When the Corrado burst on the scene in the late 80’s I was a massive VW fanboy, but even I was left scratching my head on this one. This car, that looked like a mk2 Golf, from memory, was being sold for more than £20,000 ($27,000 USD, €22,000, $36,500 AUD)! That thousands more than the Scirocco that I occasionally got to drive and adored. And with the same engine shoehorned into a Golf, the Corrado wasn’t any quicker. Just who was the car aimed at? Volvo owners who wanted a boxy sports car?

While we were hanging out at Wookies in the Woods (an annual gathering of Volkswagen .:R32 and Golf R enthusiasts from all over the country at the Tail of the Dragon) we came across Danny's VR6 Swapped Corrado. There is no shortage of VR6 swapped cars at Wookies, but when Danny told us had actually AWD Swapped his car as well, we were really interested. Then he told us he drove all the way from California... 35 HOURS AWAY... We had to grab our cameras and let him tell his story!

Corrado (film)
Corrado (also known as Bad Ass) is 2010 film starring Tom Sizemore, Johnny Messner, Candace Elaine, and Edoardo Ballerini.
Plot
Corrado is the story of a Los Angeles hit man of the same name. Corrado (Messner) is given the task of eliminating the aging kingpin Vittorio Spinello. He readily accepts the job and is about to perform the hit when he is interrupted by Spinello's new nurse, Julia (Elaine). He shoots the aging Spinello by accident, instead of suffocating him as intended, and flees the scene. Julia is wrongly blamed for the death, and is herself about to be killed by Vittorio's son Paolo (Sizemore), when Corrado rescues her. They are then pursued all over Los Angeles by Paolo and his goons in a bid to escape.

When the Corrado burst on the scene in the late 80’s I was a massive VW fanboy, but even I was left scratching my head on this one. This car, that looked like a mk2 Golf, from memory, was being sold for more than £20,000 ($27,000 USD, €22,000, $36,500 AUD)! That thousands more than the Scirocco that I occasionally got to drive and adored. And with the same engine shoehorned into a Golf, the Corrado wasn’t any quicker. Just who was the car aimed at? Volvo owners who wanted a boxy sports car?
So just why did this car come about, and what’s the Corrado’s legacy?

While we were hanging out at Wookies in the Woods (an annual gathering of Volkswagen .:R32 and Golf R enthusiasts from all over the country at the Tail of the Dragon) we came across Danny's VR6 Swapped Corrado. There is no shortage of VR6 swapped cars at Wookies, but when Danny told us had actually AWD Swapped his car as well, we were really interested. Then he told us he drove all the way from California... 35 HOURS AWAY... We had to grab our cameras and let him tell his story!
