Thousands have been forced to evacuate in East Java, Indonesia as Mount Kelud volcano has started spewing lava into the air. Clouds of volcanic ash have forced the closure of three international airports.
The 1,731-meter volcano became active at 22:50 local time Thursday, forcing authorities to issue an evacuation warning to about 200,000 people living in 36 villages within 10 kilometers of the crater.
About 90 minutes after authorities raised the alert status to the highest level, the volcano erupted, Muhammad Hendrasto, head of the country\'s volcano monitoring agency said. No casualties have so far been reported.
The eruption could be heard 130 kilometers in the country\'s second largest city Surabaya as ash covered everything within the vicinity.

President Giorgio Napolitano is now likely to ask Renzi, who is the Mayor of Florence and current Democratic Party secretary, to form what will be Italy\'s third admin...

Millions of Syrians are trapped in hard to reach or besieged areas across Syria. On Thursday, 6 February, the parties to the conflict in Syria agreed under UN auspices to a three day \'humanitarian pause\' in the Old City of Homs in order to allow the evacuation of the critically ill, women and children and the delivery of aid supplies to some 2,500 people trapped in the city for the past one year and eight months. UN agencies, including the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), working alongside the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), met the evacuees, provided them with food and medical care.

A blistering winter blizzard covered large swaths of the Northeast U.S. in snow Thursday, canceling flights, shutting down highways and prompting schools to say they\'d be closed Friday.

More than 100 million people — almost one-third of the U.S. population — was in the path of a storm that started battering the Midwest and the East Coast with snow early Thursday. By late Thursday night, the National Weather Service said 21 in. of snow had fallen in a town just north of Boston. About 18 in. fell on parts of upstate New York, and New York City was bracing for heavy snowfall overnight and into Friday morning.

Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta promised new measures to lift the economy on Tuesday, after weeks of tension over the slow pace of reform fanned speculation that he could be replaced as premier by his party leader Matteo Renzi. Renzi, who took over the center-left Democratic Party in December, has said the government would be better off calling new elections, if it is unable to push reforms more effectively, and has openly criticized his party colleague Letta. Italy, the euro zone\'s third largest economy, sorely needs reforms to emerge from its longest postwar recession and curb unemployment--which is now at its highest level since at least the 1970s. However, progress has been held up by political infighting.

Syrian Civil War 2014 - Islamic Front In Heavy Clashes In Aleppo\'s Southern Countryside |Syria War. Heavy Fighting, Firefights and Clashes between the Islamic Front and government troops supportet by shia hizbollah militias are still going on on a daily basis in Aleppo\'s Southern Countryside.

Fierce battles have taken place between Syrian Army and the Islamic battalions around al-Nairab airport in Aleppo countryside, as a result, the Syrian Army claims to have managed to advance and regain control on al-Hneifeh area.

As a result he Aleppo International Airport was targeted by the Islamic Front with Grad Rockets.

The Islamic Front itself claims to have made major advances to break the siege of Aleppo´s Marjah district by regaining full control over the villages of Al Aziza and Sheik Lutfi by clearing it from shia hizbollah presence that is using a new type of probably iranian reconnaissance drones. This drones can bee seen in the video around the 1:57 minute mark.

There are also reports of Syrian Air Force Helicopters dropping barrel bombs on rebel held areas. The Islamic Front started to use captured regime howitzers to shoot down these helicopters as you can see around 6:06 even if this tactic inst particularly promising.

During their assault in Aziza the Islamic Front managed to bomb a builing inwich Shiite militias where stationed. The builing was totaly destroyed and many causalitys on the Shiite militia site where reported.

The Attack was mainly held out by former members of the Ahrar ash-Sham Brigade and the so called Army of the Mujahideen but more islamic movements where involved in the fight.

The Islamic Front is a merger of seven rebel groups involved in the Syrian civil war that was announced on 22 November 2013.

With about 40.000 - 60.000 fighters the Islamic Front is one of the most strongest rebel fraction in the Syrian Civil War 2014.

Since 2014 there haven been also reports of fierce clashes between the Islamic Front and members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant in the same area around Aleppo\'s Southern Countryside so all in all the situation on the frontline isnt clear and it is hard to tell who is dominating the battlefield at this time because as said before the fighting goes on on a daily basis and the situation can change every hour.

2 Dead Kelud Volcano Eruption Java Indonesia Mount Kelud Forced Evacuations

  • Updated: 14 Feb 2014
Thousands have been forced to evacuate in East Java, Indonesia as Mount Kelud volcano has started spewing lava into the air. Clouds of volcanic ash have forced the closure of three international airports. The 1,731-meter volcano became active at 22:50 local time Thursday, forcing authorities to issue an evacuation warning to about 200,000 people living in 36 villages within 10 kilometers of the crater. About 90 minutes after authorities raised the alert status to the highest level, the volcano erupted, Muhammad Hendrasto, head of the country's volcano monitoring agency said. No casualties have so far been reported. The eruption could be heard 130 kilometers in the country's second largest city Surabaya as ash covered everything within the vicinity. "The rains of gravel and sand have reached 15 kilometers from the crater, hitting and impairing those being evacuated. This means that the evacuees must go farther than 15 kilometers," Umar Rosadi, a volcanologist at the national volcanology agency, told Xinhua by phone. Transport ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan said Jogyakarta, Solo and Surabaya airports were closed due to dangers to aircraft engines and by low visibility caused by the ash. Kelud is among about 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia. The last Kelud eruption was in 1990, killing more than 30 people and injured hundreds.

