Seattle (i/siˈætəl/) is a West Coast seaport city and the seat of King County. With an estimated 662,400 residents as of 2015, Seattle is the largest city in both the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest region of North America. In July 2013 it was the fastest-growing major city in the United States, and remained in the top five in May 2015 with an annual growth rate of 2.1%. The Seattle metropolitan area of around 3.6 million inhabitants is the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States. The city is situated on an isthmus between Puget Sound (an inlet of the Pacific Ocean) and Lake Washington, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Canada–United States border. A major gateway for trade with Asia, Seattle is the third largest port in North America in terms of container handling as of 2015.
The Seattle area was previously inhabited by Native Americans for at least 4,000 years before the first permanent European settlers.Arthur A. Denny and his group of travelers, subsequently known as the Denny Party, arrived from Illinois via Portland, Oregon on the schooner Exact at Alki Point on November 13, 1851. The settlement was moved to the eastern shore of Elliott Bay and named "Seattle" in 1852, after Chief Si'ahl of the local Duwamish and Suquamish tribes.

Sound Transit, officially the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority, is a regional transit system serving the Greater Seattle area since September 19, 1999. It was formed in 1996 by the Snohomish, King, and Pierce County Councils. It operates express bus, commuter rail, and light rail service in the region and constructs capital projects in support and expansion of those services.
Sound Transit offers three main services. A series of express buses throughout the metro area, commuter rail lines running on existing freight rail tracks, and a light rail system.
Sound Transit Express is a network of regional express buses providing service to cities in all three counties, including Seattle, Redmond, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Issaquah, Lakewood, Bellevue, Auburn, Federal Way, Gig Harbor, Everett, Woodinville, and Tacoma. The bus fleet is owned by Sound Transit and buses are maintained and operated under contracts with local transit authorities (Community Transit, King County Metro, and Pierce Transit).
Westlake Center is a four-story shopping center and twenty-five story office tower in Downtown Seattle, Washington, USA. The southern terminus of the Seattle Center Monorail, it is located across Pine Street from Westlake Park, between 4th and 5th Avenues. It is named for Westlake Avenue, which now terminates north of the mall but once ran two blocks farther south to Pike Street. Westlake Park is considered Seattle's "town square" and celebrities and political figures often make appearances or give speeches from the building's balcony.
The structure was designed by RTKL Associats on 11,000 square meters. Opened in 1988 by The Rouse Company, since 2004 it has been owned by Real Estate Investment Trust General Growth Properties.
Surrounding the mall and park, Seattle's main shopping district draws scores of both locals and visitors (the Washington State Convention and Trade Center is located in this district). To the west of Westlake Center is the main store for Macy's Northwest (previously the flagship store and corporate headquarters for The Bon Marché). To the east is the flagship Nordstrom store and corporate headquarters (previously the flagship store of Frederick & Nelson). In the surrounding area are retailers American Apparel, American Eagle Outfitters, Abercrombie & Fitch, Adidas, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic (in the remodeled Coliseum Theater), Barneys New York, Benetton, Betsey Johnson, Brooks Brothers, Cartier, Coach, Diesel, Eddie Bauer, GAP, Gucci, Gymboree, Hot Topic, J.Crew, Kenneth Cole, Louis Vuitton, Men's Wearhouse, Nine West, The North Face, Nike Town, Old Navy, Urban Outfitters, Sunglass Hut, and Tiffany & Company are located near Westlake. Also, many upscale restaurants including Cheesecake Factory and Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, as well as the first GameWorks and Mobatta Crepes Restaurant, are nearby.
A rainy day in Seattle! So, you want to live in the US, right? Well here is a short clip of life in the big city of Seattle. It was about 48 deg on this March afternoon. The day started partly cloudy but the rains won out in the end. I tried out my wide angle lens, appears to not shoot well in a video setting. I hope you still enjoy it. The Westlake Plaza and Mall is usually a hub of activity. It is arguably the heart of downtown Seattle. You will see Macy's main store on 3rd Ave after I walk off the Westlake Mall Food Court, the new City Store on 2nd Ave close to Pike Place Market. Join the Matador Network as we explore Seattle from a local’s perspective. To get a sense of what it’s like to live in Seattle, and to see the Emerald City through the eyes of an insider, we tag along for a day in the life of Kirsten Gardner, a local tour guide who takes us on a hike and to a few of her favorit spots in the neighborhood of Ballard. Then, we follow local glass artist Preston Singletary through Pioneer Square, to grab coffee and check out some local public artworks. Finally, we’ll pop in to Green Lake for a visit with Chef Rachel Yang to see what makes Seattle a perfect place to visit with families. Each visit allows us to gain insight into why Seattle is the city with the perfect mix of both urban and the outdoor life.

This video, lasting just under 30 minutes, was taken on April 28, 2014. It originated at the corner of NE 8th & Bellevue Way in Bellevue, Washington, crossing the 520 Evergreen Point floating bridge, through downtown Seattle and on to Seatac Airport car rental return. The video was captured by simply mounting a small point & shoot camera onto the dashboard with Velcro and it worked pretty well. Unfortunately, the camera wasn't zoomed in quite enough to eliminate the dashboard being in the video, but live and learn.
