Other Applications - Organisms modified using the Codon Cypher system would be essentially immune to normal viruses because the discrepancy in genetic code would not allow the virus to produce their protein shell. - For modified organisms a failsafe device could be implemented by removing some of their natural defenses against viruses, and then developing a virus based on the altered genetic code that could easily destroy any modified organisms while leaving normal organisms unharmed. - If the Codon Cypher system could be applied to more complex organisms it could make any desired organisms also immune to viruses, potentially eradicating certain diseases that affect crops and livestock. - If such drastic modifications could be made to human cells, the system could be applied to certain kinds of T cells in the human immune system and made to replace normal T cells. Such T cells would be immune to HIV and other viruses, giving the virus no place to hide when exposed to antiretroviral drugs. - Genetically modified organisms could be made incompatible with normal organisms by applying the Codon Cypher system. Even if the functional modification was minor, the different genetic code would prevent any contamination or hybridization with natural species.
