The coconut palm, Cocos nucifera, is a member of the family Arecaceae (palm family). It is the only accepted species in the genus Cocos. The term coconut can refer to the entire coconut palm, the seed, or the fruit, which is not a botanical nut. The spelling cocoanut is an archaic form of the word. The term is derived from 16th century Portuguese and Spanish cocos, meaning "grinning face", from the three small holes on the coconut shell that resemble human facial features.
Found across much of the tropic and subtropic area, the coconut is known for its great versatility as seen in the many domestic, commercial, and industrial uses of its different parts. Coconuts are part of the daily diet of many people. When young, the entire fruits are used as melons. When mature, only the seeds are used as nuts. Its endosperm is initially in its nuclear phase suspended within the coconut water. As development continues, cellular layers of endosperm deposit along the walls of the coconut, becoming the edible coconut "flesh". When dried, the coconut flesh is called copra. The oil and milk derived from it are commonly used in cooking and frying; coconut oil is also widely used in soaps and cosmetics. The clear liquid coconut water within is a refreshing drink and can be processed to create alcohol. The husks and leaves can be used as material to make a variety of products for furnishing and decorating. It also has cultural and religious significance in many societies that use it.
Mervyn Edward "Merv" Griffin, Jr. (July 6, 1925 – August 12, 2007) was an American television host, musician, actor, and media mogul. He began his career as a radio and big band singer who went on to appear in movies and on Broadway. From 1965 to 1986 Griffin hosted his own talk show, The Merv Griffin Show on Group W (Westinghouse) Broadcasting. Griffin created the game shows Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, Click, and Merv Griffin's Crosswords with his own "Merv Griffin Enterprises" television production company. During his life Griffin was considered an entertainment business magnate.
Griffin was born into an Irish-American family on July 6, 1925, in San Mateo, California, to Mervyn Edward Griffin, Sr., a stock broker, and Rita Elizabeth Griffin (née Robinson), a homemaker. Raised as a Roman Catholic, Griffin started singing in his church choir as a boy, and by his teens was earning extra money as a church organist. This is one of the reasons he got into show business early; he was considered a piano prodigy. He attended San Mateo High School, class of 1942, and continued to aid in financing the school.
Monty Python (sometimes known as The Pythons) was a British surreal comedy group who created Monty Python's Flying Circus, a British television comedy sketch show that first aired on the BBC on 5 October 1969. Forty-five episodes were made over four series. The Python phenomenon developed from the television series into something larger in scope and impact, spawning touring stage shows, films, numerous albums, several books and a stage musical as well as launching the members to individual stardom. The group's influence on comedy has been compared to The Beatles' influence on music.
The television series, broadcast by the BBC from 1969 to 1974, was conceived, written and performed by members Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Loosely structured as a sketch show, but with an innovative stream-of-consciousness approach (aided by Gilliam's animation), it pushed the boundaries of what was acceptable in style and content. A self-contained comedy team responsible for both writing and performing their work, the Pythons' creative control allowed them to experiment with form and content, discarding rules of television comedy. Their influence on British comedy has been apparent for years, while in North America it has coloured the work of cult performers from the early editions of Saturday Night Live through to more recent absurdist trends in television comedy. "Pythonesque" has entered the English lexicon as a result.
Harry Edward Nilsson III (June 15, 1941 – January 15, 1994) was an American singer-songwriter who achieved the peak of his commercial success in the early 1970s. On all but his earliest recordings he is credited as Nilsson. He is known for the hit singles "Everybody's Talkin'" (1969), "Without You" (1971), and "Coconut" (1972). Nilsson's career is also notable for the fact that he was one of the few major pop-rock recording artists of his era to achieve significant commercial success without ever performing major public concerts or undertaking regular tours.
He was awarded Grammys for two of his recordings; best male contemporary vocal in 1969 for "Everybody's Talkin'", the theme song to the Academy Award-winning movie Midnight Cowboy, and best male pop vocal in 1972 for "Without You."
Nilsson was born in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York, in 1941. His paternal grandparents were Swedish circus performers and dancers, especially known for their "aerial ballet" (which is the title of one of Nilsson's albums). His father, Harry Edward Nilsson, Jr., abandoned the family when young Harry was three. An autobiographical reference to this is found in the opening to Nilsson's song "1941":
Coconuts sitting in my hand
Remindin' me of my island man
And my island man sitting in his hut
Dreamin' about my coconuts
Coconuts floating in the sea
I remember you, I remember me
Coconuts dancing in the sand
And I'm in love again with my island man
Coconut milk is like a stream
That comes from the mountain pure and clean
And the man he comes to drink it up
Never tires of the taste of those coconuts
Coconuts floating in the sea
I remember you, I remember me
Coconuts dancing in the sand
And I'm in love again with my island man
Coconut flavor sweet and mild
Remindin' me of my island child
And my island child all grown up
Out in the carnival of life jugglin' coconuts
Coconuts floating in the sea
I remember you, I remember me
Coconuts dancing in the sand
(Belew/Hertzman)
Hello honey, how is every little thing?
