We have the actor who will play your band new Lex Luthor. It is official. The Social Network and Now You See Me Star Jesse Eisenberg will be playing the ultimate villain, Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman/Superman movie. But that is not all. Warner released a dual announcement also confirming that Jeremy Irons is set to play Batman's most trusted friend and mentor, Alfred. If you are watching this, the internet hasn't imploded yet, so let me get to the details before it does. I am sure many of you are asking right now, "Why Jesse Eisenberg?" Well, Snyder released a statement saying quote "Lex Luthor is often considered the most notorious of Superman's rivals, his unsavory reputation preceding him since 1940. What's great about Lex is that he exists beyond the confines of the stereotypical nefarious villain. He's a complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman. Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions." I know many of you out there will have an immediate opinion on this one, and I think it's safe to say that this casting was TOTALLY out of left field especially considering that many people, including myself, felt confident that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston was going to land the role. Or at least someone in an older age range like Joaquin Phoenix or Denzel Washington. However, with the shocking news that Ben Affleck would be playing Batman last year, we really should start expecting the unexpected when it comes to Zack Synder's Batman/Superman movie.
