Wael Ibrahim, a Syrian refugee from Homs told euronews: "We support a military strike against Syria. We want to get rid of the regime. They've used chemicals against their people, they've killed children, they've made us homeless and displaced us from our homes, and we hope they will help us to get rid of him."[referring to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad] Abu Hussein, a Syrian refugee from Deraa said: "We expect that the regime will evacuate troops from the military bases and replace them with civilians and prisoners, so we hope for a strong military strike that can paralyse the regime, Hezbollah and Iran." Um Salem, a Syrian national living in Amman said: "I don't agree with a military strike against Syria, even if the regime is guilty. We are looking for a peaceful solution, more people will be killed if they conduct a military strike, it's enough, people are homeless." Meanwhile, Israel has called up IDF reservists and deployed missile defence batteries in preparation for a possible Syrian response to an American attack. Many locals are concerned for their safety, with one, Howard Shulman saying that "there is panic because the news is that there is going to be an imminent attack either sometime today or over the weekend and no-one wants to be caught without a mask." Some beachgoers in Tel Aviv however did not seem so concerned. One surfer said that she was philosophical about the threat, and that staying away from the beach would make little difference. A surfing instructor appeared optimistic: "Well life goes on, everything is cool. The ocean is waiting for us and gas masks must wait. We have them at home but life goes on," he said. Thanks so much for your help.Since last Thursday (15 August) thousands of Syrian refugees have streamed into Iraq. UNHCR says it is witnessing a major exodus from Syria. On Saturday (17 August), an estimated 10,000 Syrians streamed across the Peshkhabour Bridge over the Tigris River, north of the Sahela crossing. Five thousand people, many who had been waiting at the border for two to three days, crossed a few days before. This influx means that 21,000 Syrians has fled to the UNHCR Kurdistan region of northern Iraq in the last four days. Adding to the 150,000 refugees already in the country. Many of the Syrian refugees said they were fleeing fighting between armed groups. They also talked about the scarcity of food, water and electricity. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Biruz Rashid, Syrian refugee: We came from Qamishly. It took us three days to get here. We are escaping an impoverished life under fire and bullets that have affected thousands of innocent people. There are no jobs, no future for our children and that is one reason we came, to change our lives. The hardships were too much bare many said. SOUNDBITE (Kurdish) Reivan Farco, Syrian refugee: We had no choice but to leave. There is no work there. I thank the President for opening the border. A frantic distribution of food ensued very telling of the days of waiting the refugees had endured. Soaring temperatures only made things more difficult. People sought refugee where ever they could find it. During the course of the day, large transport trucks were brought in by the IOM (International Organization on Migration), the national and local government to take the refugees to shelter facilities. People boarded the trucks with the few belongings they brought with them. Northern Iraq has one camp, Domiz and a second one Darashakran under construction. It is expected to open at the end of August. The influx is expected to continue. Lizzie Phelan - Syrian people support Bashar al-Assad.

"Syria is Completely Contrary to Media Depictions." The known journalist Lizzie Phelan said in an interview, that she was totally surprised upon her arrival in the Syrian capital Damascus that the situation is not like she has thought it -- based on the image presented by questionable media and journalists. Phelan mentioned the image of the media, that the situation on Syrian ground a prevailing of chaos, not safe and that the Syrian army deployed in the streets. The British journalist also mentioned that she thought, based on the sold image by international media, that the anti-government protests are being held daily and everywhere. But all these thoughts were false. That`s what this journalist sees since her arrival in Syria. Lizzie Phelan said in an interview with Syrian TV, that what she has seen during her visit to Syria until now is, that the life is still normal and that the Syrian people go to their businesses and schools in spite of some problems, of course. Phelan also stated, that the Syrian capital Damascus is still very safe and that she herself moved around in Damascus alone, also in the late hours of the night, without facing any problems, danger or to see huge anti-government protests. In this interview with Syria TV, the British journalist Phelan mentioned also the huge pro-government demonstration at the Umayyad Square in Damascus and that she really was surprised with the reality of the situation within Syria. Although she should have known this before -- considering, that she traveled to Libya while the partly faked "revolution" against the former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi (Qaddafi). Lizzie Phelan made it clear in this interview with Syrian TV, that the situation in Syria is completely different from what is being conveyed to the Western population and other countries. This again raises questions about the credibility of so-called journalists and the Muslim Brotherhood-office, based in London; some call it falsely the "Syrian Observatory for Human Rights" --useful tool for lazy journalism or even propaganda journalism. In her interview with Syrian TV, Lizzie Phelan also considered that the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad came to the Umayyad Square and talked directly to the Syrian people there. Phelan stated, that it has been very interesting for her to see President al-Assad at his direct talk to the people at this pro-government