Janet Kuypers' "Periodic Table poem" "Fermium" in her Poetry Saloon at Noon show 8/28/13 {C}
On August 28th 2013 (8/28/13), Janet Kuypers was the highlighted feature with an interview and poetry for Chicago's "Poetry Saloon at Noon" event at the Lerner Auditorium at the Sulzer Public Library, where she read three of her "Periodic Table of Poetry" poems (plus few well known bonus poems, plus a song with guitarist John, covering a song she wrote in the 1990s in her acoustic alternative band "Mom's Favorite Vase", then with the guitarist Warren Peterson). This poetry reading space was designed in the greater Chicago area at lunch on a weekday, where people working in Chicago could take a break from working and come by for this feature open mic space. Many questions about her writing were asked during her interview, and because audience members could also ask questions or bring up relevant point pertaining to her interview or writings, people also discussed her involvement with women's issues (since she worled as an acquaintance rape workshop facilitator for years, and has a lot of writing about sexism and feminism), and the interview was finished with an audience question about a near-fatal accident she lived through while stopped at a car intersection, while she learned how to walk and talk and eat after almost being killed, and how all of this had an effect on her writing. During her scheduled poetry readings (performed with music in the background from the HA!Man of South Africa playing in the background, music from his 2011 Hotel music "on the lose") Janet Kuypers read her never-before-performed poems "Cesium", "Fermium" and "Polonium". Later in the event she also read "Too Far", and her last poem her read was "Death Takes Many Forms." To close off the hour John joined her with his guitar as they performed "What we Need in Life". The entire performance was recorded on a Canon camera (which Kuypers used later in the evening to video record the poetry open mic she hosts in Chicago called "the Cafe Gallery" - http://www.chaoticarts.org/thecafe, at Gallery Cabaret), but a lot of the interview time was also video recorded with a Song video camera. Also, the entire "Poetry Saloon at Noon" was captured and released as a full hour video, which also included poetry from vetted open mic readers Jenene Ravesloot and Tom Roby. You can also go to http://www.janetkuypers.com for expanded information on her writing, music or performance art (or check her out on twitter, at http://twitter.com/janetkuypers, or on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/janetkuypers, or myspace on http://www.myspace.com/janetkuypers, or even on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/ccandd96).
