Majority of respondents (59%) surveyed in Bihar feel that BJP will get the highest number of seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. But majority of Muslim respondents feel that Congress-RJD-LJP would get highest number of seats. 25 % feel the Congress-RJD-LJP alliance will bag the maximum number of seats in the upcoming General Elections. 15 % have voted for the JD-U. 53% of respondents surveyed in Bihar feel that Lalu Prasad's RJD would be able to attract Muslim votes. 72 per cent of the overall 4518 respondents feel Nitish committed a mistake by splitting with BJP. 26 per cent say he took the correct decision. Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is the most preferred choice of the voters for the post of PM in Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. Lokniti-IBN national election tracker predicts that BJP is the leading party in Bihar and Jharkhand. In West Bengal and Odisha, the ruling regional parties - the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) - are expected to maintain their lead. The BJP is not gaining much in these two states, though Narendra Modi is ahead of others in the PM race. According to the poll, the BJP will emerge as the largest party in Bihar if Lok Sabha elections are held in January 2014. In the neighbouring states of West Bengal and Odisha, the TMC and the BJD are expected to maintain their lead. In Bihar, with 40 Lok Sabha seats, the main opposition BJP is expected to win 16-24 seats. The ruling Janata Dal (United) is expected to win just 7-13 seats while Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is likely to improve its tally by winning 6-10 seats. In The New Bihar, N.K. Singh and Nicholas Stern have put together a collection of perspective essays by eminent scholars on the emerging Bihar model of development -- its achievements, shortcomings and challenges. Eminent economists analyse the remarkable turnaround witnessed by Bihar -- Amartya Sen provides a historical background of Bihar's distinguished past, Kaushik Basu discusses the decline of Bihar in recent history and the turnaround since 2005. At least 20 people died as the Rajya Rani Express ran over them at the Dhamara station near Saharsa in Bihar on Monday morning. The death toll is expected to rise as over 40 other people were reported to be injured. Following the accident, angry villagers reportedly took the Rajya Rani Express driver hostage and lynched him to death and set two trains ablaze. However, Arunendra Kumar, Railway Board Member (Mechanical) who is holding additional charge of Chairman, Railway Board, claimed that the driver was only injured. At least 22 people are feared dead as the Rajya Rani Express ran over them at the Dhamara station near Saharsa in Bihar on Monday morning. The death toll is expected to rise. After the incident, a violent mob reportedly assaulted the train driver to death and set two trains on fire. A speeding train ploughed into pilgrims at a crowded station in Bihar this morning, killing at least 22 people, mostly women and children, and triggering mayhem at the station in the state's Khagaria district, around 160 km from Patna. After the incident, a violent mob reportedly assaulted the train driver, set coaches on fire and held railway staff hostage. Eyewitnesses also say the station has been vandalised and damaged. Many railway personnel have reportedly run away and left the station completely unmanned, say officials. Train services have now been suspended on the route. Those killed were mostly kanwarias or devotees of Lord Shiva, who were crossing the tracks at a station in Katyani Sthan, a religious stopover. They had reportedly exited another train, when the Saharsa Patna Rajyarani train crushed them. "The train was running at 80 km/hour," Minister of State for Railways, Adhir Chowdhury, told NDTV. An angry crowd reportedly threw stones at the train, which stopped at a distance, pulled out the driver and beat him to death. The mob also took some railway staff hostage and set the train on fire, along with the other train. Railway officials say the situation is volatile. District and police officials are trying to reach the spot, considered to be a remote part of the district.
