INTERVIEW: Kenya's economy is robust, according to IMF
Kenya's economy is robust, but policymakers will need to keep a close eye on issues of devolution and public resource management to ensure that the country remains on its path of growth. The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, told NTV's Business Editor Wallace Kantai that 2014 is poised to be a good year for the Kenyan economy. In a wide-ranging interview, Wallace began by asking her how well Kenya's economy is doing. Kenya's economy grows at 5% in 2013
The World Bank has raised the red flag over the rate at which Government ministries are not spending monies appropriated to them for national spending. The bank's latest economic update report shows that most ministries return a sizable amount of funds allocated to them, a trend the it says will slow economic growth. The Deputy President William Ruto took on the challenge acknowledging the matter was being sorted out to avoid a slow down in the growth of the economy. Aside this, the report paints a positive outlook for Kenya as NTV's Aby Agina reports. Impact of Westgate mall attacks on Kenya's policies & economy - Part 1
www.abndigital.com Recent developments in East Africa's largest economy Kenya involving a face-off between the country's security forces and a terror group linked to Al Shabaab who held shoppers ransom in the upmarket Westgate Mall focussed attention on the ability of that government to deal with the security and geopolitical dynamics in Kenya. Many questions remain in the aftermath of the siege. ABN's Karima Brown chats to Aly-Khan Satchu, CEO, of Rich Management and Ebrahim Deen, Researcher at the Afro Middle East Institute about the implications of the attack on Kenya's policies and economy.- published: 09 Oct 2013

Skate Samaritan
In urban Nairobi, Kenya we meet up with a guy who has given up his career as an architect to follow his passion for skateboarding. Making this decision was not an easy task, considering the national economy and the fact that the skateboarding scene in Africa is not particurlarly big. Still, he is confident in his decision and keeps spreading the love that skateboarding has to offer. Who would have thought there would skateboarders in Kenya? Meet Leo Kilel.

Cleaning up Nairobi (garbage collection)
Isaac Owino tells about his garbage collection company, project CitySmile. He explains how he got into this business and how he started his company. This is part of the entrepreneurship training project.
This project aims to develop high quality learning materials for training entrepreneurship skills in Kenya.
The project focuses on two major target groups. The first group is the university student entering the Bachelor program Social Entrepreneurship at Tangaza College. The second group is the young potential entrepreneur who needs entrepreneurship skills, but is not entering formal education. This group will be trained through the Tangaza College/ Institute for Social Ministry alumni. In this way the project is looking for models to use learning environments both in the formal and in the non-formal setting.
To serve both target groups a flexible and innovative learning environment is used. The EMERGO system is a development of the Open Universiteit in the Netherlands and is available as Open Source (www.emergo.cc).
In applying state of the art e-learning tools and introduce these tools in Higher Education in Kenya as well as in training schemes for potential entrepreneurs in communities, the project is addressing the Kenya 2030 Strategic Plan and the ambition of the Kenyan Government to stimulate the knowledge economy.

Chile to Kili: Driving change from the seat of a bicycle
The goal: Ride from Chile to Kilimanjaro
Elvis Munis, 25, of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, is bicycling around the world to raise awareness about environmental issues and funds for scholarships to support students in Africa to study resource management in college.
The distance of this trip is about 80 000kms or 50 000m and will traverse some 41 countries completely unsupported.
Elvis’s journey started in Santiago, Chile and takes him through Peru, Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Canada, Alaska, across the Bearing Sea (by any means) into Russia, Mongolia, China, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, across the Caspian Sea into Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and ending at the foot of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania—Elvis's home.
Elvis, and any riders who dare to join him, must locate and carry their own food, shelter, and resources throughout the trip. Most nights will be spent camping in tents or staying with local contacts.
If you’re on his route and can offer a place to stay or a hot meal, drop us a line or if you want to have a semi-real-time chat with Elvis, or just tell him "good luck", post a little something here.
Inspiration:
This ride was inspired by the Gandhi’s famous quotation- “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
This has been a long-time favorite quote of both event organizers and triggered a conversation on the shores of Zanzibar that lead to the creation of this life-altering event.
Change must come from the inside. Elvis, a 25 year old Tanzanian naturalist and student, identifies one of the major problems in his country as the lack of opportunity for Tanzanians to obtain the education necessary to manage their own natural resources. Tanzania’s economy is dependent on conservation-based tourism, yet management decisions and safari companies tend to be run by foreigners. This ride will raise awareness about the lack of educational opportunities and therefor lack of upward mobility afforded to Tanzanian citizens.
By volunteering to bike around the world in an effort to raise money for a scholarship program for conservation students like himself, Elvis truly is “being” the change he wants to see.
