Mount Isa

Situated in Queensland within the Gulf Country, Mount Isa is predominantly a mining town. When looking at the collective amount of the mineral production of lead, copper, zinc and silver, the town boats one of the world's most sufficient mines called. They also have smelting sites that are the top two largest in the nation and the stack from the lead smelter can be seen from all points of the town as well as 40km away from the city centre. The demographic of residents was once reported as being approximately five males for every one female. In August 2008, Mayor John Molony, made international headlines when he stated that the town was a great place for "not so attractive" women to live.

The Mount Isa Rodeo is held annually in August with their Mardi Gras street parade on the same weekend. It has been estimated that the population can often triple during this time.
