Raymond
Raymond is a male given name. It was borrowed into English from French (older French spellings were Reimund and Raimund, whereas the modern English and French spellings are identical). It originated as the Germanic Raginmund or Reginmund. "Ragin" (Old German) and "regin" (Gothic) meant "counsel." The Old High German "mund" originally meant "hand," but came to mean "protection." This etymology suggests that the name originated in the Early Middle Ages, possibly from Latin; meaning "King of the World".
Despite the German and French origins of the English name, some of its early uses in English documents appear in Latinized form. As a surname, its first recorded appearance in Britain appeared in 1086, during the reign of William the Conqueror, in the Domesday Book, with a reference to Giraldus Reimundus.
The most commonly used names for baby boys based on "ragin" in 2009 were, in descending order, Raymond, Ramiro, Rayner, Rein, Reingard, Reynard, and Reynold. Its many other variants include Raiment, Raimo, Raimond, Raimondi, Raimondo, Raimund, Raimundo, Ramon, Ramón, Ramond, Ramondelli, Ramondenc, Ramondi, Ramondini, Ramondino, Ramondo, Ramondou, Ramonenc, Ramonic, Ramundi, Rayment, Raymonenc, Raymonencq, Raymont, Raymund, Redmond, Redmonds, Reim, Reimund, Reinmund, Rémon, Rémond, Remondeau, Remondon, Rémont, Reymond, Rimondi, and Rimondini.

From the iconic four bars symbols, to the many coveted and collected gig flyers, singles, and band t-shirts, all depicting the distinctive Indian ink drawn image and text by artist Raymond Pettibon. We start off in Los Angeles talking to two founding members singer Keith Morris, and bass player Chuck Dukowski, about what the scene was like in 1976 - setting the stage for the band's formation, as well as the bands name, and the creation of the iconic four bars symbol. Raymond Pettibon talks with us from his New York art studio. Back in LA we meet with Flea, from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, about how the art, the music, and that early LA scene impacted his own life and career. To wrap it all up we sit and talk at length, with Henry Rollins, at MOCA Grand Ave in Los Angeles, about all of the above and more.

Lise Vogel: Marxism and the Oppression of Women
"In this lecture I will talk about my book Marxism and the Oppression of Women: Toward a Unitary Theory, first published in 1983, and then reissued in 2013 in the revised form. The original book was conceived as an intervention into heated discussions among socialist feminists of the time. There were two opposing theoretical approaches dealing with the oppression of women: the first one, dubbed a “dual systems theory“, popular among socialist feminists, advocated for the perception of gender and class as distinctive (or at least autonomous) systems. The second, which I named “social reproduction theory“, tried to place female oppression more directly within the Marxist understanding of the capital functioning.
By the time the book Marxism and the Oppression of Women was published, the majority of social movements from the previous decades were in a state of decline. The feminist movement persisted, but much through liberal-feminist appropriation, becoming more and more internalized and often co-opted. The efforts to unite socialism and feminism had never been completely abandoned, but they were reduced to an extremely small number of voices.
Thirty years after the original publishing, the reissue of the book Marxism and the Oppression of Women (2013) was published. Besides the original text, this version contains a new introduction, written by Sarah Ferguson and David McNally, as well as an additional article of mine, first published in 2000. Interestingly, it seems that its many new readers and interpreters have given precedence to the social reproduction theory, and not the dual systems perspective.
In my presentation, I will first deal with the historical, theoretical, political and personal context of the original book, and offer a review of the book's main arguments. Then I will look upon some of the messages that could be useful for the development of theory and practice which is at the same time both feminist and Marxist."
Lise Vogel, a veteran of the U.S. civil-rights and women’s-liberation movements of the 1960s, is Emerita Professor of Sociology at Rider University (NJ). Her book Marxism and the Oppression of Women: Toward a Unitary Theory first appeared in 1983. Thirty years later, in 2013, Brill published a new edition, and Haymarket Books issued it in paperback. The original book was translated into Turkish (1990) and Chinese (2009); Turkish and German translations of the new edition are currently underway. In an earlier career as an art historian, Vogel taught at Brown University and MIT, published The Column of Antoninus Pius (Harvard University Press, 1973), and many articles in the field. She also participated in the early development of feminist scholarship and teaching in both art history and women's history. She is currently writing a memoir.

Known as "The Father of American Wicca," Ray Buckland was responsible for introducing Wicca to the United States. He was the author of the first American book on the Old Religion written by a witch - WITCHCRAFT FROM THE INSIDE - and has since written over sixty others, including the classic BUCKLAND'S COMPLETE BOOK OF WITCHCRAFT and the three encyclopedias: THE WITCH BOOK, THE FORTUNETELLING BOOK and THE SPIRIT BOOK.
A prolific author, Raymond Buckland is currently working on his autobiography and three new Victorian mystery novels. Recently published is his Weiser's Field Guide to Ghosts, which has won the First Annual Occult Detective Award for Best Paranormal Release of 2010. Also from Weiser is Buckland's Book of Gypsy Magic. The new Solitary Seance (Llewellyn) is now available and Pendraig Publishing has produced Ray's Buckland's Domino Divination and reprinted his Buckland's Practical Color Magick. Pendraig Publishing also offers Ray's exciting new Victorian mystery-thriller that involves the Order of the Golden Dawn together with the Illuminati. It's called Golden Illuminati. This is available not only in book form but also on Amazon's Kindle. Today Ray lives on a small farm in north-central Ohio, with his wife Tara, a Chihuahua named Chico and a Chihuahua mix named Lupe'.

Should the US continue to pour its resources into the region, having fought two wars, both of which are seemingly intractable? Or, does pulling out of Iraq and then Afghanistan in short order signal the decline of American power and influence in the region that will fuel anti-American sentiments?
According to Professor Mark Katz withdrawing troops may, in the short term seem to signal a decline of American power and influence in the region and thus be a victory for America's enemies. Katz however argues that it would in fact put the US in a better position in the long run to overcome extremist groups in the region. Jeff Garlin has dedicated the filming of an entire season of Curb Your Enthusiasm to completely making over his lifestyle in two major ways--by lightening his physical and his ecological footprints. After many false starts, he believes that writing a book about the experiment is the only possible way to help him lose weight and go green.
The hardest part of the endeavor is overcoming his food addiction--especially when craft service has a constant buffet of everything delicious you could imagine on set. In addition to cutting calories, Jeff accidentally falls into a love affair with pilates, sweats with Richard Simmons, and twice visits the Pritikin Longevity Center, which he says is "rehab for people who eat too much pizza." Larry Davids rooting for him. Jerry Seinfelds plotting against him. And his wife is just plain annoyed by everything.
As far as going green, Jeff has always been a big recycler, but he has a lot to learn. For example, actor Ed Begley Jr. is the guy to call if you want to reduce your environmental impact. Jeff does, and it changes everything.
He hopes that being healthy and green becomes a big part of who he is--if not now, when?
