Mirza Ghalib (Urdu: مرزا غالب) born Mirza Asadullah Beg Khan (Urdu/Persian: مرزا اسد اللہ بیگ خان), on 27 December 1797 – died 15 February 1869),  was a classical Urdu and Persian poet from Mughal Empire during British colonial rule.He used his pen-name as Ghalib (Urdu/Persian: غالب, ġhālib means dominant) and Asad (Urdu/Persian: اسد, 'Asad' means lion). His honour title was Dabir-ul-Mulk, Najm-ud-Daula. During his lifetime the Mughals were eclipsed and displaced by the British and finally deposed following the defeat of the Indian rebellion of 1857, events that he wrote of. Most notably, he wrote several ghazals during his life, which have since been interpreted and sung in many different ways by different people. He is considered, in South Asia, to be one of the most popular and influential poets of the Urdu language. Ghalib today remains popular not only in India and Pakistan but also amongst diaspora communities around the world.

Mirza Ghalib is also known as the last great poet of the Mughal Era.

Chitra Singh (née Dutta) is a renowned Indian Ghazal singer. She was married to Jagjit Singh, a prominent Ghazal singer who died on October 10 2011. They formed a highly popular duet team and are considered pioneers of modern Ghazal singing.^{[citation needed]}

Chitra Dutta was born in a Bengali family. She had no formal musical training, but had strong roots of music in her family. She learned much of her music by listening to her mother's music teacher. She had a daughter, Monica (from her previous marriage) who committed suicide in 2009. Jagjit and Chitra's only son Vivek died in an accident in July 1990. Chitra stopped singing after this.

Chitra Singh met Jagjit Singh in Mumbai (then known as Bombay), India, in the late 1960s, and they started a musical career together by singing jingles for various advertisements. Their career took off with the launching of The Unforgettables, an album with several firsts to its credit. Their public singing before large audiences revolutionized ghazal singing. Until then, ghazal singing had been confined to musical performances ("mehfils") before small audiences consisting primarily of the elite in the society.

Prof. Gopi Chand Narang (born on February 11, 1931 in Dukki, Baluchistan) is a theorist, literary critic and scholar whose perceptive writings containing the results of a focused critical acumen have helped Urduliterary criticism in getting itself extricated from the narrow confines of orthodoxy and to keep pace with modern times. Prof. Narang has made a seminal contribution in developing an epistemological and theoretical framework of literary evaluation by roping in stylistics, structuralism, post-structuralism and Eastern poetics with remarkable thoroughness and imagination. Prof. Narang writes extensively in Urdu and English with equal felicity and has been consistently working towards a well-defined congruous literary poetics fully alive to the aesthetic sensibility not only of Urdu, but of the entire body Indian literature.

Bharat Bhushan (1920–1992) was an Indian bollywood actor, scriptwriter and producer, who is best remembered for playing Baiju Bawra in the 1952 film of the same name. He was born in Meerut, and brought up in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.

His father, Raibahadur Motilal, was the government pleader of Meerut. His mother died when he was two years old. His elder brother was film producer R.Chandra, who also owned the Ideal Studio at Lucknow. Both the brothers left for Aligarh to stay with their grandfather there after their mothers death. He did his studies and took a Graduate degree from Aligarh. After this he took to acting against his father's wishes. He first went to Calcutta to join cinema and later established himself in Bombay. He married from a prominent family in Lucknow, Zamindar Raibahadur Budha Prakash's daughter Sharadha. They had two daughters, Anuradha and Aparijitha. Anuradha had polio associated complications. His wife Sharadha died of labour complications after delivering their second child in the early 60s, soon after the film Barsaat ki raat. Then, in 1967, he married actress Ratna, his co-star in the movie Barsaat Ki Raat.
