A tee (⊤, \top in TeX) is a symbol used to represent:
In Unicode the symbol is encoded U+22A4 ⊤ down tack (HTML: ⊤
).
A tee is a stand used to support a stationary ball so that the player can strike it, particularly in golf, tee ball, American football, and rugby.
The word tee is derived from the Scottish Gaelic word tigh meaning house and is related to the 'house' in curling (the coloured circles). This would make sense, as the first golf tees were within a circle of one club length round the hole. Nowadays, modern courses have separate, designated tee boxes for each hole. For example, the ninth hole of a course is played from the ninth tee to the ninth green, and similarly for the other holes.
In golf, a tee is normally used for the first stroke of each hole. The area from which this first stroke is hit is informally known as the teeing ground. Normally, teeing the ball is allowed only on the first shot of a hole, called the tee shot, and is illegal for any other shot; however, local or seasonal rules may allow or require teeing for other shots as well, e.g., under "winter rules" to protect the turf when it is unusually vulnerable. Teeing gives a considerable advantage for drive shots, so it is normally done whenever allowed. However, a player may elect to play his/her tee shot without a tee. This typically gives the shot a lower trajectory.
A symbol is something that represents an idea, a process, or a physical entity. The purpose of a symbol is to communicate meaning. For example, a red octagon may be a symbol for "STOP". On a map, a picture of a tent might represent a campsite. Numerals are symbols for numbers. Personal names are symbols representing individuals. A red rose symbolizes love and compassion.
In cartography, an organized collection of symbols forms a legend, or key.

The word derives from the Greek symbolon meaning token or watchword. It is an amalgam of syn- "together" + bole "a throwing, a casting, the stroke of a missile, bolt, beam." The sense evolution in Greek is from "throwing things together" to "contrasting" to "comparing" to "token used in comparisons to determine if something is genuine." Hence, "outward sign" of something. The meaning "something which stands for something else" was first recorded 1590, in Edmund Spenser's Faerie Queene.
Robert Henry Adams (December 14, 1921 – February 13, 1997) was a third baseman/second baseman in Major League Baseball. He played for the Cincinnati Reds & Redlegs (1946-1955), Chicago White Sox (1955), Baltimore Orioles (1956) and Chicago Cubs (1957-1959). Adams batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Tuolumne County, California.
In a 14-season career, Adams posted a .269 batting average with 37 home runs and 303 RBI in 1281 games played.
Adams started his Major League career in 1946 with Cincinnati as their regular second baseman. Despite his infield background, the next five years he served mostly as a backup for Grady Hatton (3B) and Connie Ryan (2B). Finally, Adams became the regular third baseman for Cincinnati in 1951. His most productive season came in 1952, when he led the National League in singles (152), at-bats (637) and games (154), while batting .283 with career-numbers in hits (180) and doubles (25). He also was considered in National League MVP voting.
In the 1955 midseason, Adams was purchased by the Chicago White Sox. Traded to the Baltimore Orioles before 1956, he also played for the Chicago Cubs from 1957–59, helping young infielders improve their play.
Diane Gilman (1945—1998), was a painter, potter, writer and co-founder of the Context Institute. She played a key role in the initial development and coordination of the Global Ecovillage Network, a support network for model communities to show how to live more sustainably on the planet, in urban, rural, developed and less developed situations. In 1991, she and her husband, Robert Gilman co-wrote Eco-Villages and Sustainable Communities, a seminal study of ecovillages for Gaia Trust.
Gilman attended the University of California at Santa Barbara, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Art. A professional watercolor painter and potter, she founded the Context Institute with her husband, Robert in 1979. She was Associate Publisher of In Context magazine from 1983–1995 and coordinated citizen diplomacy work with the USSR for the Institute. She and Robert Gilman co-founded the Foundation for Russian/American Economic Cooperation, in Seattle, Washington.
Gilman directed the Context Institute's Sustainable Community Program and coauthored a 1991 report on Ecovillages and Sustainable Communities around the world. The report included guidelines for the development of sustainable communities, along with case studies. Gilman co-facilitated a major Sustainable Community and Ecovillage Conference held at Findhorn, Scotland, in October 1995. This conference was instrumental in giving shape to the ecovillage movement.
The night is a symbol, senses' inspiration
He's always creeping in the gloom
While I am standing on His way
He approaches slowly and creeps to me
I recognize Him - this face and this smile
He wants to talk to me always at night
During a day I don't feel Him, can't find
The night is a symbol, senses' inspiration
He's always creeping in the gloom
While I am standing on His way
As the light vanish, he creeps seeking me
I'm ready, I'll talk, so night will pass quickly
Shivering voice trickle out of His lips
Bares my mind and extend morbid dreams
The night is a symbol, senses' inspiration
He is the child of the dark
I don't want to shelter Him
The night is a symbol, senses' inspiration
He is the child of the dark
