The Dutch and their Total Football were the toast of the finals, but the hosts lifted the trophy. Franz Beckenbauer - 1966, 1970, 1974 FIFA World Cup Classic Players
The 1974 FIFA World Cup in Germany was something extra-special for Beckenbauer and his team. From the first whistle, the home fans demanded nothing less than victory. The high expectations were something the captain was all too aware of: "When you are hosts, there is obviously twice the pressure, because everybody expects you to win". Collectively, Beckenbauer, Sepp Maier, Paul Breitner, Wolfgang Overath, Gerd Muller and the rest of the team withstood the pressure to make West Germany champions for the second time. After their 2-1 victory over the Netherlands, Beckenbauer became the first captain to lift the brand new FIFA World Cup trophy after Brazil had retained the Jules Rimet trophy in 1970. In 1977, Beckenbauer left Bayern Munich to join the New York Cosmos. By the time he left Munich he had won every major honour with "his" Bayern: the Intercontinental Cup, a hat-trick of UEFA European Cups, four German Championships and four German Cups. He hoped to find a new challenge in the USA's professional league, as well as earn a good living. From a sporting point of view, however, the switch stateside did not further his development: "Football-wise it was a non-starter" he said.- published: 08 Apr 2010

Johan Cruyff - 1974 FIFA World Cup Classic Players
The epitome of total football For one of the sport's greatest names, Cruyff's international career was relatively short. He made his debut for the Dutch national side against Hungary in September 1966 and went on to make 48 appearances for the Oranje before quitting in October 1977 aged 30. His last act on the international stage was to help the Netherlands qualify for the 1978 FIFA World Cup™ in Argentina, though by that stage he was only called up for the key fixtures. Cruyff's finest hour with the Netherlands came at the 1974 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany. The Dutch went into the tournament with few expectations; they had only just qualified and the players had given little indication that they were comfortable with the tactics of coach Rinus Michels, brought in late in the day to replace Frantisek Fadrhonc. The pieces of the puzzle fell into place just in time, however, and by the end of the first round, the Oranje were considered the tournament favourites. The Dutch dazzled with their total football, a style of play epitomised by Cruyff himself. Although he was fielded as centre-forward, he wandered all over the pitch, popping up wherever he could do most damage to opponents. His team-mates adapted themselves flexibly around his movements, regularly switching positions so that the tactical roles in the team were always filled but not always by the same person. This was a revolutionary concept, and it took the world by storm.- published: 10 Apr 2010

ALESSANDRO DEL PIERO aka Pinturrichio - JUVENTUS F.C. - 2012 [HD]
ALL I WAS, I AM AND I WILL BE
All I was before. All I am now. All I will be tomorrow. My roots explain everything about me. I've travelled around the world, but every time I have to tell my story, I start from there. I start with my parents, with my brother, with my house in San Vendemiano (just one 'm', I've seen it written wrong a lot of times!). I was born on the 9th of November in 1974, 'in Conegliano' as it is written on my identity card. Just because the hospital was in Conegliano, that is five kilometers far from Vendemiano. My house is still there, there is still our name on the entry phone. My Mum still lives there and this fact tells a lot about her. And about us. Some time ago I confided in the interview: " I'm proud of my father, who worked hard as an electrician and of my mother who would have scrubbed the floors almost in all houses in Conegliano. They are my examples to follow. I'm more than happy with the childhood I had, where the wishes were related to the possibility and never more than that." I believe that this phrase sums up the sense of joyful age: the values, the dimension of italian province, the respect to money and all the sacrificies made to earn that money, the honesty and peace.
That said, in the description of my early years the only thing missing , that is not just a little insignificant detail, is the ball. Doesn't matter how much I try, I really can't remember not even one of my friends who was so obsessed with football that couldn't do without it, couldn't think about anything else. May be just my brother Stefano was like me, but he was big, he played in the real teams and i often followed him with my father, enjoying the back seat of our 127. I was sure Stefano didn't have any danger to remain without ball. Instead I had to earn it: daily matches, that lasted hours and hours were followed by those in the evening, lit up by the lights my father installed to transform the little pitch into the well lightened stadium for our own Champions Cup, and, then, at home, alone, I continued playing with the tennis ball in the garage, until I was literally dragged to bed. But even there, under the blanket, I kept on thinking of the matches I'd play tomorrow. Deep down, that's why I dreamt to become a football player. To never be without a ball.

