My diploma work. Introduction text- ''Units of the Transcaucasia Metallurgical Plant named after Joseph Stalin are spread across a vast territory in Rustavi. This major enterprise in heavy industry, which came into operation as a result of the first five-year plan, is famous throughout the whole country. Products with the "ZMZ" mark are of very high quality and widely used in the national economy. The plant is equipped with modern technology manufactured in the USSR. All the work in the factory is done by machinery; the qualified workers are there to merely guide it. The staff of the plant collectively strives for the best quality products. Even before the launch, numerous applications from members of the Komsomol from various cities across Georgia poured into the factory. Young patriots were sent for training to metallurgical enterprises in Donbas, Stalingrad, Magnitogorsk, and Taganrog. Having acquired the skills of working with this advanced machinery, all of them have become the leading workers in the industry. Russian magazine Smena, November 1954, issue 660, p. 8. Rustavi is the fourth-largest city in Georgia, situated 27 km southeast of the capital, Tbilisi, with a population of about 120,000 people. The history of Rustavi is considered to have two phases: an early period from ancient times until the city was destroyed in the 13th century, and a modern period since 1948 until the present day. During the second half of the 20th century Rustavi was hastily rebuilt as a key industrial centre. The core of the city was the Rustavi Metallurgical Plant, which, next to other 90 large and medium sized factories, played a key role in supplying the Transcaucasia region with steel. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, almost all plants were shut down, unemployment reached 65 percent, and crime and poverty surged. Recently two large plants have reopened: the Rustavi Metallurgical Plant (renamed as Georgian Steel) and Geosteel, owned and managed by British-Georgian and Indian-Georgian private companies respectively. ''What the hell brought you here?'' was a question I was repeatedly asked by people in Rustavi, whom I met in the streets of this city. The question was a reaction, and revealed the attitude of people about their own surrounding, rather than a genuine curiosity about my project. During the shooting I perceived Rustavi as a dead city, not in the sense that people can't live there, but because it feels as a cemetery of an ideological myth that served as a purpose to build it. Rustavi is like a theatrical décor without a viewer; a shop of second-hand clothes in a rusty garage, sheep pasturing on a football field, an airplane turned into a kindergarten. On the surface those sites seem humoristic but when one looks at the context and sees the full picture, those unusual, odd momentums reveal something dramatic: a struggle of an average inhabitant of this city to keep on living. Mammad Amin Rasulzadeç Məmməd Əmin Rəsulzadə Mammad Amin Rasulzade (Azerbaijani: Məmməd Əmin Rəsulzadə, Turkish: Mehmet Emin Resulzade,Persian: محمدامین رسولزاده; born in January 31, 1884, Novxanı, near Baku— died March 6, 1955, Ankara) was an Azerbaijani statesman, scholar, public figure and the first and only president of Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan (1918--1920). His expression "Bir kərə yüksələn bayraq, bir daha enməz!" ("The flag once raised will never fall!") has become the motto of the independence movement in Azerbaijan in the 20th century. Mammad Amin Rasulzade received his education at the Russian-Muslim Secondary School and then at the Technical College in Baku. In his years of study he created "Muslim Youth Organisation Musavat", first secret organisation in Azerbaijan's contemporary history, and beginning from 1903 Rasulzade began writing articles in various opposition newspapers and magazines. At that time, his anti-monarchist platform and his demands for the national autonomy of Azerbaijan, aligned him with Social Democrats and future Communists. In 1904 he founded the first Muslim social-democrat organisation "Hummet" and became editor-in-chief of its newspapers, "Takamul"(1906--1907) and "Yoldash"(1907). Rasulzade also published many articles in non-partisan newspapers such as "Hayat", "Irshad" and also "Fuyuzat" journal. His dramatic play entitled "The Lights in the Darkness" was staged in Baku in 1908. In 1909, under the persecution from Tsarist authorities, Rasulzade fled Baku to participate in the Constitutional Revolution of 1905-1911. While in Iran, Rasulzade edited Iran-e Azad newspaper, became one of the founders of Democratic Party of Iran and began publishing its newspaper Iran-e Now which means "New Iran" and which has been described as "the greatest, most important and best known of the Persian newspapers, and the first to appear in the large size usual in Europe". In 1911, Rasulzade also published his book "Saadet-e bashar" ("Happiness of Mankind") in defence of the revolution. After Russian troops entered Iran in 1911 and, in cooperation with British, assisted Qajar Court to put an end to Iranian Constitutional Revolution, Rasulzade fled to Istanbul, then capital of Ottoman Empire. Here, in the wake of Young Turk Revolution, Rasulzade founded a journal called Türk yurdu (The Land of Turks), in which he published his famous article "İran Türkleri" ("The Iranian Turks"). After the Amnesty Act of 1913, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, Rasulzade returned to Baku, left the Hummet party he was previously member of, and joined the then secret Musavat (Equality) party in 1913, established in 1911. In 1915 he started to publish party's newspaper "Açıq Söz" (Open word) which lasted till 1918. When February Revolution happened, Musavat together with other secret political parties in Russian Empire quickly legalized and became a leading party of Caucasian Muslims after it merged with Party of Turkic Federalists headed by Nasib Yusifbeyli. October revolution in 1917 lead to secession of Transcaucasia from Russia and Rasulzade became head of Muslim faction in the Seym, parliament of Transcaucasian Federation. After the dissolution of the Transcaucasian Federation Muslim faction re-organized into Azerbaijani National Council, whose head Rasulzade was unanimously elected in May 1918. On May 28, 1918, the Azerbaijani National Council, headed by Rasulzade, declared an independent Azerbaijan Republic. Rasulzade also initiated the establishment of Baku State University together with Rashid Khan Gaplanov, minister of education with the funding of oil baron Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev in 1919. Rasulzade taught Ottoman literature at the University. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Subscribe on Youtube/Подписывайтесь на Ютубе: http://www.youtube.com/user/HaciChelebi http://www.youtube.com/user/BakuAndAzerbaijanRU On Facebook/На Фейсбуке: https://www.facebook.com/NagornoKarabakhAZ On Twitter/ В Твиттере: https://twitter.com/NagorNKarabakh Live Journal / На ЖЖ: http://NagornoKarabakh.livejournal.com/ VKontakte/ В Контакте: http://vk.com/NagornoKarabakh Odnoklassniki /Одноклассники http://www.odnoklassniki.ru/NagornoKarabakhAZ- published: 31 Jan 2014

