A ceasefire (or truce) is a temporary stoppage of a war in which each side agrees with the other to suspend aggressive actions. Ceasefires may be declared as part of a formal treaty, but they have also been called as part of an informal understanding between opposing forces. An armistice is a formal agreement to end fighting.

During World War I, on December 24, 1914, there was an unofficial ceasefire as France, the United Kingdom, and Germany observed Christmas. No treaty was signed, and the war resumed after a few days.

In 29 November 1952, the newly U.S. president-elect Dwight D. Eisenhower, went to Korea to learn what might end the Korean War. With the United Nations' acceptance of India's proposed Korean War armistice, the KPA, the PVA, and the UN Command ceased fire with the battle line approximately at the 38th parallel. Upon agreeing to the ceasefire agreement, the belligerents established the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), which has since been patrolled by the KPA and ROKA, US, and Joint UN Commands. The Korean Demilitarized Zone runs northeast of the 38th parallel; to the south, it travels west. The old Korean capital city of Kaesong, site of the armistice negotiations, originally lay in the pre-war ROK, but now is in the DPRK. The United Nations Command, supported by the United States, the North Korean Korean People's Army, and the Chinese People's Volunteers, signed the Armistice Agreement on 27 July 1953 to end the fighting. The Armistice also called upon the governments of South Korea, North Korea, China and the United States to participate in continued peace talks. For his part, ROK President Rhee attacked the peace proceedings. The war is considered to have ended at this point, even though there was no peace treaty.

Jose Acuña Bautista (born March 8, 1927), better known as Ramon Revilla, Sr., is a Filipino actor and former Senator of the Philippines.

He already had a degree in Commerce from the Far Eastern University before he got discovered (while he was pumping gas) to appear on the big screen.

Born Jose Acuña Bautista on March 8, 1927 in Imus, Cavite. he assumed the name Ramon Revilla when he entered the movies.

In his initial showbiz entry, the young Ramon Revilla was cast only in bit roles which was not enough for him so he left the movies to become head of the Secret Service Unit of the Bureau of Customs in 1965.

Showbiz saw his return in 1972 with the movie Nardong Putik.

Like the tough guy he was, he returned to showbiz on his own terms, creating his own film production, Imus Productions, for him to star in. Together with wife Azucena, they ran the film outfit with Revilla writing and directing his films.

In 1973, Revilla won a Famas Best Actor Award for "Hulihin si Tiyagong Akyat" together with his eldest son Marlon for a Famas Best Child Actor Award of the same movie. Imus Films was also recognized as Outstanding Film production in 1975. The next year, Revilla snagged the Outstanding Producer of the Year Award. In 1979, he was Most Outstanding Actor and Box Office King. At that point, there was really no stopping his popularity.

Eddie Garcia (born Eduardo Verchez García on May 20, 1929 in Sorsogon, Philippines) popularly known as Manoy is a Filipino film actor and film director.

He served with the Philippine Scouts during World War II and was stationed as a military policeman in Okinawa before joining showbusiness.

Garcia made his first movie, Siete Infantes de Lara in 1949.

He is also known to play the part of Leandro Montemayor, the fictional Philippine President on the television drama series, "Kung Mawawala Ka" (If Ever You Were Gone), and gave him his first Best Actor in a Drama Series in the 2002 Star Awards, and is also known for portraying various roles either the main villain or the lead or supporting character. He is also known for his trademark humorous lines which he says mostly in action films or comedy films.

He also played a part as Lolo Carlos (Grandfather Carlos) in the Filipino-American film, The Debut, the Lolo Sinat (Grandfather Sinat) in the film, Deathrow, and even the villainous Judge Valderama in Kapag Puno Na Ang Salop (If the Ganta is Full) and its two sequels, opposite of Fernando Poe, Jr.

Howard Kern "Howie" Day (born January 15, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter. Beginning his career as a solo artist in the late 1990s, Day became known for his extensive touring and in-concert use of samplers and effects pedals in order to accompany himself. He self-financed and self-released his first album, Australia, in 2000.

Day eventually signed a recording contract with major label Epic Records- in 2002 and has since re-released his debut as well as producing a follow up, Stop All The World Now. Despite initially sluggish sales, Stop All The World Now was certified gold in early 2005 and has produced a number of singles, including the hits "She Says" and "Collide", Day's most successful to date. The track became Epic Records’ first platinum single, eventually selling 1.5 million downloads.

After a five year tour before the release of Stop All The World Now followed by a three year tour, Day took some time off and focused on writing music. Day released his Be There EP in May 2009 followed by Sound The Alarm, released on September 8, 2009.
