UTV Media (LSE: UTV; ISEQ: UTV) is a broadcasting and New Media company based in Belfast in Northern Ireland. It is a constituent of the FTSE SmallCap Index. UTV Media's main operation is the ITV franchise for Northern Ireland, and it is also the owner of UTV Radio, which operates the UK Independent National Radio station talkSPORT, along with 16 radio stations in the United Kingdom and 5 in the Republic of Ireland. UTV is available terrestrially to 98% of Northern Ireland's population, and is now available, through a number of platforms as well as via terrestrial overspill, to 70% of the Republic of Ireland's.

UTV Media was able to expand between 2004 and 2006, largely due to its investment in and purchase of radio stations. It has had a large increase in business turnover, which was up 46% on 2004; pre-tax profits rose by 12%, and employment rose by 500 people to more than double the figure in 2004. In 2006, total sales were £113.6m of which UTV Radio accounted for 54%, television 37% and 9% from New Media. 48% of operating profits were earned in the radio side of the business, with 47% derived from television and 5% from new media.

UTV (formerly Ulster Television) is a television network based in Northern Ireland, a constituent country of the United Kingdom. UTV is the ITV licensee for Northern Ireland and is operated by UTV Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of UTV Media plc.

The main transmitters which broadcast UTV's analogue and digital signals are based at Divis outside Belfast,Limavady in County Londonderry and Brougher Mountain in County Tyrone. Each transmitter has a series of relay stations.

Although UTV is licensed to broadcast in the Northern Ireland region, UTV's terrestrial broadcasts can be received in parts of the Republic of Ireland (mainly in the Northern and Midland areas), South West Scotland, the Isle of Man, North Wales and North West England.

In 2012, UTV will cease broadcasting on the analogue transmitter network. UTV is the last of the ITV regions to have its analogue signals turned off. UTV's analogue broadcasts will cease on 24 October 2012.

The governing body of the Independent Television network, the Independent Television Authority, first advertised the franchise for Northern Ireland in September 1958. Two consortia applied for the franchise; one led by the Duke of Abercorn and supported by The Belfast Telegraph and The Northern Whig newspapers, the other led by the Earl of Antrim and supported by The News Letter and Sir Laurence Olivier. The ITA eventually persuaded both applicants to merge their bids to obtain the new franchise, on the provision that a greater stake of investment in the station was offered to Catholic sources.

Ronnie Screwvala (Gujarati: રોન્નીએ સ્ચ્રેવ્વાલા; born 8 June 1956, Bombay) is an Indian film producer and CEO and founder chairman of 'UTV Group' (UTV Software Communications, UTVi, and UTV Motion Pictures) which recently partnered with Walt Disney, Fox Searchlight, Sony and Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment production company, expanding its global reach.

In September 2008, he was named on Esquire's List of the 75 Most Influential People of the 21st Century. In 2009 on the Time 100 (annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world) compiled by Time magazine, he ranked at 78.

Ronnie (Rohinton) Screwvala started his own career by launching the first organised cable TV venture in Mumbai, in June 1981. The network initially provided three hours of video channel service featuring movies broadcast via cable to homes in the Maker Towers in the posh Cuffe Parade, Mumbai at a monthly rate of Rs 200. Within a few years the network had subscribed thousands of households in the area. With the success of his cable network, he started producing advertisements, making films, and selling airtime on India's national network, Doordarshan (DD), which paved the way for production of TV serials. Screwvala produced the first of India's daily soap operas in 1994 and eventually moved into films, animations and interactive programs (games). Two of the more famous television serials to his credit are Lifeline and Shanti.
