"According to the flower bee expert at Kyushu University, Osamu Tadauchi, it is a bee in the genus Amegilla, probably Amegilla florea, a rather uncommon ground nesting bee. If you do a Google image search on that scientific name, you will see an image of a bee that looks exactly like the one in your picture. It is in the family Apidae but is not a bumble bee, and yes, they are very good pollinators." Layne W
