The plug-in hybrid, mid-engine hypercar: The Porsche 918 Spyder. Tested by /DRIVE's Chris Harris at the Valencia circuit in the winter of 2013. The Porsche 918 Spyder has come a long way since when we first saw it at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010. Competing against the Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1, it is the cheapest of the trio of new hypercars at a base price of $845,000. The engine weights 140 kg according to Porsche and it delivers 608 horsepower (453 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 528 N·m (389 lbf·ft) of maximum torque. This is supplemented by two electric motors delivering an additional 279 hp (208 kW) - One 154 hp electric motor drives the rear wheels in parallel with the engine and also serves as the main generator.

As the first vehicle to boast global road homologation, the Porsche 918 Spyder has conquered the 20.6-kilometre lap around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in less than seven minutes. Achieving a time of exactly six minutes and 57 seconds, the super sportscar equipped with a hybrid drive shaved 14 seconds off the previous record. Wolfgang Hatz, member of the Porsche AG Board of Management in charge of Research and Development, had the following to say: "We promised a great deal with the 918 Spyder, namely to redefine driving pleasure, efficiency and performance. We have kept our word." The record, which was previously held for four years, was even broken during the first attempt in the test drive on the morning of September 4. All three drivers -- Former European Rally Champion Walter Röhrl, Porsche test driver Timo Kluck and Porsche factory driver Marc Lieb -- were quicker than the existing record with each lap driving the two 918 Spyder models used, and posted lap times of less than seven minutes on numerous occasions. Ultimately, it was Marc Lieb who posted the absolute best time of 6.57 minutes, driving at an average speed of 179.5 km/h, as measured by Wige Solutions. Marcus Schurig, editor-in-chief of sportscar magazine "sport auto", was on hand as an objective observer of the record-breaking runs. The two sportscars, which deliver an output of 887 bhp (652 kW), were equipped with the optional "Weissach package" to increase the driving dynamics, and lead out on the standard Michelin tyres developed specifically for the 918 Spyder. Xalapa, Ver., 06 de septiembre de 2013.- La delegación federal de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Social (Sedesol), a través del Sistema Estatal para el Desarrollo Integral de la Familia (DIF), entregó recursos por 10 millones 918 mil 404 pesos a beneficiarios del programa Opciones Productivas, para impulsar 63 proyectos productivos económica y ambientalmente sustentables en zonas rurales de toda la entidad. Dichos proyectos se pondrán en marcha en 29 municipios de todas las regiones de la entidad y consisten en la cría y engorda de ganado lanar y porcino, siembra de maíz mejorado, instalación y ampliación de apiarios para la producción de miel, equipamiento de cocinas económicas, producción y comercialización de hortalizas, instalación de tienda de abarrotes, restaurantes, cultivo comercialización de piña, naranja y plantas ornamentales, entre otros. El secretario de Desarrollo Social, Alberto Silva Ramos, dijo que los recursos entregados serán triplicados al hacerse productivos en beneficio de las familias y comunidades; con dicha entrega "damos muestra de la vinculación entre los gobiernos del Estado y de la República, a través del programa Adelante y la Cruzada Nacional contra el Hambre, y con la población beneficiaria, en la búsqueda de mejores condiciones de bienestar para los veracruzanos en situación de pobreza". Las políticas de fomento, entre las que se incluyen los proyectos productivos, ayudan a generar oportunidades de ocupación, elevan la productividad de las personas y propician la cohesión social en las comunidades. Por ello, "apoyar y desarrollar capacidades productivas y técnicas en las familias en pobreza es la forma más efectiva para que generen ingresos y alimentos para el autoabasto, que los acerquen a mejores condiciones de vida", dijo Silva Ramos. En este sentido, el programa Opciones Productivas de Sedesol, añadió, constituye uno de los mejores instrumentos de la Cruzada contra el Hambre, ya que apoya la implementación de proyectos productivos, sustentables económica y ambientalmente, en beneficio de la población rural cuyos ingresos se encuentren por debajo de la línea de bienestar. Asimismo destacó que también el Gobierno del Estado impulsa proyectos similares, a través de la Secretaría de Desarrollo Agropecuario, Rural y Pesca (Sedarpa), el DIF Estatal y la Sedesol, dirigidos principalmente a las jefas de familia en los municipios prioritarios de la Cruzada contra el Hambre. A su vez, el subdelegado de Desarrollo Social y Humano, y Atención Ciudadana de la Sedesol federal, Ramón Alberto Reyes Viveros, dijo que con la visión de la Presidenta del DIF Estatal se ha dado otro matiz a la función pública federal, por ello, en alianza, los tres niveles de gobierno impulsan los proyectos productivos para beneficiar al núcleo familiar para el sostén de los hogares. La directora general del organismo asistencial, Astrid Elias Mansur, recordó que la instrucción del gobernador Javier Duarte de Ochoa es que los veracruzanos cuenten no sólo con programas asistenciales, sino con opciones productivas, en las que logren mejorar sus ingresos y la calidad de vida de sus familias. Con el respaldo de la señora Karime Macías de Duarte, dijo, a través del programa Proyectos Productivos se beneficia a cientos de familias. Entre los municipios que recibieron los beneficios se encuentran Álamo, Atzalan, Chicontepec, Coxquihui, La Perla, Mecayapan, Papantla, Soteapan, Tantoyuca, Tatahuicapan y Zongolica.
