'Make the Economy Scream' Secret Documents Show Nixon, Kissinger Role Backing 1973 Chile Coup
http //www.democracynow.org - We continue our coverage of the 40th anniversary of the overthrow of Chilean President Salvador Allende with a look at the critical U.S. role under President Richard Nixon and his National Security Advisor, Henry Kissinger. Peter Kornbluh, who spearheaded the effort to declassify more than 20,000 secret documents that revealed the role of the CIA and the White House in the Chilean coup, discusses how Nixon and Kissinger backed the Chilean military's ouster of Allende and then offered critical support as it committed atrocities to cement its newfound rule. Chile to Kili: Driving change from the seat of a bicycle
The goal: Ride from Chile to Kilimanjaro
Elvis Munis, 25, of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, is bicycling around the world to raise awareness about environmental issues and funds for scholarships to support students in Africa to study resource management in college.
The distance of this trip is about 80 000kms or 50 000m and will traverse some 41 countries completely unsupported.
Elvis’s journey started in Santiago, Chile and takes him through Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Alaska, across the Bearing Sea (by any means) into Russia, Mongolia, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, across the Caspian Sea into Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and ending at the foot of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania—Elvis's home.
Elvis, and any riders who dare to join him, must locate and carry their own food, shelter, and resources throughout the trip. Most nights will be spent camping in tents or staying with local contacts.
If you’re on his route and can offer a place to stay or a hot meal, drop us a line or if you want to have a semi-real-time chat with Elvis, or just tell him "good luck", post a little something here.
Inspiration:
This ride was inspired by the Gandhi’s famous quotation- “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
This has been a long-time favorite quote of both event organizers and triggered a conversation on the shores of Zanzibar that lead to the creation of this life-altering event.
Change must come from the inside. Elvis, a 25 year old Tanzanian naturalist and student, identifies one of the major problems in his country as the lack of opportunity for Tanzanians to obtain the education necessary to manage their own natural resources. Tanzania’s economy is dependent on conservation-based tourism, yet management decisions and safari companies tend to be run by foreigners. This ride will raise awareness about the lack of educational opportunities and therefor lack of upward mobility afforded to Tanzanian citizens.
By volunteering to bike around the world in an effort to raise money for a scholarship program for conservation students like himself, Elvis truly is “being” the change he wants to see.

The Kaospilot - Paul Natorp
Paul Natorp is an educator and a social entrepreneur working with schools, universities, companies, municipalities and NGOs to develop new initiatives in education and life long learning.
---------------------------
KAOSPILOT IN BRIEF
The Kaospilots is a hybrid business and design school, a multi-sided education in leadership and entrepreneurship. Our teaching programmes are not designed simply to shape students to fit the future, but to help them create it.
They centre on students’ potential to do good and to do well – tapping into their creativity, giving it a direction, creating a setting that will get them there and navigate the uncertainties that will follow. We provide space and a place where creatives and potential change-makers can develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies they need to fulfill their values and visions. We build the frameworks within which creative minds can become creative leaders.
Over the years Kaospilots has worked with hundreds of organizations from South Korea to Chile, South Africa to Canada.
BusinessWeek has recognized The Kaospilots as one of the best design schools in the world, and Fast Company has named it in its Startup Leagues Big 10, preparing you for the fast moving startup economy.
Of the more than 600 Kaospilots graduates, one third have gone on to start companies, NGOs and other similar initiatives. Around half hold some sort of management position.
The main areas of focus at The Kaospilots are:
• Education: We exist to educate and to support educational development. Our first focus is our own programmes, through which we foster enterprising leaders, change-makers, creators and responsible entrepreneurs.
• Consulting: We help companies and organizations use business and organizational innovation to achieve their objectives.
• Culture: We promote art and artists by hosting shows, happenings, exhibitions, etc.
• Social: We build communities by using our space for everything from parties to meetings to just hanging out.

In the past five years, the globalised trend of interior design has seemingly been led by the five cities-renowned as the cities of design, including Tokyo, Paris, Milan, London and New York. At the same time, it has become a common realization of designers around the world to explore and employ the local features for each project with the advancement of economy and culture.
The book, Atlas of world Interiors, with 500 projects selected, is a detailed and comprehensive portrayal of the best and newest interior projects from 6 continents of more than 50 countries. In detail, the projects are of different styles, such as the pragmatism of North America, the naturalism of South America, the regionalism of Asia, the minimalism of North Europe and the luxurism of the Mediterranean area. In countries such as, Iran, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia and so on, the history and culture of a particular location was subtly integrated into the interior design through innovative approaches. Moreover, designers can also be inspired a lot by this book to search a balance between the overwhelmingly globalized trend and the increasingly personalized feature.
This book offers readers a visual feast with the collection of world's most classic interior projects and is categorized into 10 parts, including culture and leisure, restaurant, bar, shop and showroom, spa and fitness, hospital and pharmacy, office, teaching and research, house, hotel, transport and factory. Each project is illustrated with real photos, plans and text. In addition, each geographic region is distinguished by a different color-code. We firmly believe and hope it will serve as a source of pleasure and inspiration to all its readers.
As one of the series books Atlas of world Interiors, this book is featured with its timeliness, globalization, regionalization, and professionalization to help readers from all over the world to find inspiration, and approach new materials and the cultural heritage.

LAN Airbus-320 Economy Santiago to Calama, Chile
http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Domestic Security at Santiago Airport doesn't require passengers to take out liquids or computers, take off shoes, and was a breeze. Unlike my disappointment with Copa Airlines, LAN Airlines does a first class job in Economy. They board planes by sections beginning with the back of the plane and are very serious about it. LAN also offers a choice of meals or snacks depending on the time of day, liquid refreshments, and shows movies on individual video screens mounted in seat backs.
