Filmed on just its second day in regular operation, Thanksgiving Day 2013, I bring to you Vail's newest chairlift and first high speed six pack, the Mountaintop Express. This is just the second high speed six pack in Colorado to be constructed by Doppelmayr (the other is the Purgatory Village Express at Durango Mountain Resort in the far southwest corner). It is also one of the shortest, at 15 towers and 92 chairs. Therefore, this is the first Doppelmayr high speed six pack I've filmed. The other high speed six packs that I have filmed or will film were all built by Leitner-Poma, which are: the Quicksilver SuperChair, the Independence SuperChair, the Kensho SuperChair, the Super Bee, the Ruby Express lift, and the Christie Peak Express lift. The chairs do not feel any different from the high speed quad that was replaced, as Doppelmayr constructed that lift. However, it feels different from the original because the chairs run clockwise, whereas the original quad ran anticlockwise like the Wildwood Express lift does. The new lift's bottom terminal is about 90 feet east of the original lift's terminal and you can sort of see the original terminal site in the beginning of this video. The upper terminal is in the same location as the original. Admittedly it does seem kind of unusual when you are crossing over the iconic cliff halfway up the lift. The queue lines are reconfigured as you can see from this video due to the 90 degree loading and the lift's orientation being reversed. With the original lift, there were two lift mazes. One started next to the uphill-line side queues for the Wildwood Express, and another starting on the downhill side of the quad's terminal, about where the current lift begins. Today, both of the Mountaintop Express lift's queues start adjacent to the Wildwood Express lift's queue lines. It can be confusing on the north set of queues because there are no banners to tell which lines are for which lift. However, on the south set of queues, they had directional signs to tell you which lines were for the Wildwood Express and which were for the Mountaintop Express. Also a first for any high speed quad or six pack in Colorado is the loading carpet. Vail did it this way to maximize efficiency and hopefully minimize stops and slows because the Mountaintop Express is one of the most important chairlifts on the mountain, as skier traffic utilizes it to transition from the west and central Front Side to the east Front Side (Northeast Bowl and Highline), all of the Back Bowls, Two Elk Lodge, and Blue Sky Basin.

Plot
Dr. Tom Reynolds (Jon Hall) returns to Africa, where he was born of missionary parents, to do research on medicines that are reputed to keep a "White Goddess" (Millicent Patrick) eternally young. With his friend Howard Ogden (Ray Montgomery) and his guide Charley Smart (James Fairfax), Tom rescues Trudy Vantyne (M'Liss McClure), a trader's daughter, from savages who capture and hypnotize her, planning to make her a rival White Goddess. Two escaped convicts, Atkins (Lucien Prival) and Vail (Robert Williams) persuade the White Goddess, in reality the wife of another escapee, to flee with the tribal riches, but all three are killed trying to escape.

Plot

Plot
Bored with her work in an insurance office and wishing for a singing career, Marge Dexter ('Joan Woodbury' (qv)), goes to the Royal Beach Club for an interview with the owner, Marty Davis ('Bradley Page'). Waiting in his office she sees Davis wounding by a rival gangster, who is killed on the street thirty minutes later. Davis is arrested for the murder but Marge proves his alibi and the grateful gangster offers Marge a chance to sing in his club, and assigns "Gashouse' ('Harry Parke' (qv), as Parkyakarkus) as her bodyguard. Police Inspector Wayland isn't convinced that Davis is totally innocent, and he assigns two officers who also play in the police band, Pete Cooper ('Allan Lane (I)' (qv))and Riley ('Gordon Jones (I)' (qv))to get work in the nightclub's orchestra and keep their eyes. Pete keeps his eyes mostly on Marge.

This is just the second high speed six pack in Colorado to be constructed by Doppelmayr (the other is the Purgatory Village Express at Durango Mountain Resort in the far southwest corner). It is also one of the shortest, at 15 towers and 92 chairs. Therefore, this is the first Doppelmayr high speed six pack I've filmed. The other high speed six packs that I have filmed or will film were all built by Leitner-Poma, which are: the Quicksilver SuperChair, the Independence SuperChair, the Kensho SuperChair, the Super Bee, the Ruby Express lift, and the Christie Peak Express lift.
The chairs do not feel any different from the high speed quad that was replaced, as Doppelmayr constructed that lift. However, it feels different from the original because the chairs run clockwise, whereas the original quad ran anticlockwise like the Wildwood Express lift does. The new lift's bottom terminal is about 90 feet east of the original lift's terminal and you can sort of see the original terminal site in the beginning of this video. The upper terminal is in the same location as the original. Admittedly it does seem kind of unusual when you are crossing over the iconic cliff halfway up the lift.
The queue lines are reconfigured as you can see from this video due to the 90 degree loading and the lift's orientation being reversed. With the original lift, there were two lift mazes. One started next to the uphill-line side queues for the Wildwood Express, and another starting on the downhill side of the quad's terminal, about where the current lift begins. Today, both of the Mountaintop Express lift's queues start adjacent to the Wildwood Express lift's queue lines. It can be confusing on the north set of queues because there are no banners to tell which lines are for which lift. However, on the south set of queues, they had directional signs to tell you which lines were for the Wildwood Express and which were for the Mountaintop Express.
Also a first for any high speed quad or six pack in Colorado is the loading carpet. Vail did it this way to maximize efficiency and hopefully minimize stops and slows because the Mountaintop Express is one of the most important chairlifts on the mountain, as skier traffic utilizes it to transition from the west and central Front Side to the east Front Side (Northeast Bowl and Highline), all of the Back Bowls, Two Elk Lodge, and Blue Sky Basin.

The Town of Vail is a Home Rule Municipality in Eagle County, Colorado, United States. The population of the town was 4,589 in 2005. The town was established and built as the base village to Vail Ski Resort, with which it was originally conceived. Vail Ski Resort's first season was in December, 1962 and it is the second largest ski mountain in North America (after Whistler Blackcomb).
Vail was incorporated in 1966, four years after the opening of Vail Ski Resort. The ski area was founded by Pete Seibert and local rancher Earl Eaton in 1962, at the base of Vail Pass. The pass was named after Charles Vail, the highway engineer who routed U.S. Highway 6 through the Vail Valley in 1940, and eventually became Interstate 70. Seibert, a New England native, served in the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division during World War II, which trained at Camp Hale, 14 miles south of Vail between Red Cliff and Leadville. He was wounded in Italy at the Battle of Riva Ridge but went on to become a professional skier after he recovered.
