Ise Jingu Grand Shrine - Naiku "The Inner Shrine", Ise City
Ise Jingu Grand Shrine (伊勢神宮) is one of the most important and sacred Shinto Shrines in Japan. It is located in Ise City (伊勢市) of Mie Prefecture. In fact there are two parts of this shrine, one is called "Naiku" or the inner shrine (内宮), second is the "Geku", or the outer shrine (外宮). This video depicts the Naiku or the inner shrine and the main worshiped deity in this shrine is Amaterasu-Omikami or the Sun Goddess. The main worshipped area is out of bounds for cameras, so this video goes only up to the outer areas of the Shrine's main worship hall.- published: 01 Jan 2014

Rainer Schlegelmilch freezes the speed of Grand Prix racing since 1962...
„Just drop by and bring your camera“. The voice booms out of the telephone. On the other end of the line it’s Rainer Schlegelmilch. We didn’t expect it to be that easy to get an appointment with one of Formula 1’s legendary photographers. For 48 years Schlegelmilch has followed the Grand Prix Circus around the globe, longer than anyone else. He started out with black and white film. Today it’s a digital camera and a Macbook.
Much has changed since Jimmy Clark was racing. Natural racetracks have been replaced by architect-designed, sterile courses. Pits have morphed into surgical operation rooms. Charismatic owners have been replaced by corporate representatives of the auto industry. Drivers have retired or are now TV-commentators. Many have come and gone. But he’s still here. His life, that’s over 500 Grand Prix, thousands of memories and countless photos. Today Schlegelmilch uses them to compose impressive visual travels through time. Collages that show the radical transformation of the Formula 1 experience.
The Chequered-Flag design of the floor tiles and the high ceilings seem chaotic. Shelves full of files. From A for Andretti to Z for Zanardi. A few computers - filled to the brink with five decades of motor sport. A huge scanner. A cross-trainer. A fridge – covered with various race stickers – that serves as a safe for the time- freezing camera equipment. Many pictures of Senna, Stewart and Regazzoni on the walls and in the drawers. For those interested in ice skating or horse riding the office might look a little strange but not too different. But for F1 enthusiasts this Jugend-Style villa is a kind of temple. And the Schlegemilch archive is the shrine. You could spend days reliving the golden era of Grand Prix racing. Just like Rainer Schlegelmilch sometimes does. Just like today. Just for us. He starts right at the beginning. He reminds us of the year 1962 and how a coincidence helped make him a racing photographer.

NPR Music Field Recordings: Amadou & Mariam
There's not a lot in New York City that looks much like Bamako, the capital city of Mali, but there are pockets uptown where a West African might feel a little closer to home. With increasing numbers of immigrants to Harlem from countries like Mali, Senegal, Guinea, Gambia and beyond, jewelry shops sell the beautiful, bright gold twisted hoop earrings traditionally worn by Fulani women; men stride along the street wearing the elegant, flowing robes called grands boubous; and restaurants sell bissap, the sweet cold drink made from hibiscus flowers that's beloved across the region.
One major gathering point for Africans and non-Africans alike in this neighborhood is The Shrine, a nightclub and restaurant whose clout belies its small size. So when Malian breakout superstars Amadou and Mariam happened to find themselves with an extra day in New York recently, we invited them up to The Shrine to sing a quick, unplugged set.
As it happens, we discovered that The Shrine was a familiar locale for this husband-and-wife team: They had just shot a video there earlier in the week. (Great minds think alike, we suppose.) But the intimate setting proved to be the perfect place for a stripped-down performance of the song "Wily Kataso," from the pair's new album, Folila. The album version features TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone, but here, it was just their two powerful voices, Amadou's blues-soaked guitar and an incredibly catchy melody that lit up The Shrine.

CINDY SHERMAN
The various personas animating this new body of work were created as shrines to nondescript, eccentric characters who might also be seen to denote sentries, guarding the entrance to some fabled land, casting ambiguous and disconcerting glances at the viewer.
The combined costumes, poses and facial expressions change dramatically from one figure to the next, enabling the viewer to observe the artist’s permutations of identity from a seated fragile middle-aged dame to an unconvincing medieval soldier. Each character poses against an incongruous backdrop – a landscape image printed in black and white – reminiscent of ‘toile’: a type of decorating pattern frequently used on home furnishings and wallpaper.
The Untitled (2008) series was characterised by a group of almost life-size ageing American socialites. In the photographic murals, the figures are enlarged even further to epic proportions, the grand scale serving to intensify the tension, vulnerability and uncertainty exuded by Sherman’s theatrical types. The athleticism of one figure is subtly undermined by the detail of Sherman’s performance; the pulled up sport socks & trainers, cropped blonde wig and colourful batons do not reveal the same pride or superiority implied by the character’s confident stance and haunting glare. The same black trainers reappear on another of the characters, implying that they are all mysteriously linked together. Indeed Sherman’s abandonment of make-up in favour of minor digital adjustments unintentionally results in the disquieting affect that each figure stems from the same ‘family’. Sherman’s decision to eschew make-up as the most effective means of accentuating or de-emphasising the features brings us back to her earlier works.

a brief report from Ise Jingu shrine on the morning of October 2, 2013 ----------- The climax of the Shikinensengu, the Sengyo ritual was carried out in Naiku on October 2nd, 2013. On this video, I'm showing you breifly what Naiku was like on the early morning of that day. ------------- The Sengyo ritual is a ritual of transferring the Goshintai Mirror from the old Goshoden to the new one. On and after Octobe 2nd, the news about this Sengyo ritual was on everyone's lips in Japan. The Sengyo ritual might be a bit mysterious and difficult for the most viewers of this video. But this simple ritual is very important event for all the Japanese. ------------ I believe understanding the essence of this ritual is to understand the Japanese view of life and death. I made some videos which would help you learn about the Shikinensengu, so I'd be very pleased if you watched those videos too.
