nationally on networks such as ESPN and MSNBC.

Curry currently works for the YES Network.

Curry graduated from Hudson Catholic Regional High School in Jersey City. Becoming an alumnus of 1982, Curry was invited to a Hudson Catholic event on May 12 as a guest speaker.

Curry earned a bachelor's degree in Communications from Fordham University in 1986. Curry and his wife Pamela reside in River Vale, New Jersey.

Justin Brooks Verlander (born February 20, 1983) is an American professional baseball pitcher with the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball.

In 2006, he was named the American League Rookie of the Year. On June 12, 2007, he pitched a no-hitter—the first ever at Comerica Park—against the Milwaukee Brewers, striking out 12 batters and walking four. He pitched a second no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays on May 7, 2011, in Toronto, walking one and facing the minimum 27 batters. On November 15, 2011, Verlander was named the 2011 AL Cy Young Award winner by a unanimous vote, becoming the first American League pitcher since Johan Santana in 2006 to win the award in such a fashion. On November 21, 2011, Verlander was voted the AL MVP, winning with 280 points over Jacoby Ellsbury's 242, completing a sweep of the Cy Young Award and MVP, a rare feat for a pitcher in the modern era.

His father Richard, who was president of the local Richmond, Virginia chapter of the Communications Workers of America, sent Justin to The Richmond Baseball Academy. Justin clocked 84 mph (135 km/h) shortly after joining the academy. His velocity kept climbing, and hit 86 MPH by the time he entered Goochland High School. He had been a top pitching prospect in high school, but his career suffered a setback when he came down with strep throat early in his senior season of baseball. A weakened Verlander topped out at 81 during that season, causing professional scouts to lose interest. After he recovered, his velocity reached 87 during his first year at Old Dominion.
