Fly Geyser
The geyser was created accidentally in 1964, after a geothermal power company drilled a test well at the site. While the groundwater in the region turned out not to be sufficiently hot to be tapped for geothermal power, it did have a temperature of more than 200 degrees.

David Jamison Shares Fly Geyser
David Jamison has been taking people to a place like no other in the world. Jamison says that he is worried about its future mainly for "greedy" reasons, he still wants to be able to take people out here. It has grabbed hold of him. But he is anything but greedy. He volunteers to take people out here every chance he gets so that people who take the time to find him, make arrangements and the long journey can experience Fly Geyser. Thank you David Jamison.

Fly Geyser
Short video of a trip to the Fly Geyser in Gerlach Nevada with my friends Zach Green and Doug Kohn. The geyser has formed over the last hundred years around a drill bit that was left in the ground when a hot water aquifer was punctured during the drilling of a well. We left Truckee, CA at around sunset and stayed at Brunos Motel in Gerlach so we could get out to the geyser by sunrise. Afterwords we headed back home through the Smoke Creek Desert and around Pyramid Lake. Enjoy!

Burning Man Negotiating to Buy Fly Geyser
A source tipped me off to this story before any other media. On my own time I researched, wrote, shot and produced this story a week before the exclusive negotiations to buy Fly Geyser were set to expire. It was an amazing place and while I have had no training in shooting and editing video, it is stories like these that make being a journalist worth while.

Fly Ranch Geyser in Washoe County, Nevada
Fly Geyser, aka Fly Ranch Geyser is a small geothermal geyser that is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) north of Gerlach, in Washoe County, Nevada. The Geyser is located in Hualapai Flat, about 1/3 of a mile from State Route 34. It is large enough to be seen from the road. Fly Geyser is located on the private Fly Ranch and is accessible only by a small private dirt road. The ranch is currently owned by Todd Jaksick. There is a high fence and a locked gate topped with spikes to exclude trespassers. Despite the booby traps, some people jump the fence to get a better look. Several organizations have tried to purchase the land for conservation and make it open to the public, but have been denied. Fly Geyser is a little-known tourist attraction, even to Nevada residents. It is located near the edge of Fly Reservoir and is only about 5 feet (1.5 m) high, (12 feet (3.7 m) counting the mound on which it sits). The Geyser is not an entirely natural phenomenon, and was accidentally created in 1916 during well drilling. The well functioned normally for several decades, but in the 1960s geothermally heated water found a weak spot in the wall and began escaping to the surface. Dissolved minerals started rising and accumulating, creating the mount on which the geyser sits, which continues growing. Today water is constantly spewing, reaching 5 feet (1.5 m) in the air. The geyser contains several terraces discharging water into 30 to 40 pools over an area of 30 hectares (74 acres ...

Fly Geyser, Nevada's Hidden Secret
One of Nevada's great hidden secrets, Fly Geyser was accidently created in 1916 while drilling a well! For decades, the land remained quiet, but then suddenly in 1960, the water found a weak spot, and all the water and minerals started coming up to the surface, creating this magnificant geyser you see today! The geyser is only 12 ft high, but is constantly growing and getting larger every year! The water is constantly shooting out, reaching only about 5 feet! This magnificant wonder of nature is located approximately 20 miles north of Gurlach, just off Highway 34, on Fly Ranch, which is private property! The original owner used to take people out to see the geyser, but now there is a new caretaker, and I don't know if he does or not! Several orginizations have tried to make this public land, but have all been denied, so people just jump the fence to see this magnificent wonder of nature! If you would like more information about the geyser, look it up on Wikipedia, or leave me a question in the comment box, and I'll answer it as soon as I can! I tried to add narrations to the video, but it wasn't working so good, so I just left them out!
