Kensal Green Cemetery ,,Magnificent Seven'' Krystyna Janda
The General Cemetery of All Souls, Kensal Green, is one of England's oldest and most beautiful public burial grounds, and certainly its most prestigious. One of the world's first garden cemeteries, and doyen of London's Magnificent Seven, Kensal Green received its first funeral in January 1833, and still conducts burials and cremations daily. The cemetery was innovative in having most of the site consecrated by the Church of England, but reserving the eastern spur for Dissenters and others to practise their own rites. Today, people of many faiths and denominations are buried throughout the cemetery. Uniquely among British cemeteries, Kensal Green has been managed by the same private joint-stock company since its inception: the General Cemetery Company (est. 1830) still has its offices by the Main Gate. The cemetery now covers some 72 acres (29 hectares) between the Grand Union Canal and Harrow Road in west London, and is open to visitors every day of the year. From the funeral of HRH The Duke of Sussex in 1843 to that of his nephew HRH The Duke of Cambridge in 1904, Kensal Green was the most fashionable cemetery in England. Its notable personalities include some 650 members of the titled nobility and over 550 individuals noted in the Dictionary of National Biography. Kensal Green is the resting place of the engineers Sir Marc Isambard Brunel and Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the mathematician Charles Babbage, and the novelists Wilkie Collins, Anthony Trollope and William Makepeace Thackeray; Lord Byron's wife, Oscar Wilde's mother, Charles Dickens' in-laws and Winston Churchill's daughter; a cross-dressing Army doctor and the surgeon who attended Nelson at Trafalgar; the creator of Pears' Soap, and the original WH Smith; the funambulist Blondin and the Savoyard George Grossmith; the first man to cross Australia from south to north, and the last man to fight a duel in England; the Duke's nephew who ruined the richest heiress of the day, and the English adventuress who became a French baronne disgraced by the accusation of murder.- published: 09 Dec 2013

Vinyl Replay
Vinyl Replay has been selected for the Streaming Festival Sixth Edition and will be screened online from 1 to 18 December, 2011. www.streamingfestival.com/program/2011/mods.php
It was exhibited as part of Photomonth, East London's International Photography Festival from 1-31 October at Rough Trade East.
Vinyl Replay consists of 163 photos taken during 2008-10. In the studio and on location, long photographic exposures, primarily with a hand-held camera, were used as a means of reinterpreting my dusty and scratched record collection. These records range from 1966 when the Beach Boys filtered across my mum's amniotic sac, up until my last days of vinyl collecting from Mole Jazz in the early 1990's.
I want to reinvoke the space and time of this analogue existence: early days of collective family listening; rushing down to Woolworth's with pocket money to buy singles; the flowering of sexual identity in post-punk teens (matters you couldn't really share with your family); and the outrage and civil disobedience against Thatcherite Britain.
Singles and long play records:
J. S. Bach (Hotter), Beethoven (Myra Hess)
Chopin (Barenboim), Maria Callas (Karajan)
Frank Sinatra, Marvin Gaye
Beach Boys, Doors, Faron Young, Bee Gees
Lou Reed, Joy Division, Dead Can Dance
Stevie Wonder, Bhundu Boys
Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five
Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Kenny Wheeler
Locations used:
Kensal Green Cemetery, St Matthew's Church Bayswater,
Houses of Parliament, Royal Opera House,
Richmond Park, Hyde Park, Southsea
Southbank Centre, Key Club
Exhibited:
London Independent Photography Group show
St. Matthews Church, London 2008
Westminster Open
SW1 Gallery, London 2008
Many thanks to ECM, HMV Group PLC, Peter Saville Studio and New Order for their support of this project.
Constantine Gras is a multi-media artist who is working on an environmental project for the Cultural Olympiad and made his debut short film, Flood Light, as a commission for the InTRANSIT 2010 festival.

Name of the work: "Lady Godiva"
Author: John Thomas
Location: Maidstone Museum & Bentlif Art Gallery is in Maidstone, Kent, England.
John Thomas was born in Chalford, Gloucestershire on England.
Was a British sculptor and architect, who worked on Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Westminster.
Apprenticed to a stonemason after being left an orphan, he later went to Birmingham where his elder brother William Thomas (architect) was an architect.
He was noticed by Charles Barry who immediately employed John Thomas as a stone and wood carver on Birmingham Grammar School (now demolished), his first collaboration with Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin.
Barry later appointed him the Supervising Carver on the Palace of Westminster in London, on which he is responsible for all the figures of English kings and queens.
His work 'Charity' was shown at the Great Exhibition of 1851, and then adapted to form a memorial in Christ Church, Chalford, to his brother Richard who died in 1852.
His final work was the colossal statue of William Shakespeare displayed at the 1862 International Exhibition.
A dispute over its placement hastened his death in April 1862, and he was buried in Kensal Green Cemetery, London.
His massive (30 ft. high and 40 ft (12 m). in diameter) majolica fountain, also on display at the 1862 exhibition, was placed outside the V&A; Museum of Childhood until it was demolished in 1926.
LADY GODIVA
Godiva, often referred to as Lady Godiva, was an 11th-century Anglo-Saxon noblewoman who, according to legend, rode naked through the streets of Coventry in order to gain a remission of the oppressive taxation imposed by her husband on his tenants.
According to the popular story, Lady Godiva took pity on the people of Coventry, who were suffering grievously under her husband's oppressive taxation. Lady Godiva appealed again and again to her husband, who obstinately refused to remit the tolls. At last, weary of her entreaties, he said he would grant her request if she would strip naked and ride through the streets of the town. Lady Godiva took him at his word and, after issuing a proclamation that all persons should stay indoors and shut their windows, she rode through the town, clothed only in her long hair.
Just one person in the town, a tailor ever afterwards known as Peeping Tom, disobeyed her proclamation in one of the most famous instances of voyeurism. In the story, Tom bores a hole in his shutters so that he might see Godiva pass, and is struck blind.
In the end, Godiva's husband keeps his word and abolishes the onerous taxes.
