Kawai K5000 is a mid 1990's additive synthesizer which means that it creates its sound by layering harmonics or multiples of a base frequency like 100-200-300 or 440-880-1320 and applying variable loudness to each harmonic (Overly simplified explanation). Inharmonics can be achieved by using a higher base frequency and dialing in wrong multiples. The first example is an uptempo chordal series of phrases using an approximation of a traditional synthesizer sound. I then program in select harmonics and loudness contour to three modules. I play them separately and then mixed. I also show the edit screen. The results are similar to the types of sounds also heard on contemporary FM based machines.
