Trevor Graham Baylis CBE (born 13 May 1937) is an English inventor. He is best known for inventing the wind-up radio. Rather than using batteries or external electrical source, the radio is powered by the user winding a crank for several seconds. This stores energy in a spring which then drives an electrical generator to operate the radio receiver. He invented it in response to the need to communicate information about AIDS to the people of Africa. He runs Trevor Baylis Brands plc, a company dedicated to helping inventors to develop and protect their ideas and to find a route to market.
Trevor Baylis was born on 13 May 1937 to Cecil Archibald Walter Baylis and Gladys Jane Brown in Kilburn, London. He grew up in Southall, Middlesex, and attended North Primary School and Dormers Wells Secondary Modern School.
His first job was in a Soil Mechanics Laboratory in Southall where a day-release arrangement enabled him to study mechanical and structural engineering at a local technical college.
England Head Coach Trevor Bayliss reflected on a heartbreaking defeat in Dubai where his side battled hard on the fifth day before being bowled out with 6.3 overs remaining. England's valiant effort was built around Adil Rashid's four-hour long innings of 61 - a performance Bayliss described as 'outstanding'. The coach looked ahead to the third and final Test and added that changes will be considered. This is the official channel of the ECB. This scene was set up by and animated by myself, Trevor Baylis. Later I did the initial light setups and render testing. It contains various assets from the other artists of the VFX Team including rigs in the cranes from myself and rigs in the Valkyries by Risto Puukko. It was not done in Lightwave in any way. This is a Maya scene and playblast. The Valkyries were originally worked on by Janne Suhonen. Another artist Lassi Alto was initially involved during earlier developments of the Valkyrie. All other Valkyries are derivatives of this work. ;) Any images elsewhere shown - Including so called 'concept art', anywhere, are derivatives of this initial scene which underwent various revisions by Trevor Baylis before appearing as a finished article in the film. Esther Rantzen's daytime programme produced an Invention Special. Many well-known, and some not so familiar, inventors were featured - including; Sir James Dyson, Sir Clive Sinclair, Trevor Baylis etc. Peter Knight and David Wardell were in the studio audience as Inventors World magazine had provided most of the inventors featured. The BBC has strange rules about 'product placement' so they wouldn't give us a credit - even though Dyson, Flymo and Black and Decker were all mentioned in the programme. In a strange coincidence, Peter Knight (prominently seated behind Sir Clive Sinclair) is sat with our old friend, George Hamlyn of the Patent Office. Both Peter and George are sadly no longer with us, having both died far too young. A tragic loss.