Zen Yoga with a Pallas Cat
A Pallas Cat (Felis manul) at the Cat Survival Trust in Hertfordshire. These are simply beautiful animals.
The manul is scattered throughout Central Asia, from Transcaucasia and the eastern shoreline of the Caspian Sea through to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, east and central Kazakhstan, and Tibet, to the Altai, Tuva, Mongolia and Sichuan, and south to Iran, Afghanistan and east Ladak. This area comprises, steppes, deserts, rocky plateaus and treeless rocky mountainsides.
O. m. nigripectus is found in the vicinity of Kashmir. During the last glaciation Pallas's cat was found in Europe, and in Ladak they have been seen higher than 4,000 metres.
Pallas' cat feeds on mouse hares, pikas (in one study 89% of their prey items were pikas, and 4% insectivores), murines, ground squirrels, and birds. Solitary and secretive, Manuls den in the burrows of marmots and other burrowing animals. Although they are mainly nocturnal, they have been observed during the day. Male Manuls have been estimated to have home ranges of about four square kilometres.
It has been suggested that the ears of manuls evolved to be small, low set and inconspicuous, to enable them to present a low profile. This would aid stalking in open country with very little cover.
They are classified as near threatened by the IUCN.

5000 km - Baki
The main idea of the film is to depict my last expedition to Caucasus...
Baku is enormous, it never ends where your sight can reach...
It is a custom made city made specially for money makers, private manufacturers, crooks, the kings of Baku oil. Baku's wealth has always been made from oil...
In 1900 Baku provided half of the world oil production.
Empires used to compete for these lands. The border between European and the Middle East culture is here.
"This is how hell must look like" - wrote Gorky about Baku.
Azerbaijan is the most densly populated country of Transcaucasia. More than 8 million people live here, more than half of them in Baku.
Monumental architecture, millions of cars, and one very specific smell of oil in the air.
This is a police ruled city. Hundreds of police cars speed like crazy through wide streets. Policemen shout at the cars passing by.
On every corner you can find portraits of "the Sun of the Nation" - Mr. President. The President on the bus, the President on the train, the President doing shopping... The President leads this authoritative republic to the better tomorrow...
I am very curious whether the president is aware of the size of corruption ruling on the border. To enter Azerbaijan you have to bribe border guards. And everything is happening in broad daylight, no embarrassment.
On top of all that there is "the great lake" the Caspian Sea, where the oil rigs are the only shapes on the horizon...

O te ziemie rywalizowały imperia, tędy biegnie granica kultury europejskiej i bliskowschodniej...
"Tak musi wyglądać piekło" - napisał o Baku Gorki...
Azerbejdżan jest najludniejszym państwem Zakaukazia, mieszka tutaj ponad 8 mln ludzi...ponad połowa z nich mieszka w Baku...
Monumentalna architektura, miliony samochodów i jeden charakterystyczny zapach nafty w powietrzu.
By wjechać do Azerbejdżanu trzeba zapłacić łapówkę pogranicznikom, a wszystko na widoku, bez ściemy...
Do tego wszystkiego "wielkie jezioro", zwane Morzem Kaspijskim, gdzie jedynym widokiem na horyzoncie są szyby naftowe...