Kerry in China Seeking Help in Easing Tensions in N Korea, Maritime Disputes
Kerry in China Seeking Help in Easing Tensions in N Korea, Maritime Disputes
  • Order:
  • Duration: 3:12
  • Updated: 14 Feb 2014
"Kerry in China Seeking Help in Easing Tensions in N. Korea, Maritime Disputes" U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is in Beijing for talks aimed at encouraging Chinese leaders to put more pressure on ally North Korea to end its nuclear weapons program. Kerry began his visit by meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing's Great Hall of the People. He also met other senior leaders, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Afterwards, Kerry described his meeting with Xi as "very constructive" and "positive." "We hope that 2014 will be a year of concrete progress in defining the new modern relationship, managing our differences effectively, and finding a way to cooperate practically wherever possible," said Kerry. Kerry arrived in the Chinese capital early Friday from South Korea, where he met with President Park Geun-hye. The meeting came as North and South Korea held their highest-level talks in seven years. In Seoul, Kerry said China has a unique and critical role in persuading Pyongyang to resume talks on its nuclear program. He acknowledged Beijing's help in recent months, but said China can do more as the leading supplier of fuel and banking services to North Korea. The North quit the six-nation talks in 2009. It has since rebuilt some of its nuclear facilities and alarmed a host of regional and Western governments with several underground nuclear tests. Responding to Kerry's comments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said Friday that Beijing has been putting forward its "best efforts" in dealing with Pyongyang. "We have always believed the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula should be solved through the framework of the six-party talks. At the same time, we want to find a balanced solution to the legitimate and reasonable concerns of North Korea," said Hua. Kerry is also expected to raise the issue of China's maritime disputes with its neighbors, which have sent Beijing's relations with Japan and others plummeting in recent months. Washington has been critical of what it sees as China's attempts to gain control over contested parts of the East and South China Seas. Last week, U.S. officials called on China to clarify or amend its vast maritime claims, suggesting they may be inconsistent with international law. In Seoul, Kerry reiterated that the disputed East China Sea islands claimed by both China and Japan fall under a treaty obligating the U.S. to defend Tokyo in the case of an attack. The comments were certain to anger Beijing, which has encouraged the U.S. to not take sides. China has accused U.S. ally Japan of raising tensions over the islands, known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China, by purchasing them from their private Japanese owner last year. In an editorial ahead of Kerry's arrival in Beijing, the official Xinhua news agency said Washington must "press Japan to call off its provocative moves." It warned the U.S. should know that China will "not hesitate to take steps to secure its key national interests." China-Japan ties were also strained by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit late last year to a Tokyo shrine that commemorates, among other war dead, several World War II war criminals. The Asia trip is Kerry's fifth visit to the region since becoming the top U.S. diplomat last year. In addition to South Korea and China, he visits Indonesia on Saturday. In Indonesia, the last leg of Kerry's trip, he is set to deliver a major speech on climate change. Analysts think the archipelago nation is especially vulnerable to climate change. From Jakarta, Kerry heads Monday to the United Arab Emirates to meet Gulf leaders on Iran nuclear talks, Syria's civil war and Middle East peace talks. Some have accused the White House of focusing on the Middle East at the expense of its so-called economic and military "pivot" to Asia. Millions of Syrians are trapped in hard to reach or besieged areas across Syria. On Thursday, 6 February, the parties to the conflict in Syria agreed under UN auspices to a three day 'humanitarian pause' in the Old City of Homs in order to allow the evacuation of the critically ill, women and children and the delivery of aid supplies to some 2,500 people trapped in the city for the past one year and eight months. Italy PM Vows Reforms As Tensions With Renzi Grow

Italy, the euro zone's third largest economy, sorely needs reforms to emerge from its longest postwar recession and curb unemployment--which is now at its highest level since at least the 1970s. However, progress has been held up by political infighting. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/44ptwrEy7T4/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Syrian Civil War 2014 - Islamic Front In Heavy Clashes In Aleppo's Southern Countryside |Syria War. Heavy Fighting, Firefights and Clashes between the Islamic Front and government troops supportet by shia hizbollah militias are still going on on a daily basis in Aleppo's Southern Countryside. Since 2014 there haven been also reports of fierce clashes between the Islamic Front and members of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant in the same area around Aleppo's Southern Countryside so all in all the situation on the frontline isnt clear and it is hard to tell who is dominating the battlefield at this time because as said before the fighting goes on on a daily basis and the situation can change every hour.
