Millions of Syrians are trapped in hard to reach or besieged areas across Syria. On Thursday, 6 February, the parties to the conflict in Syria agreed under UN auspices to a three day \'humanitarian pause\' in the Old City of Homs in order to allow the evacuation of the critically ill, women and children and the delivery of aid supplies to some 2,500 people trapped in the city for the past one year and eight months. UN agencies, including the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), working alongside the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), met the evacuees, provided them with food and medical care.

Meanwhile, a prominent group of former U.S. security officials had warned the White House about intelligence reports from the war zone, indicating that radical rebel factions are in possession of chemical weapons. One of them - Pentagon veteran Michael Maloof - gave RT the details...

China and Taiwan held their first government-to-government talks since they split 65 years ago after a brutal civil war - a symbolic yet historic move between the former bitter rivals, AFP news agency reported.

Taiwan is likely to focus on reaping practical outcomes from the discussions, such as securing economic benefits or security assurances, while China has one eye on long-term integration of the island, analysts say.

Tuesday\'s meeting is the fruit of years of efforts to improve relations.

Russia has stressed that the UN probe concluding nerve gas was used in Syria last month, does not rule out rebel involvement in the atrocity. But the U.S, Britain and France have been quick to claim the report is enough to implicate the Assad government - READ MORE http://on.rt.com/sdkg09 The White House insists the rockets used in the attack, could only have belonged to loyalist forces. However, the UN findings state that the sarin-tipped warheads may have been improvised... and the report did not pinpoint the sites from where they were launched, at residential areas of Damascus. Meanwhile, a prominent group of former U.S. security officials had warned the White House about intelligence reports from the war zone, indicating that radical rebel factions are in possession of chemical weapons. Tuesday's meeting is the fruit of years of efforts to improve relations. Al Jazeera speaks with China analyst Andrew Leung in Hong Kong.

In the western world, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, or TPP, is most notorious for its role in the shooting of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl who has since become a global icon and campaigner for education. But Malala hasn't been the TTP's only victim. Far from it. Over the past seven years, tens of thousands of people are believed to have been killed in the name of the militant movement, with tens of thousands more injured. And this week the Pakistani government was supposed to be taking part in "last attempt" preliminary peace talks with the militant movement that has recruited hundreds of children as suicide bombers and wants to implement sharia throughout the Pakistani state.
