Masquerade (play)

Masquerade (Russian: Маскарад) is a verse play written in 1835 by the Russian Romantic writer Mikhail Lermontov. The four-act play, set in 1830's St. Petersburg aristocratic society, highlights the rebellious spirit and noble mind of the protagonist, Yevgeny Arbenin. It is often compared with Shakespeare's Othello in its essential story line.

Plot

The hero of the drama, Arbenin, is a wealthy young man endowed with a rebellious spirit and a strong will. Born into high society, he strives in vain to gain independence and freedom. He lives by the laws of his society, and, in trying to defend his honor while blinded by jealousy and pride, ends up murdering his wife.

Act I

Act I opens with Arbenin and Prince Zvezdich playing cards. From there the pair go to a masquerade party also being attended by Arbenin's wife, Nina. Zvezdich flirts with a dissolute lady, a baroness who is a friend of Nina. But because of the masks Zvezdich does not know who she is. The mystery lady gives Zvezdich her bracelet as a memento - a bracelet that had once belonged to Nina. Arbenin later notices the bracelet missing from his wife's wrist, recalls it in Zvezdich's possession, and concludes that his wife has been cheating on him with Zvezdich.

Masquerade (theatre group)

Masquerade - the performance group is a Chennai based English theatre group. It is one of the few theatre groups in Chennai that survive without commercial financial sponsorship or funding from business houses or the likes, backed by public faith and smaller donorships from patrons, parents of tweens and teens who pay for training workshops. Public performances are rarely priced and income from performances are invariably through hat collections, done consciously as a tool to gauge audience appreciation of the show.

The group since 2000 has been extensively working with youth both at schools and through private workshops. Since 2009, through its youth & teen theatre initiative - Masquerade Youth Theatre (MYT), Masquerade has been conducting Camp Neuve - annual three week summer workshops that trains teens between 13 and 19 years. This leads to an eventual production featuring the workshop participants. Since 2009, through its The Bear and Beanbag Children's Theatre - the group is also involved in presenting story performance sessions to tweens 7 - 11 and in conducting theatre and story telling workshop for children in conjunction with hobby centers and after-school experience centers in Chennai.

Thriller (Lambchop album)

Thriller is the third full-length album by Lambchop, released in 1997.

The album title was chosen as a reference to the Michael Jackson album of the same name, one of the biggest-selling albums of all time, as an in-joke by frontman Kurt Wagner regarding the low sales of the first two Lambchop albums.

The track "Your Fucking Sunny Day" was released as a single from the album in a re-recorded "clean" version, under the title "Your Sucking Funny Day".

Three of the songs, "Hey Where's Your Girl", "Crawl Away" and "Superstar in France" are cover versions of songs from the album Poor Fricky by East River Pipe also released on Merge Records.

The sleeve is a painting by Wayne White, a childhood friend of Wagner who also provided cover art for Nixon, Aw Cmon and No You Cmon by the band.

Thriller (EP)

Thriller is the third EP released by South Korean boy band BtoB. It was released on September 9, 2013, consisting a total of 6 tracks with Thriller as title track and the promotional single of the album.

Background

On August 23, 2013, Cube Entertainment released concept pictures for "When I Was Your Man", a pre-release track from the album before the official release with a special music video for the song released a few days later. On September 4, 2013, BtoB uploaded the music video of Thriller on their official YouTube channel and on the same day they performed Thriller and When I Was Your Man on MBC's Show Champion prior to the release date of the EP.

Composition

The EP features a total of 6 tracks with 5 tracks co-written by the members of BtoB themselves and the third track of the EP titled 왜이래 (Why) was composed and co-written by label mate Beast's Lee Gi-kwang.

The EP opens with the first track When I Was Your Man, a classy and soft, laid back track. The song is about a man looking back at a past relationship, and reflecting how different he is now. The second track of the album, Thriller, a dynamic song with a story of a fallen knight coming back to life to finish their mission of saving their princess. It is a song that focuses on that rush they get as they rise from the grave. The third track Why is an R&B influenced track that tells the story of a man who has realized that his lover has no feelings left for him. The fourth track Catch Me is a song that is focused on the feelings one experiences that moment he falls in love. The fifth track Like a Crystal, is a song largely accompanied by an acoustic guitar and the last track Star is a ballad song that samples the bars of the famous nursery rhyme, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

Thriller (song)

"Thriller" is a song recorded by American singer Michael Jackson, composed by Rod Temperton, and produced by Quincy Jones. It is the seventh and final single released by Epic Records from his 1982 studio album Thriller. A 14-minute video showing Jackson in a Halloween-themed performance was first shown on December 2, 1983. The song was not released as a single until January 23, 1984.

"Thriller" has appeared on multiple greatest hits compilation albums from Jackson, including "HIStory" (1995), "Number Ones" (2003), "The Essential Michael Jackson" (2005) and "Michael Jackson's This Is It" (2009) and was remixed for the "Immortal" album in 2011. The song has a voice-over from actor Vincent Price.

In the song, sound effects such as a creaking door, thunder, feet walking on wooden planks, winds and howling dogs can be heard, and the lyrics contain frightening themes and elements. "Thriller" received positive reviews from critics and became Jackson's seventh top-ten single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart from the album, while reaching the top of the charts in France and Belgium and the top ten in many other countries.
