If work in each family were raised to 2,000 hours per year-the equivalent of one adult working 40 hours per week throughout the year- nearly 75 percent of poor children would be lifted out of official poverty. Father absence is another major cause of child poverty. Nearly two-thirds of poor children reside in single-parent homes; each year, an additional 1.5 million children are born out of wedlock. If poor mothers married the fathers of their children, almost three-quarters would immediately be lifted out of poverty. Each year, the U.S. imports, through both legal and illegal immigration, hundreds of thousands of additional poor persons from abroad. As a result, one-quarter of all poor persons in the U.S. are now first-generation immigrants or the minor children of those immigrants. Roughly one in ten of the persons counted among the poor by the Census Bureau is either an illegal immigrant or the minor child of an illegal. In the late 1990s, the United States established a reasonable record in reducing child poverty. Successful anti-poverty policies were partially implemented in the welfare reform legislation of 1996, which replaced the old Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program with a new program called Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). In general, children born and raised outside marriage are seven times more likely to live in poverty than are children born and raised by married couples. "Religion has a big influence on giving patterns," said the Chronicle. "Regions of the country that are deeply religious are more generous than those that are not." http://www.ethicsdaily.com/republican-states-give-more-to-charity-than-democratic-states-cms-19923 -- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227). -- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood. -- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush. -- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average. -- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent. -- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition. Democrats represent a majority of the wealthiest congressional districts, and half of America's richest households live in states where both senators are Democrats. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/03/conservatives_more_liberal_giv.html http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2007/08/how-poor-are-americas-poor-examining-the-plague-of-poverty-in-america Stefan Molyneux's Social Media Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stefan.molyneux Twitter: https://twitter.com/stefanmolyneux Google+: https://www.google.com/+StefanMolyneux_Freedomain_Radio Linked In: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/stefan-molyneux/5/72a/703 Freedomain Radio Social Media Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Official.Freedomain.Radio Twitter: https://twitter.com/freedomainradio Google+: https://www.google.com/+FreedomainradioFDR LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/company/freedomain-radio Message Board: http://board.freedomainradio.com Meet-Up Groups: http://www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/ Blogspot: http://freedomain.blogspot.com/ iTunes Podcasts: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/freedomain-radio!-volume-6/id552010683- published: 09 Jan 2014

How Much Do Americans Earn Each Year? The Financial Status of U.S. Citizens (2013)
How Much Do Americans Earn Each Year? The Financial Status of U.S. Citizens (2013)
Household income is a measure commonly used by the United States government and private institutions. Each household is measured by the income of every resident over the age of 15. Income includes wages and salaries, unemployment insurance, disability payments, child support payments received, regular rental receipts, as well as any personal business, investment, or other kinds of income received routinely. While inflation-adjusted (real) household income had been increasing almost every year from 1945 to 1999, it has since been flat and even decreased recently. U.S. median household income fell from 51,144 in 2010 to 50,502 in 2011.[3] Extreme poverty in the United States, meaning households living on less than 2 per day before government benefits, doubled from 1996 to 1.5 million households in 2011, including 2.8 million children. The residents of the household do not have to be related to the head of the household for their earnings to be considered part of the households income.[5] As households tend to share a similar economic context, the use of household income remains among the most widely accepted measures of income. That the size of a household is not commonly taken into account in such measures may distort any analysis of fluctuations within or among the household income categories, and may render direct comparisons between quintiles difficult or even impossible.[6] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Househol... Personal income is an individuals total earnings from wages, investment interest, and other sources. In the United States the most widely cited personal income statistics are the Bureau of Economic Analysiss personal income and the Census Bureaus per capita money income. The two statistics spring from different traditions of measurement—personal income from national economic accounts and money income from household surveys. BEAs statistics relate personal income to measures of production, including GDP, and is considered an indicator of consumer spending. Censuss statistics provide detail on income distribution and demographics and are used to produce the nations official poverty statistics. Inflation-adjusted (real) per-capita disposable personal income rose steadily in the U.S. from 1945 to 2008, but has since remained generally level.[2][3] Income patterns are evident on the basis of age, sex, race and educational characteristics. In 2005 roughly half of all those with graduate degrees were among the nations top 15 of income earners. Among different demographics (sex, marital status, race, gender) for those over the age of 18, median personal income ranged from 3,317 for an unemployed, married Asian American female[4] to 55,935 for a full-time, year-round employed Asian American male.[5] According to the US Census men tended to have higher income than women while Asians and Whites earned more than African Americans and Hispanics. The overall median personal income for all individuals over the age of 18 was 24,062[6] (32,140 for those age 25 or above) in the year 2005.[7] The overall median income for all 155 million persons over the age of 15 who worked with earnings in 2005 was 28,567.[8] As a reference point, the minimum wage rate in 2009 was 7.25 per hour or 15,080 for the 2080 hours in a typical work year. The minimum wage is a little more than the poverty level for a single person unit and about 50 of the poverty level for a family of four (see Poverty in the United States). Annual wages of 30,160 45,240 75,400 150,800 and 1.5M correspond to 2, 3, 5, 10 and 100 times minimum wage respectively.[9] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal...- published: 03 Mar 2014
