Swanage Railway 'LSWR WEEKEND' - 16/03/2014

The Swanage Railway has in its 35th Anniversary Year come up with a whole new Events List for 2014. The first of these held on March 15th-16th was titled 'LSWR WEEKEND' celebrating the London & South Western Railway with a two-train service operated by resident LSWR M7-class 0-4-4T No.30053 (working a two-coach branch-line train) & visiting LSWR T9-class 'Greyhound' 4-4-0 No.30120 from the Bodmin & Wenford Railway working the full-line stopping service with the trains passing chimney-first at Corfe Castle. This was the first time in 50 years that a T9-class has been seen at Corfe Castle as No.30120 (which used to be based at the railway) never ventured up that far as the line only ran to Harman's Cross. There was some concern that No.30120 wouldn't be running on Sunday 16th as it had failed with an injector problem on the 15th. Fortunately the problem had been fixed so it was running its trains, although SR 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34070 "Manston" was in 'Light-Steam' at Swanage just in case. Swanage Railway 'SPRING STEAM GALA' - 05/04/2014

The Swanage Railway held its first ever 'SPRING STEAM GALA' on the weekend of April 5th & 6th 2014. The event was to be the final appearance of LSWR T9-class 'Greyhound' 4-4-0 No.30120 before it returns to its home base at the Bodmin & Wenford Railway after a three week stay. A late addition to the line-up was SR U-class 2-6-0 No.31806, stopping in on its return to the Mid-Hants Railway from the West Somerset Railway. Also, SR 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34070 "Manston" returned to service after repairs to its big-end failure at the WSR gala the week before. The full locomotive line-up was as follows... - LSWR M7-class 0-4-4T No.30053. - LSWR T9-class 'Greyhound' 4-4-0 No.30120 (visiting from the Bodmin & Wenford Railway). - SR U-class 2-6-0 No.31806 (visiting from the Mid-Hants Railway). - SR rebuilt 'West Country'-class 4-6-2 No.34028 "Eddystone". - SR 'Battle of Britain'-class 4-6-2 No.34070 "Manston". The gala featured two main service trains along with a Branch-Line train consisting of two Bullied coaches & a luggage van plus there was also a Demonstration Goods Train in between some services. Swanage Railway hold an special gala of London & South Western Railway as part of their 35th Anniversary year, with visiting loco T9 Class no.30120 first time since the early 1990's and first T9 to visit Corfe Castle 50 years ago. Also running was M7 class no.30053 on branch line duties. The M7 was running once an service in the 50's hauling the recently restored bulleid coach and brake coach with non stop though Harmon's Cross and into the bay plaftorm at Swanage. As a pre Mid Hants Autumn Gala railway visit, my friend Gavin (MACRweb) and I, made a trip to the Swanage Railway, which on this day, included evening Ghost Trains from Swanage to Corfe Castle, to connect with the evening fireworks, run by the railway, at Corfe Castle itself. An incoming railtour also added interest today! The first day of the 'Steam Gala and Vintage Transport Rally' at the Swanage Railway on the 6th September 2013. The weather on the day was glorious after earlier fears of heavy rain. 6695 on the Swanage Railway - 18/01/14

My first outing of 2014 would be to the Swanage Railway, where 6695 would be running their one train service. I was testing out my new Manfrotto Tripod / Fluid Head, so the video is slightly jerky in places - still, practise makes perfect! The first shot shows 6695 climbing away from Corfe Castle past Corfe Common with the 12:40 Norden - Swanage. The next few shots are captured at Corfe Castle station, where 6695 arrives and then departs with the 14:00 Swanage - Norden. The final sequence shows 6695 departing Corfe Castle with the 14:40 Norden - Swanage. A few minutes after this shot, the heavens opened - although, I had packed everything away by that time!