rally within the Syrian capital Damascus, because such media channels as BBC and al-Jazeera still claim that the Syrian people aren`t in support with the President Bashar al-Assad. This claim is false and far away from the truth. The huge majority of Syrian people are still in support with the government or at least, with the President Bashar al-Assad. The British journalist Lizzie Phelan seems to stay in Syria a little bit longer. Syrian President Bashar Assad warned in comments broadcast Friday April 5, 2013 that the fall of the Syrian government or the breakup of his nation will cause a "domino effect" that will fuel Middle East instability for years, in his sharpest warning yet about the potential fallout of his country's civil war on neighboring states. In an interview with the Turkish TV station Ulusal Kanal broadcast Friday, Syrian President Assad accused his neighbors of stoking the revolt against his government, saying "we are surrounded by countries that help terrorists and allow them to enter Syria." But he warned that those same countries may eventually pay a price down the road. "Everybody knows that if the disturbances in Syria reach the point of the country's breakup, or terrorist forces control Syria, or if the two cases happen, then this will immediately spill over into neighboring countries first, and later there will be a domino effect that will reach countries across the Middle East," he said. He also lashed out at Turkey's prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was a close ally of Assad before the crisis began but then turned into one of his harshest critics. "When the prime minister (Erdogan), or the government or officials get involved in shedding Syrian people's blood there is no place for bridges between me and them or the Syrian people that don't respect them," Assad said. Turkey has been one of the strongest backers of the Syrian Islamist "opposition," and has provided it with logistical support and shelter. "The Arab League lacks legitimacy. It's a league that represents the Arab states, not the Arab people, so it can't grant or retract legitimacy," he also stated in reference to the recent move by the league to give Syria's seat to the Doha coalition headed by Moaz al-Khatib. The president also used the interview to quash rumors that he had been killed by one of his guards in the capital Damascus. Asked by a journalist whether he is still alive, Assad told Ulusal Kanal: "I am present in front of you and not in a shelter. These are mere rumors." This brings the US in line with its allies, including Britain, France and several Arab states. "We've made a decision that the Syrian Opposition Coalition is now inclusive enough, is reflective and representative enough of the Syrian population that we consider them the legitimate representative of the Syrian people in opposition to the Assad regime," Obama said in an interview with ABC. The recognition marks a major boost for the Syrian rebels seeking to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad. "Obviously, with that recognition comes responsibilities," Obama said in the interview on Tuesday. "To make sure that they organize themselves effectively, that they are representative of all the parties, that they commit themselves to a political transition that respects women's rights and minority rights." government. Russia is "surprised" by the US move, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented on Wednesday. He said that Washington is apparently betting on a military victory for the Syrian rebels, which goes against the Geneva agreement -- the international roadmap for a peaceful solution to the crisis. The recognition comes after the US Department of State declared a key Syrian rebel group -- al-Nusra Front -- a terrorist organization. The move was taken despite the group's success in fighting the Assad regime and protecting rebel strongholds. The rebel group has been blacklisted for the alleged links it has to Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI). US officials have expressed concern that al-Qaeda loyalists and radical Islamists are planning to take control of the opposition movement and influence any post-Assad government. The al-Nursa Front, which is believed to have 6 to 10 thousand militants in its ranks, is defiant towards the Syrian Opposition Coalition, also known as Syrian National Coalition. The body was formed after a conference in Doha in mid-November and has since been recognized as a legitimate representative of the Syrian people by the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, France, Turkey, Italy, the EU and now the US. The news comes as a group called Friends of Syria are set to meet in Morocco on Wednesday. The meeting of the international collective formed by the US may be missed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton due to urgent health issues. The group is to discuss how the participating countries can bolster the Syrian Opposition Coalition and provide humanitarian relief for Syria.

(CBS News) Appearing Sunday on "Face the Nation," Charlie Rose for the first time discussed sitting down with President Bashar Assad for his only television interview since President Obama asked Congress to approve a military strike against Syria. Speaking with Bob Schieffer, the "CBS This Morning" co-host previewed the interview - held Sunday at the Presidential Palace in Damascus - which is Assad's first with an American TV network in nearly two years. Rose reported the Syrian leader addressed allegations that his regime used chemical weapons against his own people. Excerpts from Rose's interview with Assad will air at 7 a.m. EDT on "CBS This Morning." The interview will air in its entirety Monday night on "The Charlie Rose Show" on PBS. Full coverage of the Syria crisis Assad has given very few interviews with foreign news outlets since the war-torn country's two-year conflict began. His last was with France's Le Figaro newspaper, which ran Sept. 2, just as France began seriously debating whether to support a U.S. call for intervention in Syria.
