In many countries, a Mayor (from the Latin māior, meaning "greater") is the highest ranking officer in the municipal government of a town or a large urban city.

In many municipal systems the mayor serves as chief executive officer and/or ceremonial official of many types of municipalities. Worldwide, there is a wide variance in local laws and customs regarding the powers and responsibilities of a mayor, as well as the means by which a mayor is elected or otherwise mandated.

In England, the mayor is the later descendant of the feudal lord's bailiff or reeve (see borough). The chief magistrate of London bore the title of portreeve for considerably more than a century after the Norman Conquest. This official was elected by popular choice, a privilege secured from King John. By the beginning of the twelfth century the title of portreeve gave way to that of mayor as the designation of the chief officer of London. The adoption of the title by other boroughs followed at various intervals. In the 19th century, in the United Kingdom, the Municipal Corporations Act 1882, Section 15, regulated the election of mayors. He was to be a fit person elected annually on 9 November by the council of the borough from among the aldermen or councillors or persons qualified to be such. His term of office was one year, but he is eligible for re-election. He may appoint a deputy to act during illness or absence, and such deputy must be either an alderman or councillor. A mayor who was absent from the borough for more than two months becomes disqualified and vacates his office. A mayor was ex officio a justice of the peace for the borough during his year of office and the next year. He received such remuneration as the council thought reasonable. These provisions have now been repealed.

Robert Bruce "Rob" Ford (born May 28, 1969) is a Canadian politician and businessman. He is the 64th and current Mayor of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was first elected to city council in the 2000 Toronto municipal election, and was re-elected to his council seat in 2003 and again in 2006. Ford was elected Mayor in the 2010 mayoral election, and took office on December 1 of that year. Ford's father Doug Ford, Sr. was also a politician and his brother Doug is a Toronto city councillor.

Born in Etobicoke, Ford is the youngest of four children of Diane and Doug Ford, Sr.. Ford Sr. was the founder of DECO Labels and Tags, which makes pressure-sensitive labels for plastic-wrapped grocery products at an estimated $100 million in annual sales. Ford Sr. later became a Member of the Ontario Legislature in the Progressive Conservative government of Mike Harris. Not long after Rob Ford's birth in 1969, the success of the family business allowed the family to build a six-bedroom home in Etobicoke, which has a full-sized swimming pool and gardens that can host nearly a thousand visitors.

Tavis Smiley (pronounced /ˈtævɨs/; born September 13, 1964) is a talk show host, author, liberal political commentator, entrepreneur, advocate and philanthropist. Smiley was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and grew up in Kokomo, Indiana. After attending Indiana University, he worked during the late 1980s as an aide to Tom Bradley, the mayor of Los Angeles. Smiley became a radio commentator in 1991, and starting in 1996, he hosted the talk show BET Talk (later renamed BET Tonight) on BET. Controversially, after Smiley sold an exclusive interview of Sara Jane Olson to ABC News in 2001, BET declined to renew Smiley's contract that year. Smiley then began hosting The Tavis Smiley Show on NPR from 2002 to 2004 and currently hosts Tavis Smiley on PBS on the weekdays and "The Tavis Smiley Show" from PRI. In 2010 Smiley and Dr. Cornel West have joined forces for their own radio talk show, Smiley & West. They were featured together interviewing musician Bill Withers in the 2009 documentary film Still Bill.

Eric Michael Garcetti (born February 4, 1971) is an American municipal politician. He is a member of the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 13th District. He served as Council President from 2006 to 2012. He is the son of the former Los Angeles County District Attorney Gil Garcetti. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

Garcetti was born in Los Angeles. His father is of Italian and Mexican descent and his mother, Sukey Roth, is of Russian Jewish descent. Garcetti attended elementary school at the UCLA Lab School (formerly Corinne A. Seeds University Elementary School), junior high and high school at Harvard-Westlake School and received a B.A. from Columbia University as a John Jay Scholar. At Columbia, he served on the Student Council, was President of the St. Anthony Hall literary society, founded the Columbia Urban Experience, and co-wrote and performed in three years of the Varsity Show, a student-written musical, whose past co-writers include Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, and Lorenz Hart. Garcetti also received a Masters of International Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. He studied as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University and also studied at the London School of Economics.

Don Miguelo is a Dominican rapper in the Reggaeton genre. He became famous with his smash hit "La Cola De Motora" and "Ay Que Tu Quiere". He has recently traveled to the United States in hopes that his new album will be an even better seller than before. He is currently with a beautiful Dominican woman, Paola Cristal Terrero Arias, also in the music industry, a dancer for a local T.V. show in the capital of the Dominican Republic and together they have one child. He is currently very popular and just won an award at the "Casandras" (Latin kind of Grammys).

Don Miguelo is a new singer in the Dominican Republic and he is from San Francisco De Macoris. Despite his lack of experience, he has already enjoyed some measure of success with his first hit song “Que Tu Quieres” better known as “ La Cola De Motora” “Contra El Tiempo” is his first album, and it contains “Ay Que Tu Quieres”, “Acelerao Y Pico”, “El Ponchao”, and several other songs. This disc was mixed and created in the Dominican Republic and includes the work of Rafy Mercenario, Frank Reyes and Monchy & Alexandra.