sure I'll be glad to meet you at the beach at ten
I wanna be your brown-eyed handsome man
plant my feet in the sand
maybe you could be the Sunkist queen
in your cool Raybans
ooohweee, you and me babe
here comes another summer of love
and we're a fine pair of coconuts
Oil me up, buttercup
park your towel over here
with your things n' stuff
I'm gonna work on my major tan
I'm gonna get it perfect yet
you go ahead, hon, and jump in the lake
let me know if it's wet
ooohweee, you and me babe
here comes another summer of love
and we're a fine pair
Under the sun
where there's only one plan
build a condo in the sand
and maybe we'll be fried again, oh man
Oil me up now coconut
I just love to feel your hands
oil me up now coconut
I wanna be your man
ooohweee, you and me babe
here comes another summer of love
Climbing for coconuts
Musical shells
We never saw the smoke signal
We watched Amelia Earhart fly on by
And refused the talking dolphins that offered us a ride
We just beat each other up
And made constant love
You couldn't tell the difference
Best friends or?
We ambushed the doves
And made jewelry out of pearls
I was homecoming queen
I take it easy on a sunny day as I'm rolling down the street
I'm missing work like i've done for days but I'll get tan on my cheek
I've got no money I'm a bum in the sun, it fits my philosophy
Everybody improvise, Lifes a party in disguise
So let it go, let it go and take a chance
Big adventure calls, yeah and it's easy to handle it
All you need is big balls, coconuts baby
Big adventure calls, Hell yeah this shit is bananas
All you need is...
There aint a person that can tell me no,
I live exactly as I please
I got respect for every boy and girl
and none for authority
I don't practice what I preach
caus' I, I master being me
Ain't it great how life is grand
Every day is larger than jumbo
I like it jumbo baby
So let it go, let it go and take a chance.
Big adventure calls, and it's easy to handle it
All you need is big balls, coconuts baby
Big adventure calls, Hell yeah this shit is bananas
All you need is coconuts baby, coconuts!
Woah!
Aww yeah!
You gotta put a leesh on that elephant man
woah
oh yeah!
woah!
Ain't it great how life is grand
Every day is larger than jumbo
woah
I'm improvising man I got no time to do anything else
And take a chance
Big adventure calls, and it's easy to handle it
All you need is big balls, coconuts baby
Big adventure calls, Hell yeah this shit is bananas
All you need is...
Big adventure calls
All you need is big balls, coconuts baby
Big adventure calls
All you need is coconuts baby, coconuts!
Big adventure calls, hell yeah this shit is bananas

I've been waiting for a girl like you to come and save me
Give me a chance, throw me a glance, take this last dance, love and romance
This is the time to make you mine, heart on my sleeve for everyone to see
There is no escaping me
I try so hard to make you mine, but all I find is constant mistake
I know you need me now, don't you
Let this go waste, I can tell by the way you look at me
That you wanna see what we will be
And even though you refuse, you will lose
Sit back and tell me
What i'm supposed to do
This is a night that will seem like a nightmare
You come willing, lustful, and bare
I never thought that I'd live to see your heart
Without remorse and a conscience so sore
Stop! lets go
Take me away let me know what you want
I'm desperate, girl please don't you tease, don't you taunt
What must I say girl to get what I want
I need you on me, I'm the page, you're my font
Come and let me show you, what it is I can do
Baby, take my hand just you and me
I can be your fantasy
I try so hard to make you mine, but all I find is constant mistake
I know you need me now, don't you
Let this go waste, I can tell by the way you look at me
That you wanna see what we will be
And even though you refuse, you will lose
Sit back and tell me
What I'm supposed to do
I can tell that you're afraid
So just let me take control
This is the reason we were made
(Coconuts)
Girls'
Have you ever been out walking on the street
And someone tries to touch you
Like you're a piece of meat
Have you ever been out dancin' in a club
And somebody beside you
Tries to rub their body
Up on you and
You just want to say.hey
Get your hands off my Coconuts
'Cause I don't really like you that much
Keep your hands off my Coconuts
I don't know what gave you the idea that you could touch
Boys.
Have you ever been out surfing for the day
You try and do the pipeline
And get dumped by the wave
And later that night you party on the beach (ohh he hi he)
With all the pretty surfy girls oh yeah
You pick up good vibrations
Excitations
And then she turns to say.hey
Get your hands off my Coconuts
Cause I don't really like you that much
Keep your hands off my Coconuts
I don't know what gave you the idea that you could touch
Get your hands off my Coconuts
Cause I don't really like you that much