Spain Is The 2010 FIFA World Cup Champion
World Cup 2010 Winner : Spain Beats Netherlands – Spain, thanks to Andres Iniesta in extra time, won its first ever FIFA World Cup tournament, beating the Netherlands 1-0 after extra time in the final of the XIX edition, Sunday at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg.
Spain became the eighth country crowned, and at the same time the first European to win in a tournament outside the Old Continent. European champion two years ago, the Furia Roja hits a double Euro / World that only Germany has succeeded in that order in 1972/1974.
For the Netherlands, as in 1974 and 1978, this third attempt in the final was not the one, against the Spanish conquerors and victorious by the lowest score, as in the round of 16 (Portugal), quarters (Paraguay ) and semi-finals (Germany.)
Andres Iniesta, in overtime (116), scored for Spain by taking a half-volley cross coming from Fabregas, rewarding the constant domination of his team.
The match was tense and marred by mistakes (in the game 15 yellow cards and one red for Heitinga), the Oranje had their best chance one hour into the game. Sneijder superbly passed the ball to Robben who lost his encounter with Casillas (61).
But later the Spaniards finally imposed their game on a cross from Navas, a substitute, Villa missed an easy goal, stopped by Heitinga (70).
Sergio Ramos, excellent during the entire game, saw his header go over (77), before Robben almost got away with a new goal opportunity. Robben got a nice ball from Van Persie, he managed to beat Puyol, but Casillas was there to save the day (82.)
In the first half of the extra time, Roja had three good chances in five minutes. Fabregas, launched by Iniesta, lost the ball before Stekelenburg (95). Iniesta then lacked self control in a three against one situation. Navas then saw a deflected shot by van Bronkhorst shake out the side netting.
Iniesta then delivered his country in the 116th minute.
Lineups:
Netherlands: Maarten Stekelenburg, Gregory van der Wiel, John Heitinga, Joris Mathijsen, Giovanni van Bronckhorst (Edson Braafheid, 105), Mark van Bommel, Nigel de Jong (Rafael van der Vaart, 99), Dirk Kuyt (Eljero Elia, 71), Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie.
Spain: Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Carles Puyol, Gerard Pique, Joan Capdevila, Sergio Busquets, Xabi Alonso (Cesc Fabregas, 87), Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, Pedro Rodriguez (Jesus Navas, 60), David Villa (Fernando Torres, 106).

Did you know?
The most goals in world cup history were scored by Hungary in the 1954 tournament. West Germany came close by 25 in the same tournament while France had 23 goals in 1958. Brazil closely follows them with 22 goals in 1950 and 19 goals in 1970 tournaments.
Ronaldo is the top all time goal scorer with 15 goals in total, and this is a feat that has never been accomplished by any other player. This player played in 3 tournaments in 1998, 2002 and 2006. Gerd Muller played in the 1970 and 1974 tournaments and has a total of 14 goals under his belt.

Gerd Müller - 1970, 1974 FIFA World Cup Classic Players
German marksman It was only a matter of time before the prolific goal-getter came to the attention of national team coach Helmut Schon, and he duly made his senior international debut in 1966 in a 2-0 away win over Turkey. At the 1970 FIFA World Cup ™ in Mexico, he finished as the ten-goal top scorer and forged a formidable strike partnership with Uwe Seeler. Muller still emphasizes the significance of the competition today: "That tournament was even more important for me than 1974. We had an outstanding team then, even if many consider our 1972 European Championship team to be the best." Muller celebrated UEFA European Championship glory in 1972 after West Germany overcame the USSR in the final, before going on to score the incredible winning goal in the 1974 FIFA World Cup Final victory over the Netherlands. Der Bomber recalls: "The ball came into the area from Rainer Bonhof. I ran forward with two Dutch players then checked back because the pass was behind me. The ball jumped off my left foot, I turned a little and suddenly it was in," he beams, recreating the scene that unfolded in the 43rd minute in Munich's Olympiastadion.- published: 08 Apr 2010
